Chicago Cubs (Dempster) at Chicago White Sox (Contreras) -115
The Chicago White Sox and Jose Contreras will have revenge on their minds as Interleague play against the Chicago Cubs continues this weekend at U.S. Cellular Field. The White Sox were pounded last weekend by the Cubs at Wrigley as they suffered a three-game sweep at the hands of the league’s best team. The worst pitching outing of the weekend was from Jose Contreras, who tossed just 3.1 innings while allowing a whopping 10 hits and nine earned runs. Contreras was visibly upset after the loss in which the Cubs scored nine runs in the fourth inning. "I’ve never had an inning like that in my career," Contreras was quoted as saying. The veteran right-hander has been very solid at U.S. Cellular Field this season with a 3.04 ERA, a WHIP of 0.99, and batters are only hitting .209 against him. I firmly expect a bounce back effort from him. The Cubs are slated to toss veteran Jason Marquis, though because of the injury to Carlos Zambrano, the rotation could change. I like the play regardless of who throws. The Cubs aren’t the only dominant home team with the White Sox currently at 24-11 at the Cell. And while playing at Wrigley has provided enough ESPN highlights to last a decade, the road hasn’t been as sweet for the North Siders (16-20, 4.3 runs per game). I expect a much better effort from Contreras and the Sox this weekend. Recommendation: White Sox
