Teddy Covers Top 120 College Football Teams Week Three

09.11.2008     12:00 AM     Teddy Covers     Printer Friendly

1)  Oklahoma: 109 points, nearly 1100 yards in a pair of woodshed whippings in their first two games.

2)  Florida: The Gators offense was stymied by Miami-FL, so the defense carried the team instead.

3)  Ohio State: The Buckeyes clearly were looking ahead to USC in last weeks’ sluggish affair.

4)  USC: Trojans have seven seniors starting on defense.  Five of them are projected NFL first rounders.

5)  Georgia: The Bulldogs travel to South Carolina having scored 20 or less in the last four meetings.

6)  Missouri: One additional offensive weapon for the Tigers?  Kicker Jeff Wolfert, nailing 50+ yard field goals.

7)  LSU: We won’t know if this offense is going to work in the SEC until next week at Auburn.

8)  Texas: Longhorns defense allowed more than 400 yards to UTEP; not a good sign.

9)  Oregon: The Ducks get a big bump up in my power ratings this week after two blowout wins.

10)  Texas Tech: This high flying offense hasn’t fully clicked yet in the first two weeks of action.

11)  Penn State: JoePa is suddenly a pointspread monster as a favorite: 10-3 ATS as double digit chalk.

12)  South Florida: Late game meltdown spoiled an otherwise dominating performance at UCF.

13)  Wisconsin: Wisky responded well to adversity vs. Marshall.  Down 14-0, they scored 51 straight.

14)  BYU: Cougars have dominated in conference L3 years, but struggled when stepping up in class.

15)  Kansas: Jayhawks defense hasn’t allowed a TD yet, but their offense can’t seem to run the football.

16)  Utah: When focused, this team is dominant, but they’ve had at least one bad half in both games.

17)  Arizona State: Another slow start, big finish for the Sun Devils.  Weak first quarter play again!

18)  West Virginia: The team that lost to East Carolina last week sure didn’t look like a Top 25 squad.

19)  Tennessee: Vols have had a week to work out their offensive kinks with new coordinator Clawson.

20)  Alabama: Nick Saban was not happy after ‘Bama got outgained 318-172 at home against Tulane.

21)  Arizona: Pointspread machine written all over them! Explosive O, solid D, modest expectations.

22)  California: Another PAC-10 powerhouse that came into the season poised to exceed expectations.

23)  East Carolina: My gut tells me they should be ranked higher. My strict power ratings say lower.

24)  TCU: This defense is downright scary, allowing less than 350 yards and only ten points thusfar.

25)  Auburn: Chris Todd has won the starting QB job, but his backs can’t seem to avoid losing fumbles.
