Be wary of betting the Phoenix Suns

11.18.2009     12:00 AM     ER Sports     Printer Friendly

Sell the Phoenix Suns – The Suns are off to a scintillating 10-2 start, but don’t expect the good times to continue for 82 games.  Yes, the Suns are a pretty good basketball team, but they are far from a great squad. Remember this was a club expected to win about 41 games this season. The Suns are all offense and no defense, while lighting up the scoreboard every night. In general, good value can be found betting against this type of basketball club. This is still a soft basketball team that’s short on rebounding and defense. Up and down this roster the Suns are filled with players that prefer the perimeter and open court. Again, that’s fine and they’ll win a lot of basketball games because they’re good at what they do but allowing little resistance around the basket and too many second and third opportunities is a lot to overcome for 82 games. The Suns do seem to have a better chemistry this season, while getting rid of Shaq in the off-season. General Manager Steve Kerr did a brutal job with this team, tearing them down when nothing was wrong. At least he’s kind of admitted his mistake, but as mentioned there’s still problems hovering around. Steve Nash is still a great NBA player, which can close games as well as just about anyone in the game, but this will be a bet against basketball team in my book. With their quick start out of the gate, there should be plenty of value against the Suns upcoming.
