CFL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Saskatchewan Roughriders at Ottawa Redblacks

Saskatchewan at Ottawa
Recommendation: Saskatchewan first half

The Saskatchewan Roughriders rode a strong defensive performance to a Week 1 victory as home dogs against the defending Grey Cup champions last week and will look to keep their momentum rolling into Ottawa as they take to the road for Week 2. Ottawa is the only team that didn’t play in Week 1 providing a unique handicap here with Saskatchewan having a game under their belt already while Ottawa will be opening up their regular season here. Saskatchewan QB Zach Collaros and the Riders offense is far from a finished product and they were lackluster for most of last week’s game. The team scored 27 points but one of the TD’s came on a Ricky Ray Pick Six and a couple other scoring drives were heavily aided by Toronto penalties on defense so the Saskatchewan offense is still a work in progress despite the scoring output in Week 1. The Saskatchewan defense was outstanding last week as they held the Argos to fewer than 300 total yards which is a great accomplishment for any CFL defense. Saskatchewan will play WR turned CB Duron Carter exclusively in their Read more

New Jersey's Monmouth Park will accept wagers starting Thursday

06.12.2018     10:45 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
So far, we've been impressed with the ease in which sports betting has been made available to the public. Delaware was first to the party and saw solid results. And as expected, New Jersey followed close behind; poised to start taking bets on Thursday morning. ESPN Chalk has the details on what customers can expect.

College Football Betting: Virginia Tech's offseason not going well

06.08.2018     10:01 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
We have our first offseason "oh shit" situation in college football. Last week, Virginia Tech lost two potential starting cornerbacks. Now it is being reported starting quarterback Josh Jackson may be suspended for academic issues. The Hokies, who ranked 13th in 2017 in total defense, were also hit hard by the draft including two first round linebackers. To make matters worse, Tech opens the season with a conference game at Florida State. South Point opened the game a pick 'em, CRIS opened FSU -5.5. Those sportsbooks choosing not to take the game off of the board have the Seminoles -7 home chalk.

Delaware sportsbooks have big opening day

06.07.2018     09:51 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
It was reported that Delaware's sportsbooks accepted $322K worth of wagers on Tuesday. That's not bad though we'd love to see the figures on a Thursday in late July when the MLB card is littered with -250 chalk.

"For us, it's really an enhancement of our tourism industry," Carney told ESPN on Tuesday. "It will attract a lot of visitors to our state, particularly at this time of year, during the summer, coming to our beautiful beaches south of here. They come here and stop at the casinos and do slot machine and table gaming. This will be another opportunity for them."

New Jersey's Golden Nugget may be left out of sports betting barrage

06.07.2018     09:20 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
New Jersey's Golden Nugget Casino may not be able to offer sports betting due its owner’s connection with the NBA. Billionaire Tilman Fertitta also owns the Houston Rockets which on the surface is an obvious conflict of interest. Las Vegas' Golden Nugget didn't accept any wagers on Rockets-Warriors series.

"When you own teams when wagering is taking place, other games could have an impact on how your team performs," Sweeney, D-Gloucester, told NJ Advance Media. "You're not supposed to have both sides."

"My bigger concern is: You'd be able to control both sides of the equation when you're making bets," he said. "Someone said, 'Just don't let them bet on their team.' Well, guess what? The outcome of a game could make a difference on who wins the conference. There are a whole lot of other bets that take place."

MLB Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Tampa Bay Rays at Seattle Mariners

Tampa Bay (Romo) +122 at Seattle (Leake) O/U 8
Recommendation: Tampa Bay

The betting markets are having a hard time pricing the Tampa Bay Rays correctly these days, now that manager Kevin Cash has gone to Sergio Romo as his ‘opener’. Romo will be making his fifth start for Tampa – the first four coming in a nine day span in May -- but his longest stint was 1.1 innings.

The Rays braintrust have decided that opening with a reliever who can get righties out is the way to go right now, but the betting markets have no clear path to follow in games where the ‘starter’ doesn’t enter the game until the second inning. That offers value for bettors who can accurately assess Tampa’s chances for winning – teams that think outside the box in MLB often offer overlays for savvy gamblers.

Romo is taking his new role very seriously: "It's an opportunity to help my team out in a different situation, in a different inning, but with the same concept. The concept in our job is to get outs, regardless of the inning. It's fun that it's the beginning and I'm all for it. If they think I help Read more

MLB Handicapper Free Betting Pick: New York Mets at Atlanta Braves

New York (Vargas) at Atlanta (Teheran)
Recommendation: Atlanta Team Total OVER 5

The Mets don't have many viable starting pitching options beyond Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard. They traded Matt Harvey, Steven Matz left his last start with a finger injury, Zack Wheeler's ERA is currently 5.40, rookie P.J. Conlon isn't ready to compete at this level, the aforementioned Syndergaard was just placed on the DL, and Robert Gsellman is clearly better off as a reliever. That leaves Seth Lugo, who is likely to start later this week and tonight's starter Jason Vargas. Last season, Vargas was clearly "fresh" after tossing only 55 innings for the Royals in 2015 and 2016 due to injury. He logged 179.2 IP last year and was serviceable with a 4.16 ERA. This season has been a disaster even when you account for some "unlucky" results. Vargas' K-rate is an excellent 9.3 and his BABIP (.424) and LOB rate (57.4%) suggest things should start to go his way moving forward. But there are plenty of signs indicating his path towards the "norm" won't be easy. Virtually every batted ball statistic (line drive, soft, and hard hit rates) are currently Read more

Atlantic City's Borgata ready to accept sports bets

05.23.2018     09:41 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Atlantic City's Borgata Casino (owned by MGM) has a sportsbook in place and is ready to accept wagers once the green light is given. There are already talks of a new $7 million sportsbook eventually being built as well. An issue that has popped up however is that MGM owns the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces which to outsiders looks like a conflict of interest. It's one of many instances in which a casino/sportsbook has financial ties to a professional sports team.

“As soon as regulatory approvals are in place, we will begin taking sports wagers,” Borgata President Marcus Glover said to the Associated Press. “Borgata is uniquely prepared to begin operations as the only Atlantic City casino with an existing racebook.”

MLB Handicapping: Understanding the profile for the best and worst teams to bet on

05.21.2018     11:38 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Finding the perfect MLB "betting profile" can be tricky. The best teams who post impressive run differentials and a top-tier statistics are almost always well accounted for in the betting markets. It's tough to support these teams with traditional moneyline bets when they are routinely laying north of -200. On the flip side, the worst teams flatout struggle to win. A 65-win team needs to be priced, on average, +150 in order just to break even. Below we broke down the best and worst teams from a profits perspective over the last five seasons. To no surprise, the most common ingredient is under- and over-achievement based on preseason expectations. For example, Arizona was lined at 77.5 wins last season and won 93 games. Meanwhile, San Francisco undershot its win total by 24 games, hence it's historic -37.8 units. Another factor, is "luck." In 2016, Texas won 95 games but "should" have been at or near .500 based on its miniscule +0.2 run differential. The markets never caved on the Rangers' soft statistical profile; they were on average a -106 favorite. In fact, if you combined both 2015 and 2016, Texas went 188-141 +58.9 units. Their pythagorean W-L during that span was 165-159 Read more

The Vegas Golden Knights are officially in the Stanley Cup Finals. They await the winner of the Washington-Tampa Bay series with the Capitals currently up 3-2 and -130 home chalk for tonight's Game 6. Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals is slated for Saturday. According to the Westgate SuperBook, should Washington win, the Golden Knights would be around -140 series favorites. If the Lightning win, they would be -150 series favorites. The real story is the damage the could be inflicted on Las Vegas sportsbooks should the Golden Knights with the Stanley Cup.
