Northern Illinois at Buffalo -15 O/U 155
Recommendation: Under

The Buffalo Bulls are off to a 4-0 start in MAC play; all four wins by double-digits. The first of the four was a resounding 104-94 victory over Toledo. The result and pace (80 possessions) seems to have "juiced" the Bulls totals a bit. Since the win over Toledo, Buffalo has played three straight opponents very similar to Northern Illinois. Against Ball State, Akron, and Miami-Ohio, the game scores were 146, 152, and 148; all of which went under the total. More importantly, the Bulls didn't allow more than 66 points. Northern Illinois played a handful of high scoring affairs during the non-conference but we've seen the Huskies return to the "norm" since MAC play began. NIU's four league games yielded four "unders" and games scores of 136, 146, 123, and 138. Buffalo serves as a big step up in class but NIU just hasn't shown much of a willingness if any to play up-tempo during Mark Montgomery's seven-year tenure. Also note that last year's meeting closed 144.5 and Buffalo won 65-45. We won't see a low score like that tonight but plenty of wiggle room to get us under the Read more

Buffalo at Miami-OH
Saturday, 11:30 am PT - ESPN3
CRIS Opener: Miami -2.5 O/U 47
CRIS Current: Miami -2.5 O/U 45
Recommendation: Buffalo

Two MAC squads currently dealing with multiple quarterback injuries as Buffalo heads to Miami-Ohio. The Bulls are down to their third-stringer, Kyle Vantrease, who was thrown into the fire during last week's 14-13 loss to Northern Illinois. Buffalo's offense didn't do much with Vantrease under center which was to be expected considering he's a true freshman. Last season, Miami started 0-6 but finished 6-0 thanks in large part to a switch at quarterback. Gus Ragland, who replaced Billy Bahl, finished the season with over 1,500 yards and a stellar 17-to-1 TD-to-INT ratio. Ragland was thus the starter heading into this season but went down with an injury two weeks ago vs. Bowling Green. The RedHawks had no choice but to go back to Bahl who looked lost in last week's embarrassing loss to bottom feeder Kent State. Bahl finished 12-of-29 and threw two interceptions. In the end you have the top two offenses in the MAC in terms of yards per Read more

Buffalo at Kent State -3 O/U 154
Recommendation: Kent State

Quietly, the Buffalo Bulls have represented the MAC in the last two NCAA Tournaments. Last year's team was at one point 14-12 and 7-6 in league play but won six out of its last eight games, including three in the MAC Tournament, only to lose to Miami in competitive fashion, 79-72, in the first round. This season hasn't gone nearly as smoothly as the Bulls enter tonight's game at Kent State with a 7-10 record and 1-3 mark in MAC play. Reports have surfaced that there is a negative vibe within the program and it showed last time out as Buffalo was hammered at home by Ball State, 92-77. Here's a snippet from a recap of the game.

After Saturday's second straight home loss, a 92-77 defeat to Ball State, Oats was questioning the mindset and toughness of virtually his entire squad. His team is in a crisis, and it was evident before the opening tip.

Perkins was benched for the first 10 minutes as punishment for his meltdown against Ohio. Oats benched senior Read more
