College Basketball Gambling Free Play: Temple Owls at Buffalo Bulls

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Temple -7.5 at Buffalo
Recommendation: Temple

My clients and I cashed a ticket fading the Buffalo Bulls in their loss to in-city rival Canisius last week. The Bulls have been woeful so far this season. Their lone DI win came against Evansville in the Purple Aces’ first game without injured star Colt Ryan. They suffered three very bad losses to the likes of Princeton and Western Illinois on their home floor and against a sub-par Yale squad on a neutral court.

The Bulls are averaging just 59 points per game despite facing some rather mediocre competition. Tonight they take a big step up in class against Temple who boast a very solid core group of players led by Khalif Wyatt (14.7 ppg) and Scootie Randall (21.7 ppg). They have inside and outside scoring balance that will really cause problems for Buffalo.

The Bulls are likely to have senior guard Tony Watson back in their lineup after he missed time with an ankle injury but his effectiveness Read more

College Football Betting Alert: Buffalo QB Zordich ruled out vs. Miami-Ohio

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Miami (OH) at Buffalo

Buffalo starting quarterback Alex Zordich (ribs) has been ruled out for Saturday's game against Miami-Ohio. Freshman Joe Licata will start in his place. Licata has played in four conference games, completing only 20-of-44 passes for 211 yards (4.8 ypa). Since 2010, Buffalo has just three wins over FBS competition. Prior to the announcement, the Bulls were 3.5-point home chalk.

"He was hurt," Quinn said. "We just feel he needs to relax a little bit. We need to get him healed up. He was hurt. That's why he came out of the game. I didn't pull him out of the game because of ineffective play or I wasn't happy with Alex Zordich. He's our quarterback. He's our starting quarterback. But he was thinking of the team, that he wasn't able to perform to the level he expects.

". . . so this week we're going to go Read more

Kent State at Buffalo -3.5 O/U 52.5

The Buffalo Bulls find themselves in the role of favorite for tonight's game against Kent State. It is a profile the program hasn't had much success with over the last four years (3-10-1 ATS vs. FBS, seven outright losses). CRIS opened the game Buffalo -2.5 and is now up to as high as -4 at various offshore sportsbooks.

The time has come for SEC newcomer Missouri to either prove or dis-prove the prevailing thought amongst college football experts that they will struggle versus a steady diet of SEC competition. No doubt the anticipation and emotions at Faurot Field will be overwhelming which could be one of many factors that determine this outcome.

For Georgia, prior suspensions at key positions are now combining with injuries to become a significant issue. Or are they? Georgia head coach Mark Richt has yet to confirm this week whether previously stated multi-game suspensions to star players ILB Alec Ogeltree and FS Baccari Rambo will be either upheld or lifted. Neither played last week due to violation of the Read more

South Carolina escaped with a 17-13 win at Vanderbilt last Thursday night, but took some hits in doing so. Starting quarterback Connor Shaw can barely lift his right arm and will miss 3-4 days of practice and possibly the East Carolina game this week. Starting guard Brandon Shell hurt his ankle and is in a walking boot, so he is also questionable as well. South Carolina had trouble protecting Shaw all night and the Commodores wound up outgaining the Gamecocks. The South Carolina coaches were not upset at how the Gamecocks played; they recognized that Vandy is a pretty good team and were happy to get out of Nashville with a win. Vandy is a road favorite at Northwestern this week.

Tennessee unveiled its new up-tempo offense against NC State and the results were impressive. The Vols ran 79 plays from scrimmage, the most since notching 82 in a quadruple overtime game against Kentucky in 2007. Tennessee gained 524 yards of offense in the35-21 win and quarterback Tyler Bray looked like a sure-fire NFL prospect. JC wide receiver transfer Cordarrelle Patterson showed some awesome speed and it certainly looks like Da’Rick Rogers, who was booted off the team last week, will Read more

Handicapper Rob Veno's College Football Cut List 10/1

09.30.2011     02:14 PM     Rob Veno     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Rob Veno

These were the final three plays left off of my card for tomorrow’s college football action.

Ball State-Oklahoma OVER 61 – Ball State’s secondary is banged up for this one which means Sooners quarterback Landry Jones and receivers Ryan Broyles and Kenny Stills could produce multiple sub-two minute touchdown drives. Ball State’s up-tempo offense should get to the 16-point mark here partially because OU figures to let off the pedal somewhat in the fourth quarter and partially because BSU sophomore quarterback Keith Wenning is playing so well lately.

Buffalo +28.5 – Sure the Neyland Stadium environment may affect Buffalo some but just can’t see UT posting a complete demolition here. The loss of star receiver Justin Hunter is significant and probably takes enough excess explosiveness out of the Tennessee tank to keep Buffalo under this number. Have to believe that Cincinnati head coach Butch Jones, whose team was just in this stadium three weeks ago, was leaned on for some advice by Buffalo head coach Jeff Quinn who was co-DC with Jones at Central Michigan in 2004 under Brian Read more

NCAAF Betting Notes: QB situation makes UConn sketchy road favorite

09.23.2011     10:28 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Connecticut -9 at Buffalo O/U 46

UConn goes on the road to face what looks to be an improving Buffalo squad. The Huskies are 1-2 SU and 0-3 ATS and should not be trusted in this price range considering their ongoing quarterback situation. Head coach Paul Pasqualoni remains married to his three quarterback system which has produced only 40.6% completions, two touchdowns and five interceptions. UConn won last year's meeting in Storrs, 45-21. The Bulls actually had more first downs and were outgained by only 35 yards but four interceptions, including two for pick sixes, gave them little chance.

"We're going to have the three quarterbacks ready again. My sense is we'll make a decision on exactly which way we go by the end of the week, but all three will be up, all three will be ready to play. I think all three are capable. Again Read more

Second half kick-off list

Third straight winning week for the Sportsmemo Crew with a solid 3-2 effort today. That ups this year's record to 13-6, 68% and our two-year mark to 56-35, 62%. Thanks again for following.

(2:27 PT) Brent Crow recommends Michigan State pk 2nd half.

(2:16 PT) Erin Rynning recommends UAB -7 2nd half.

(2:09 PT) Tim Trushel recommends North Carolina Over 23 2nd half.

(2:03 PT) Teddy Covers recommends Minnesota -1 2nd half.

(1:48 PT) Akron working on 3 points in 10 quarters this season. Four turnovers against Cincinnati...Bearcats up 35-0 and may call off dogs with short week Thursday game against NC State.

(1:42 PT) Georgia Tech offense with 2,025 yards in three games. 13.5 yards per play in 66-24 win over Kansas earlier today.

(1:33 PT) Someone tell Neuheisel that Kevin Prince isn't very good. Three picks, Longhorns up 21-0.

(1:29 PT) Florida Chris Rainey with his fifth career punt block. Gators close to blowing this one open. Up 10-0 and inside UT's 20.

(1:24 PT) Wyoming, Duke, Vanderbilt ML parlay = 27-1

(1:23 PT) Notre Dame already with two turnovers against Michigan State. Irish though up 14-3 after first quarter.

(1:05 PT) Sportsmemo Crew goes 3-0 ATS with early game 20*s. We have four still available for tonight from Marty, Crow and Lange (CFB) and Trushel, Sammy P (MLB). Check out the front page.

(12:54 PT) Nebraska rolls down and takes 7-0 lead over Washington but the Huskies storm right back with 38-yard TD pass. Is Cornhuskers defense any good this year?

(12:32 PT) In the battle of who can miss the most tackles, Auburn comes out the winner but Clemson takes the game, 38-24.

(12:22 PT) Another crazy finish. Bowling Green rallies from down two TDs but missed extra point with two seconds remaining. WOW! Wyoming now 3-0.

(12:20 PT) Iowa scored three unanswered TDs to beat Pitt. Vanderberg tosses for nearly Read more

Buffalo at Ball State -4.5 O/U 52
Recommendation: Over

Buffalo head coach Jeff Quinn took over the Bulls program last year after serving as the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bearcats and Brian Kelly. Remember that Bearcats offense? It was the epitome of quick hitting and up-tempo. Quinn unfortunately had a disaster of a time installing his scheme last year, or should I say the Bulls had a difficult time running the offense. The quarterback position was beyond brutal (think Carolina Panthers with Jimmy Clausen) as the Bulls averaged an awful 14.2 points per game. Much has changed with the Bulls since then including the transfer of former Bearcat quarterback Chazz Anderson. Anderson is talented and knows the offense. He's also a fifth-year senior who can help teach the offense to younger players. In Read more

NCAAF Betting Notes: Graham wants Pitt to average over 80 plays per game

08.11.2011     12:45 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Buffalo at Pittsburgh -29.5 O/U 52

We knew Pittsburgh was going to play at a faster pace under first-year head coach Todd Graham but the prediction out of camp is that the Panthers are going to be more than just "up-tempo". Graham was recently quoted as saying he wants the team to average as many as 82 offensive plays per game. To put the number in perspective, Pitt never averaged more than 67.5 under former head coach Dave Wannstedt. Oregon averaged 78.7 last year and Tulsa, who Graham served as head coach, checked in at 77.4.

This radical change in philosophy creates an interesting scenario for Week 1's opener against Buffalo. The Bulls wanted to play fast in head coach Jeff Quinn's first season but simply didn't Read more
