NFL Betting News: McAdoo out, Manning back, Giants taking money

12.08.2017     09:11 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
This has gotta be worth a few points, no? The New York Giants fired head coach Ben McAdoo -- that's a good thing. They also reinstated Eli Manning as the starting quarterback -- probably a good thing considering Geno Smith is the back up. And one could argue it's the G-Men's "Super Bowl" on Sunday with a home game against rival Dallas. The market says it's worth 2.5 points with the Cowboys bet down from -6 to -3.5 road chalk.

“It’s important to play,” Manning said during his weekly meeting with reporters. “That’s what I love to do. I love to play quarterback. I love playing quarterback for the New York Giants. That’s what I work on. Last week something different was asked of me. I tried to do to the best of my abilities helping Geno and being the backup. But if I knew, I’d want the opportunity to be the starting quarterback again.”

NFL Handicapper Betting Preview: Dallas Cowboys at Atlanta Falcons

Dallas at Atlanta
Sunday, 1:30 pm PT - FOX
CRIS Opener: Atlanta -3 O/U 50.5
CRIS Current: Atlanta -3 O/U 48.5
Recommendation: Dallas

I understand that Zeke Elliott is an impact running back.  I also understand that the Cowboys offensive line is mostly healthy now, and they’ve dominated for the better part of the last month.  Dak Prescott is on fire, leading the team to 28+ points in each of their last six ballgames and making good decisions with the football week after week – he’s thrown only 2 INT’s during that entire six week span.  And the trio of Alfred Morris, Rod Smith and Darren McFadden are more than capable of filling the void left by Elliott’s suspension.

The mainstream narrative is so predictable it’s not even funny.  I’ve seen so many ridiculous quotes suggesting Dak Prescott will need to throw 50 times (he’s thrown more than 40 passes only twice in his 24 career starts) or Dallas has Read more

NFL Gambling Alert: Dallas' Elliott will apparently play vs. Kansas City

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
If I'm an oddsmaker, I don't even both posting a line or total on a Dallas Cowboys game until an hour before kickoff. The reason, of course, is the ridiculous back-and-forth rulings on Ezekiel Elliott, who, despite being a running back, does impact both the pointspread and total.

NFL Gambling Alert: Sportsbooks scramble following Elliott suspension

With running back Ezekiel Elliott suspended for six games, sportsbooks have taken the Cowboys-Giants Week 1 matchup off of the board. Dallas opened -6.5 back in April but money slowly came in on New York as it sat -5.5/-5 for much of the summer.

NFL Preseason Gambling: Dallas Cowboys a short favorite over Arizona Cardinals

08.03.2017     07:13 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The NFL Preseason kicks off tonight with the annual Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio. The Arizona Cardinals opened -1 over the Dallas Cowboys with a total of 37. So far, we've seen both Cowboys (now -1/-1.5) and under money (now 35/34.5). Arizona has been vocal that no starters will see the field. Dallas is expected to take the same approach. Four of the last five Hall of Fame games have failed to top 30 points.

2010 - Dallas 16, Cincinnati 7
2011 - No game
2012 - New Orleans 17, Arizona 10
2013 - Dallas 24, Miami 20 (24-point 4th quarter)
2014 - NY Giants 17, Buffalo 13
2015 - Minnesota 14, Pittsburgh 3
2016 - No Game

NFL Handicapping: A look at this weekend's four Divisional Round matchups

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Atlanta’s offense was both visually and statistically (33.8 ppg and 415.8 ypg) dominant for much of the season. They play host to a Seattle defense that obviously has a strong pedigree, particularly in the secondary. But that dominant secondary has been exposed at times this year and was recently dealt a key injury with Pro Bowl safety Earl Thomas out. Detroit couldn’t take advantage of Thomas’ absence as it was clear Matthew Stafford was not 100 percent due to a dislocated finger. And the Lions’ offensive line was banged up and missing two starters. In the end, the Seahawks surrendered only 231 total yards. It will be a much more difficult task this weekend as Atlanta’s offense is in a far better position to successfully move the football. Matt Ryan (38 TDs, 7 INTs, 69.9% completion rate) has a host of skill position weapons and like we saw against Arizona and Green Bay, Seattle can be exposed through the air. There are questions about Atlanta’s defense which ranked in the bottom third of the league in a number of categories. After struggling to run the football for virtually the entire regular season, Thomas Rawls went for 161 yards against Read more

NFL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles

Dallas at Philadelphia
Sunday, 10 am PT - NBC
CRIS Opener:
Dallas -3.5 O/U 45
CRIS Current: Philadelphia -6.5 O/U 43.5
Recommendation: Philadelphia

I will be rooting against my free play this week because I have a large wager on Philadelphia Under 7 wins; a wager that I expect will push after the Eagles knock off the Cowboys on Sunday.  And with an 8-1 mark on my season win totals over the past two years, pushing with Philly is going to be frustrating.  So let’s at least make some $$ betting on the Eagles this week.

Make no mistake about it – this is a preseason game for the Dallas Cowboys.  Dallas is going to have their starters on the field early.  But by halftime, expect most of those starters to be on the bench, avoiding injury.  Tony Romo is expected to get his first playing time of the year behind center.  But we can also expect a Mark Sanchez sighting.

And every Cowboy with a hangnail is going to be sitting out as well. Don’t expect to see the likes of Ronald Leary or Tyson Smith on the offensive line.  CB Morris Claiborne Read more

NFL Gambling Alert: Cowboys say Romo will play vs. Eagles

12.30.2016     09:35 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The Dallas Cowboys are locked in as the No. 1 seed in the NFC which means Sunday's game at Philadelphia doesn't mean much; hence the 8.5-point line move towards the Eagles. According to reports, Dak Prescott will start but Tony Romo is expected to see the field for the first time this season.

"It's never bad to get reps in games, but again, that question is for someone other than me," Linehan said. "You could argue both reasons why you would or wouldn't, but we've got to go play the game. If you spend a bunch of time concerned about things that could happen negatively, you get consumed by that, but I think we do a good job and Coach Garrett does a great job of just focusing on getting ready to play and focusing on the right things, and that's what we're doing."

NFL Gambling Preview: Baltimore Ravens at Dallas Cowboys

Baltimore at Dallas
Sunday, 10 am PT - CBS
CRIS Opener:
Dallas -6.5 O/U 43.5
CRIS Current: Dallas -7 O/U 44
Recommendation: Baltimore

No team in the NFL is hotter than Dallas, winning and covering each and every game since their Week 1 home loss to the Giants. Over the last month, they’ve won tough road games at Green Bay and Pittsburgh. But at home, they were lucky to get past Philadelphia and even luckier to cover the spread in overtime; continuing a long term trend of struggles to cover as a home favorite throughout the Jason Garrett era.

The Cowboys left it all on the field with their big win over the Steelers last week, a wild game that went back and forth through the final minute. Up next? A huge divisional showdown against hated rival Washington on Thanksgiving Day; a short week ahead. In between? This non-conference affair against a Ravens team; a game they’ve got to win by more than a TD to cover the spread. For Dallas to overcome this flat spot, they’d need an opponent they can just steamroll, like they did to the Browns a few weeks back.

But the Ravens Read more
