NFL Gambling: Detroit's Stafford and Buffalo's Taylor remain questionable for Sunday

12.08.2017     09:00 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
As of Friday morning, there are two NFL games with no lines or totals. Detroit's game at Tampa Bay is off the board because Matthew Stafford (right hand) is questionable. Stafford hasn't missed a game since 2011. And Buffalo's Tyrod Taylor (knee) is questionable for the Bills' matchup vs. Indianapolis. Assuming both play, power ratings show Detroit-Tampa Bay to be around a pick 'em while Buffalo should come around -7.

NFL Gambling Update: With Luck out, Colts turn to Tolzien for Week 1

09.05.2017     11:37 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.

As expected, Andrew Luck is a no-go for Week 1's opener at the Los Angeles Rams. That means Scott Tolzien and his career 66.4 QB Rating will be under center. The Colts traded for New England's Jacoby Brissett which signals yet another red flag that Luck's shoulder is a mess. How much does Luck mean to the pointspread? The betting markets are saying about a touchdown as the Rams are currently -3.5 home chalk.

“That’s why we brought him here,’’ Chuck Pagano said of Brissett. “He’s no different than anybody else. He’s going to have an opportunity to compete.’’ However, he quickly added, “Scott is the starter. Again, he’s got to produce.

“Everybody’s got to produce.’’

NFL Betting News: It sure doesn't sound like Andrew Luck is ready for the regular season

08.29.2017     09:13 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
If you haven't been following the Andrew Luck saga, you should be. With each passing day it gets more and more obvious that Luck's shoulder is still not healed. Yet, here we have head coach Chuck Pagano acting like someone asked him to solve a riddle. Here's a great editorial that senses this whole thing is a scam. In the end, bettors had better get ready for Scott Tolzien or Stephen Morris.

"That's a great question," he said, pausing behind the microphone. "You guys are trying to find a way to get to the end result here. Almost got me."

"I'm not a bookie," he said. "I'm not an odds maker. So I'm not allowed to put numbers on things like that."

The Colts open the 2017 NFL season on Sept. 10 against the Los Angeles Rams. That’s 13 days from Monday, the day Chuck Pagano was professing to have not seen his

NFL Gambling News: Bettors should avoid the Minnesota Vikings

12.19.2016     12:01 PM     ICC     Printer Friendly

Last week, I looked at betting strategies for two AFC teams the remainder of the season. We pegged Kansas City as “bet against” and Pittsburgh “bet on” as both teams delivered with the Chiefs losing outright at home to Tennessee and the Steelers getting the win and cover at Cincinnati. This week we’ll use the same format but turn our attention to the NFC.

The Detroit Lions’ lead in the NFC North fell to just one game following their 17-6 loss at New York and Green Bay’s win at Chicago. New York’s defense is an elite-level unit but Detroit was able to move the football at times and actually outgained the Giants 324-300. Unfortunately for the Lions, they were on the wrong end of some bad bounces with a -2 turnover margin including a key fumble inside New York’s 5-yard line. I however came away impressed with the Lions’ defense as it held its eighth straight opponent to 20 points or less. Sunday’s somewhat misleading result may provide residual betting value moving forward. We’ve already seen this week’s opponent, Dallas, take early money with Detroit now +7.5 road underdogs after opening +7. Read more

NFL Gambling Preview: Chicago Bears at Indianapolis Colts

Chicago at Indianapolis
Sunday, 10 am PT - FOX
CRIS Opener:
Indianapolis -4 O/U 47.5
CRIS Current: Indianapolis -4.5 O/U 48
Recommendation: Chicago

It's a clash between a pair of 1-3 clubs trying to turn their respective seasons around the Indianapolis Colts play host to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. The Bears picked up their first win of the campaign last week with a 17-13 victory over Detroit.  Rookie running back Jordan Howard picked up 111 rushing yards and quarterback Brian Hoyer threw for 302 yards and a touchdown to give Chicago just it's second home win in the last two seasons. The Bears defense did a strong job of keeping the Lions up-tempo offense in check, yielding just 293 total yards and forcing two interceptions.

The Colts make the long 4,000-mile journey home from London after losing to division foe and previously winless Jacksonville, 30-27. The Jags outgained the Colts 5.1-3.9 ypp. And once again, Indy's offensive line was a key factor as Andrew Luck was sacked six times and the run game could only manage 94 yards on 25 carries (3.8 ypc). It extremely difficult to win and Read more

NFL Handicapping: Colts made choice to skip bye week following London trip

10.04.2016     09:29 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Interesting scheduling quirk as the reeling Indianapolis Colts will become the first NFL team to not have a bye week following a trip to London. The decision was based on wanting a bye week later in the season (Week 10).

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: Ranking all 32 NFL teams heading into Week 1

Submitted by Teddy Covers blog entry.
The NFL Preseason is in the rear view mirror, with Week 1 kicking off on Thursday as Carolina travels to Denver as -3 road favorites.  Here’s how I have all 32 teams ranked heading into the regular season.

1. Carolina Panthers  - Cam Newton and Carolina’s offense are poised to rank among the most potent attacks in the NFL.  Watch out for the Funchess/Benjamin WR duo!

2. Seattle Seahawks - Russell Wilson gave an MVP caliber performance in 2015, but his ability to repeat that effort could be stunted by the Seahawks offensive line woes.

3. Green Bay Packers - The Packers come out of camp with a full complement of healthy weapons for Aaron Rodgers, good news after Rodgers numbers took a big hit without Jordy Nelson last year.

4. Arizona Cardinals - Arizona returns just about every key player on both sides of the ball from a team that ranked among the NFL’s elite in 2015.

5. New England Patriots - If Tom Brady was at quarterback, this team would be ranked #1.  But with Jimmy Garappolo behind center, the Pats take a modest tumble in my rankings.

6. Kansas City Chiefs - Andy Reid’s Read more
