Alamo Bowl Betting Preview: Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Colorado Buffaloes

Oklahoma State vs. Colorado
Alamo Bowl - San Antonio
Thursday, 6 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Colorado -2.5 O/U 64
CRIS Current: Colorado -3 O/U 62.5
Recommendation: Oklahoma State

Let me start by giving Colorado credit, before I make the case for betting against the Buffs in the Alamo Bowl.  The Buffs had gone 11-38 SU over the previous four seasons heading into the 2016 campaign.  Their last bowl appearance came back in 2007 against Alabama, in Nick Saban’s first year on the job with the Crimson Tide. But head coach Mike MacIntyre – the architect of a significant program turnaround at San Jose State – did it again with the Buffs this season, guiding Colorado to a 10-3 record, both SU and ATS.  That 10-3 ATS mark was tied for the second best pointspread record in the country – for most of the season Colorado was an undervalued commodity.

That being said, no Colorado player has been to a bowl game before.  MacIntyre deserves serious ‘Coach of the Year’ consideration, but the biggest bowl game he’s coached at the collegiate level Read more

Russell Athletic Bowl Betting Preview: West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Miami Hurricanes

West Virginia vs. Miami (FL)
Russell Athletic Bowl - Orlando
Wednesday, 2:30 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Miami -1.5 O/U 56.5
CRIS Current: Miami -3 O/U 58.5
Recommendation: West Virginia

Four straight wins, four straight losses, followed by four straight wins is how the season went for the Miami Hurricanes. And the formula was simple: When the Canes won, they covered, and when they lost they didn't. Bettors are likely to focus on the last four contests that saw Miami dominate with wins by 19, 14, 20 and 23. The competition wasn't elite but beating NC State on the road 27-13 and easily dispatching Pittsburgh 51-28 again shows this was a quality football team. And most of Miami's losses were nothing to sneer with one score defeats at the hands of Notre Dame, North Carolina and Florida State. The only "bad" loss came at Virginia Tech on a short week. Statistically, Miami outgained ACC opponents by exactly a yard per play and held a healthy +8 turnover advantage.

West Virginia posted 10 wins and a 7-2 record in Big XII play. Like Miami, the Mountaineers don't do anything Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Pittsburgh Panthers at Oklahoma State Cowboys

Pittsburgh at Oklahoma State
Saturday, 12:30 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Oklahoma State -6.5 O/U 61.5
CRIS Current: Oklahoma State -6 O/U 59
Recommendation: Oklahoma State

Opposite game ending reactions for these teams last week as Pitt was in jubilant mood after defeating Penn State while Oklahoma State was in complete disbelief as a 27-24 victory celebration turned into an unbelievable 30-27 loss. Heading into this contest the most important question is which team will able to erase Saturday’s results and fully focus on their weekly preparation.

Pittsburgh placed extreme emphasis on last week’s game as head coach Pat Narduzzi drilled into his coaching staff and team that they were going to treat the Penn State game as a rivalry. The Panthers came out of the chute fired up and they were up 28-7 just over three minutes into the second quarter. From there, Penn State outscored Pitt 32-14 the rest of the way and had the ball in field goal range with a chance to tie but an interception sealed the deal.

Offensive balance has been problematic for the Panthers who have Read more

College Basketball Gambling: Oklahoma State remains short on bodies

03.04.2016     07:59 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Keep an eye out for the status of Oklahoma State's Jeffrey Carroll (illness) and Leyton Hammonds (finger). Both players missed Monday's game against Iowa State as the Cowboys managed only 50 points due to an ultra-depleted roster. OSU is currently +4.5 against Texas.

“We’re going to have five out there,” Ford said Wednesday. “Now, I don’t know which five at times, but whatever five we have out there, I expect them to play hard.”

“You’d be lying if you didn’t say it was frustrating at times, but you don’t let it get you down,” Ford said. “You don’t let it interfere, you’re trying to prepare with the guys who are playing. That’s kind of my mindset for the coaching staff and all the players.”

Sugar Bowl Betting Preview: Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Ole Miss Rebels

Sugar Bowl – New Orleans, LA
Ole Miss vs. Oklahoma State
Friday, January 1, 5:30 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Ole Miss -6.5 O/U 66
CRIS Current: Ole Miss -7 O/U 68
Recommendation: Ole Miss

The Ole Miss Rebels were a complete and utter no show in last year’s Peach Bowl as TCU rolled them up 42-3. Many of the quotes out of Oxford are of wanting to atone for such a brutal effort.

Hugh Freeze: “I didn’t like the way that last year went, obviously. I’m going to make sure our kids, every single day, hear that from me. And if they really want to be great, then we’ve got to compete in these types of games...I think we are playing at a high level offensively, and we can’t let this spell of being off [get to us]. We’ve got to attack it.” RB Jaylen Walton: “We've been preaching that the casinos and women are going to be here, New Orleans is going to be here 10 years from now, but this opportunity only comes once in a lifetime. We've been working hard and preaching every day that we do the right thing. Even if it's going out or staying in Read more

College Football Betting News: Baylor QB dealing with back issues

11.19.2015     07:32 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Baylor could be in a sticky situation for Saturday's game at Oklahoma State. Former backup and current starting quarterback Jarrett Stidham is dealing with a bruised back. He's likely to play but if not, the Bears' third stringer, Chris Johnson, would get the call. Johnson has spent parts of the season playing wide receiver. Saturday's game is currently lined at a pick 'em.

"Honestly, not as far along as what I'd like for him to be," Briles said. "We'll see in the next day or two."

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: Analyzing bye-less College Football teams

11.02.2015     10:16 AM     Teddy Covers     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Teddy Covers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Seventeen college football teams enter November without having had a single bye week since the start of the season and without a bye this coming week.  Those teams are Arizona, Ball State, Boston College, Colorado, UConn, Eastern Michigan, Florida International, Hawaii, Louisiana Tech, Miami-Ohio, Ole Miss, Nebraska, Penn State, Texas Tech, Western Kentucky, Wisconsin and Wyoming.  Two more teams, North Texas and UMass, haven’t had byes since Week 1; teams that started their seasons a week late, but haven’t had a break since.  Is there anything unique or different about these non-bye squads?  Read on to find out.

Five of the 17 teams listed above don’t have any bye weeks at all.  Florida International, Miami-Ohio, Hawaii (with their 13 game schedule!), Arizona and Colorado will finish the season without a break.  Note that none of those five are going to play in a conference championship game, and only two (Arizona and FIU) have any realistic shot to make a bowl game.  Bye-less teams don’t tend to be very successful.  Most importantly for our purposes, they also don’t tend to cover many pointspreads Read more

College Basketball Betting Free Play: West Virginia Mountaineers at Oklahoma State Cowboys

West Virginia at Oklahoma State -4 O/U 134.5
Recommendation: Under

Oklahoma State has been really consistent when it comes to pace this season regardless of opponent. In their last two games, against TCU and Iowa State,  there were 124 and 126 possessions respectively. That's very important when we consider how different both those squads are on the offensive end. When the Cowboys faced Big XII squads that play up-tempo (Iowa State, Kansas, Oklahoma) five of those six games went under the total. Those totals ranged from the mid-130’s to mid-140’s. No matter what the opposition, it’s hard to reach that mark when you prefer a slow pace, fail to average over a point per possession, and grade out as above average defensively. Statistically, West Virginia is the fastest team in the Big XII because they press and their games often feature an endless amount of free throws. But this is a different team on the road as three of their last four road games failed to top 130 (127, 124, 123, and 138 against Iowa State). Very important game for both sides, particularly Oklahoma State who desperately needs a victory after back-to-back losses. Read more

College Basketball Handicapping: Quick hitters on Saturday's games

01.16.2015     08:48 AM     Andrew Lange     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Andrew Lange

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Here are some quick hitters on this weekend's marquee college basketball matchups.

Utah at Arizona - After a home friendly schedule to start PAC-12 play, the Utes took care of business last night at Arizona State (76-59). Arizona rolled over an injury-riddled Colorado squad. The total for this one should come out somewhere in the mid-120's. It'll feature two of the top 10 defensive teams in the country in terms of efficiency. In the three other instances where they has happened this season we saw very limited scoring: Kentucky vs. Louisville (108 points), San Diego State vs. Utah (102 points), and Arizona vs. San Diego State (120 points).

Kansas at Iowa State - Would expect a lot of pace and scoring in this matchup based on last year's three meetings. The Jayhawks won both regular season meetings but the Cyclones got revenge in the Big XII Tournament. Those three contests averaged 152 possessions and 165 points. Oddsmakers have been adjusting high totals toward the under so expect this one to open around 146-147.

Ohio State at Iowa - The Hawkeyes finally got their offense going with 77 points last time Read more
