College Basketball Betting Free Play: Arkansas Razorbacks at Texas A&M Aggies

Arkansas at Texas A&M -5.5 O/U 146.5
Recommendation: Texas A&M

Have not been impressed at all with Arkansas through the first half of SEC play. The Razorbacks are 4-4 with two wins coming in overtime and the other two by a bucket and four points. In terms of efficiency, they are -0.07 which equates to -5 points in a 70 possession game. They enter tonight's game on a very fortunate three-game winning streak. They needed to shoot 11-for-22 from deep and 28-for-35 from the free throw line to get past a mediocre Ole Miss squad at home, 97-93. They limped past a very weak Georgia squad in double overtime. And then this past weekend, escaped with a 66-65 win over Oklahoma State in which the Cowboys had multiple point-blank looks in the closing seconds but couldn't convert. Meanwhile, Texas A&M looked like an SEC contender early on with dominating wins over West Virginia, Oklahoma State, Penn State, USC and a narrow 67-64 loss to Arizona. The Aggies got nailed with the injury bug and opened SEC play 0-5. The currently sit 2-6 with two of those six losses coming by a single point including a 69-68 loss at Kentucky. It's difficult Read more

College Basketball Betting Free Play: Oklahoma State Cowboys at Baylor Bears

Oklahoma State at Baylor -5 O/U 145
Recommendation: Under

Took a contrarian side to victory with the Free Play last week and will do it again here in this Big XII match-up. Subtraction of last season’s Head Coach Brad Underwood has not changed the Cowboys offensive style as they still play a high tempo brand of basketball under new HC Mike Boynton. Their average adjusted tempo has increased in Big XII play from 71 possessions to 74 based on KenPom numbers which is understandable since the league is loaded with up and down style teams. To their credit, OSU has remained an efficient offensive team despite significant personnel losses from last season but the overall number includes more than a half dozen non-conference defensive cupcakes. Games frequently unfold situationally due to styles and what’s interesting here about the Cowboys is how their brand of offense was stoned Saturday by slow tempo-defense oriented Texas. Despite a very respectable 44.8 FG% against the Longhorns who only allow an average of 42%, the game was reduced to a crawl and 65-64 final score.

For the last 3-4 years, Baylor has made a niche Read more

Camping World Betting Preview: Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys

Camping World Bowl - Orlando
Virginia Tech vs. Oklahoma State
Thursday, December 28, 2:15 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener: Oklahoma State -6.5 O/U 63
CRIS Current: Oklahoma State -5 O/U 62
Recommendation: Oklahoma State

There’s been a fair bit of buzz in the betting markets about Oklahoma State’s late season collapse, driving concerns about the Cowboys mentality as they face Virginia Tech in the Camping World Bowl. For a team that had Playoff aspirations, a December 28 bowl game may not push the appropriate motivational buttons for Mike Gundy’s squad.

That being said. Oklahoma State DIDN’T collapse down the stretch, winning two out of three after their loss to Oklahoma, including a solid road win at bowl bound Iowa State. They didn’t cover a pointspread in those three ballgames, but that certainly wasn’t unusual for a team that spent most of the season as an overvalued commodity, just 2-6-1 ATS following their 3-0 start.

The Cowboys strength, all season, was their dynamic passing game. Senior QB Mason Read more

Oklahoma State at Iowa State -3 O/U 162.5
Recommendation: Under

We're in the dog days of power conference play with many teams wrapping up the regular season this weekend. That of course means a lot of second meetings and plenty of familiarity. Iowa State and Oklahoma State last saw one another back in mid-January with the Cyclones winning a high scoring affair, 96-86 in Stillwater. While ISU hasn't changed its stripes much that same cannot be said for the Cowboys who completely overhauled their defensive philosophy. Rather than run up and down and press, OSU is playing a much more controlled brand of basketball. They've ditched the high-pressure defense and instead focused on containment. It's paid off in a big way as Oklahoma State has won 10 of 11 with seven of those games going under the total. This has also led to a slower pace with seven of those games failing to top 70 possessions. If tonight's game hovers around that 70-possession mark there's a good chance we can cash in on the under. Note that the first meeting closed 158.5 and that was with Oklahoma State playing crazy fast and next to no defense.

Alamo Bowl Betting Preview: Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Colorado Buffaloes

Oklahoma State vs. Colorado
Alamo Bowl - San Antonio
Thursday, 6 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Colorado -2.5 O/U 64
CRIS Current: Colorado -3 O/U 62.5
Recommendation: Oklahoma State

Let me start by giving Colorado credit, before I make the case for betting against the Buffs in the Alamo Bowl.  The Buffs had gone 11-38 SU over the previous four seasons heading into the 2016 campaign.  Their last bowl appearance came back in 2007 against Alabama, in Nick Saban’s first year on the job with the Crimson Tide. But head coach Mike MacIntyre – the architect of a significant program turnaround at San Jose State – did it again with the Buffs this season, guiding Colorado to a 10-3 record, both SU and ATS.  That 10-3 ATS mark was tied for the second best pointspread record in the country – for most of the season Colorado was an undervalued commodity.

That being said, no Colorado player has been to a bowl game before.  MacIntyre deserves serious ‘Coach of the Year’ consideration, but the biggest bowl game he’s coached at the collegiate level Read more

Russell Athletic Bowl Betting Preview: West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Miami Hurricanes

West Virginia vs. Miami (FL)
Russell Athletic Bowl - Orlando
Wednesday, 2:30 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Miami -1.5 O/U 56.5
CRIS Current: Miami -3 O/U 58.5
Recommendation: West Virginia

Four straight wins, four straight losses, followed by four straight wins is how the season went for the Miami Hurricanes. And the formula was simple: When the Canes won, they covered, and when they lost they didn't. Bettors are likely to focus on the last four contests that saw Miami dominate with wins by 19, 14, 20 and 23. The competition wasn't elite but beating NC State on the road 27-13 and easily dispatching Pittsburgh 51-28 again shows this was a quality football team. And most of Miami's losses were nothing to sneer with one score defeats at the hands of Notre Dame, North Carolina and Florida State. The only "bad" loss came at Virginia Tech on a short week. Statistically, Miami outgained ACC opponents by exactly a yard per play and held a healthy +8 turnover advantage.

West Virginia posted 10 wins and a 7-2 record in Big XII play. Like Miami, the Mountaineers don't do anything Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Pittsburgh Panthers at Oklahoma State Cowboys

Pittsburgh at Oklahoma State
Saturday, 12:30 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
Oklahoma State -6.5 O/U 61.5
CRIS Current: Oklahoma State -6 O/U 59
Recommendation: Oklahoma State

Opposite game ending reactions for these teams last week as Pitt was in jubilant mood after defeating Penn State while Oklahoma State was in complete disbelief as a 27-24 victory celebration turned into an unbelievable 30-27 loss. Heading into this contest the most important question is which team will able to erase Saturday’s results and fully focus on their weekly preparation.

Pittsburgh placed extreme emphasis on last week’s game as head coach Pat Narduzzi drilled into his coaching staff and team that they were going to treat the Penn State game as a rivalry. The Panthers came out of the chute fired up and they were up 28-7 just over three minutes into the second quarter. From there, Penn State outscored Pitt 32-14 the rest of the way and had the ball in field goal range with a chance to tie but an interception sealed the deal.

Offensive balance has been problematic for the Panthers who have Read more

College Basketball Gambling: Oklahoma State remains short on bodies

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Keep an eye out for the status of Oklahoma State's Jeffrey Carroll (illness) and Leyton Hammonds (finger). Both players missed Monday's game against Iowa State as the Cowboys managed only 50 points due to an ultra-depleted roster. OSU is currently +4.5 against Texas.

“We’re going to have five out there,” Ford said Wednesday. “Now, I don’t know which five at times, but whatever five we have out there, I expect them to play hard.”

“You’d be lying if you didn’t say it was frustrating at times, but you don’t let it get you down,” Ford said. “You don’t let it interfere, you’re trying to prepare with the guys who are playing. That’s kind of my mindset for the coaching staff and all the players.”
