St. Louis at Pittsburgh -215 O/U 6
Recommendation: Over

‎One of the best clubs in the NHL looks to keep its winning ways going tonight as the Pittsburgh Penguins host the St. Louis Blues. The defending Stanley Cup champs are on a four-game winning streak that included an astronomical 24 goals. Pittsburgh leads the league with 3.67 goals per game and have fired off 30 or more shots in nine of its last 11 contests. Forwards Conor Sheary and Evgeni Malkin have been on fire over their last 10 games with a combined 16 goals and 11 assists. Sidney Crosby had three goals and 10 assists within that same span.

St. Louis has been struggling of late, dropping five of its last seven contests; 28 goals allowed in those five losses. Starting goaltender Jake Allen has given up 14 goals in his last four appearances and has been pulled in four of his last six starts. Head coach Ken Hitchcock was forced to start Carter Hutton in net for three games and GM (and former Hall-of-Fame goalie) Martin Brodeur went so far as to call up Pheonix Copley from AHL to make his first career start in Saturday's 5-3 loss at Winnipeg. The 25-year old Alaska native will Read more

Washington at St. Louis +110 O/U 5
Recommendation: St. Louis

I like to bet against a team that just saw an extended winning streak come to an end and that is what I’m doing here with the Capitals as they saw their nine-game win streak end in a wild, back and forth, high scoring loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night. It’s hard for teams to avoid an emotional and mental letdown in their following game. A perfect example is Columbus who lost 5-4 to the Rangers after their massive 16-game winning streak was snapped. St. Louis is coming off a 6-4 home loss to Ottawa on Tuesday night but that was a tough spot for the Blues as they were playing their fourth game in sixth nights; all of them with travel between games. St. Louis has had issues with their goaltending of late with Jake Allen struggling and Carter Hutton hammered for five goals in that loss to the Senators. I’d expect the Blues to give Allen another chance tonight and I think he will be very motivated to deliver a strong performance. Allen notched a shutout against Washington in his lone previous appearance against the Capitals. Look for St. Louis to play with much Read more

Pittsburgh -120 at Minnesota O/U 5
Recommendation: Pittsburgh

My clients and I cashed a winning ticket on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday as they snapped a two-game losing streak in decisive fashion with a dominant 6-1 blowout over the New York Rangers. I think the Pens are worth backing once again today as they travel to Minnesota to take on the Wild in late afternoon action here on Black Friday. Pittsburgh had struggled offensively scoring two goals or less in three of its last four games prior to the outburst against the Rangers. Sidney Crosby score twice and Phil Kessel score as well to end what had been a recent offensive funk. When the big guns start finding the back of the net for the Penguins, they are a tough team to beat and I expect them to have an added bit of focus and intensity for this game. Note that Minnesota defeated the Penguins 4-2 just a couple weeks ago in Pittsburgh. Minnesota has been horrific offensively as they’ve scored a combined 12 goals in their last seven games. They are relying almost exclusively right now on their defense, penalty kill and goaltender Devan Dubnyk to win them games but shutting down the Read more

Colorado +180 at Washington O/U 5.5
Recommendation: Colorado

The Colorado Avalanche look to stay perfect as they head to Washington to take on the Capitals. The Avs are coming off a 4-3 overtime win over defending Stanley Cup champions Pittsburgh thanks to a late goal by Gabriel Landeskog to send the contest to an extra frame, and another score to win it less than 90 seconds into OT. The Capitals have split their first two games on the year, losing to the aforementioned Penguins in a shootout and defeating the New York Islanders on Saturday in a tight 2-1 battle backed by a strong performance by goaltender Braden Holtby. The reigning Vezina Trophy winner has picked right up where he left off last year, stopping 49 of the 52 shots he's faced in his pair of starts.

Under new coach Jared Bednar, the Avalanche aren't trying to do more than they are capable of. When Patrick Roy was the bench boss, Colorado was looking to play very fast at both ends of the ice, and their defense just simply wasn't up to the task over the previous couple of seasons. Nowadays, the Avs still play up-tempo at times, but they know when to dial it back, especially Read more

New York Rangers (M3) vs. Pittsburgh Penguins (M2)
Series Price: Pittsburgh -175/New York +155
Game 1 Price: Pittsburgh -145 O/U 5

The injury list is long for both squads entering this series. The New York Rangers have several key players listed as questionable including Eric Staal, Mats Zuccarello, Dan Girardi and captain Ryan McDonagh. None of them are a sure thing to be in the lineup for Game 1 tonight. The Pittsburgh Penguins also have multiple players listed as questionable too including both of their goalies Marc-Andre Fleury and Matthew Murray. It appears Fleury (concussion) has been upgraded to probable.

Pittsburgh closed the regular season as the hottest team in the NHL going 14-2 in its last 16 games. The run was impressive considering they were without Evgeni Malkin who will remain out for the beginning of the postseason. The Penguins put together a strong second line with Nick Bonino, Phil Kessel and Carl Hagelin late in the season. It was a nice compliment to the first-line trio of Sidney Crosby, Patric Hornqvist and Chris Kunitz.

Chicago +100 at Pittsburgh O/U 5
Recommendation: Chicago

The Chicago Blackhawks open up a home-and-home series at Pittsburgh this evening. Chicago has heated up as of late with a current three-game winning streak and victories in 10 of its last 14 overall. Patrick Kane has continued to light up the scoreboard with 12 points in his last 10 games. Along with his linemates Artem Anisimov and Artemi Panarin, the trio have combined for 49 goals this season. Corey Crawford has been outstanding between the pipes, recording his league-leading sixth shutout in a 26-save effort over Ottawa on Sunday night. The 31-year old netminder has won nine of his last 12 starts and allowed two or fewer goals in nine of those contests. The Penguins are trying to turn things around on their season having won four of their last six games after suffering a five-game losing streak. The return of goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury from a mild concussion means an obvious upgrade to what had been a very unstable tandem of backups Jeff Zatkoff and call-up Matt Murray. Zatkoff lost three of his last four starts and was demoted to the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton upon Fleury's Read more

Vancouver at Minnesota -145 O/U 5
Recommendation: Minnesota

The Minnesota Wild have strung together five straight wins and are making a push at just the right time.  They’ve gotten back to tough defensive hockey during this stretch having surrendered just three goals in those five wins. Even more impressive is the 26.6 shots per game allowed. All told, the Wild shutout three of those five opponents.  Tonight they face the Vancouver Canucks in what should be another stepping stone for this talented group.  Just last week they defeated the Canucks 4-2.  Now on their home ice the Wild look to dictate that play again as they've won five of the last six meetings between these two teams.  Vancouver is coming off of a dominating 5-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night.  As strong as the Canucks look, they just don't match up well against the Wild.  Minnesota has killed 12 straight power plays and they will keep the dangerous Sedin brothers at bay tonight on the man advantage.  All signs point towards a strong push here from Minnesota.  When all pistons are firing on this team they are hard to Read more

Pittsburgh +100 at NY Islanders O/U 5.5
Recommendation: Pittsburgh

This should be a terrific Eastern Conference showdown here as the Penguins and Islanders, two of the top three teams in the East, do battle with temporary possession of 1st place in the Metropolitan Division at stake. Pittsburgh has won two straight against Montreal and Minnesota while they’ve collected at least a point in five of their last six games. The Penguins have dropped two straight to the NY Islanders this season and I think this is a circled game of sorts for Pittsburgh to prove the Eastern Conference still goes through them as they sit just 1 point behind the Islanders. New York has been a major surprise this season and they have won six of their last eight games by getting timely goals, dramatically improving their defensive play in their own zone, while also getting solid goaltending from Jaroslav Halak. But the Islanders are coming off a monster statement victory against the defending Eastern Conference champion NY Rangers in a 3-0 shutout win and they may not find it all that easy getting themselves fired up once again for another big game. This Penguins team will Read more

Pittsburgh -140 at Florida O/U 5
Recommendation: Under

The Pittsburgh Penguins head to South Florida to face a scrappy Panthers team tonight.  I mentioned before the season started to not buy into what the Penguins were preaching in terms of wanting to play a more fast and up-tempo style.  Everyone was excited for what new coach Mike Johnston would bring to the table and people were lining up to bet this team over the total on a nightly basis.  The truth is they don't have the personal anymore on the back end to make this style possible.  This was a dead nuts under team in the preseason and they continue to be an under squad so far this season, going 13-19 O/U.  Florida has been in the same boat all season as they continually play a gritty style where they struggle to score goals but are tough in their own end.  Florida has managed just 2.1 gpg, but they are giving up a respectable 2.4 gpg.  This has resulted in a 10-16 O/U mark.  We are currently seeing a total of 5 with the Under getting a healthy +120 comeback number.  I am more than happy supporting the total at this price, and even more so if it ticks Read more

Vancouver +125 at Pittsburgh O/U 5.5
Recommendation: Vancouver

The Vancouver Canucks have been on my NHL card multiple times this season including in their most recent game when I cashed a 20* in their 4-3 road win against Washington. The Canucks are surging and playing with tons of confidence under new head coach Willie Desjardins who has loosened the reins on this team and allowed them to get back to playing a more speed driven attack. Vancouver has also been road warriors notching a truly impressive 10-4 record. They will be catching the Pittsburgh Penguins at perhaps their most vulnerable time. The Penguins are dealing with a rash of key injuries as defenseman Kris Letang has been placed on the IR with a groin injury, forward Chris Kunitz is out with a fractured foot and defenseman Robert Bortuzzo will be serving the first game of his two-game suspension. Those recent absences don’t even include Beau Bennett and Pascal Dupuis; two very good offensive weapons for the Penguins who remain out due to injury. That puts more pressure on the shoulders of Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin to keep the offense humming despite the losses of some key Read more
