MLB Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Pittsburgh Pirates at New York Mets

Pittsburgh (Taillon) -107 at New York (Lugo) O/U 7.5
Recommendation: Pittsburgh

Going to buck a couple of recent negative trends that apply here and look to take advantage of a pair of pitching edges. The recent ice cold Pittsburgh offense showed up again yesterday as they were shutout by a quartet of Arizona pitchers. That marked the sixth straight game in which the Pirates have been held to three runs or less and in five of those they’ve scored two or less. Over those half dozen games, Pittsburgh has produced just 44 total bases on 36 hits while striking out 57 times. That is a stark contrast to the hot offense of the Mets which over their last seven games has exploded for 75 hits and 124 total bases which are each MLB highs over that time frame. A four game portion of that can be attributed to playing in Coors field but the fact that New York accumulated 27 hits and 46 total bases against the top three Dodger left handed starters and their Top 5 bullpen is impressive. Just not sold that the hot bats continue tonight against Pirates RH Jameson Taillon since this current tear is a total contradiction to what the Mets offense Read more

MLB Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Texas Rangers at Seattle Mariners

Texas (Fister) +150 at Seattle (Gonzales) O/U 8
Recommendation: Texas

Weekend sweep of Minnesota was a pretty impressive feat by the banged up Mariners. The cumulative 9-5 final score for the three game series displays Seattle’s current need to pitch extremely well in order to win games. Their depleted lineup was missing another solid piece yesterday when SS Jean Segura was held out due to a possible concussion. He went through the protocol and is likely going to be held out today as a precautionary measure. Newly acquired OF Denard Span figures to make his Seattle debut and it will be interesting to see if his insertion isn’t more disruptive than helpful since he’ll probably replace currently hot Ben Gamel (7-for-15 last 4 games). The good news for Seattle is the rest closer Edwin Diaz was able to get yesterday after working four of the last five games. Alex Colome who came over with Span in the trade with the Rays picked up the save yesterday and now really fortifies the back third of the M’s bullpen.

Texas has quietly heated up offensively with an .841 OPS the past week which was the third highest Read more

MLB Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks at Milwaukee Brewers

Arizona (Greinke) at Milwaukee (Anderson) +105 O/U 8
Recommendation: Milwaukee

Tough to bank on the Diamondbacks for anything right now, especially after Patrick Corbin set the table perfectly Saturday and then watched his win evaporate in less than five minutes. When ultra- reliable setup man Archie Bradley (loss and blown save in 2 of L3 appearances) joins the dismal offense as a component that fails, you end up with a 1-9 record in your last 10 games. Injuries continue to be the major problem for the Diamondbacks who finally had 3B Jake Lamb return to the lineup last week only to have Steven Souza Jr. reinjure his pectoral muscle that same night after just losing CF A.J. Pollock for 6-8 weeks three days earlier. A 10-day DL decision on Souza is coming today and it seems likely he’s headed there. His slash line of .167/.239/.429 wasn’t helping the offense at all but his defense was outstanding. Currently, tonight’s starting pitcher Zack Greinke is the only player on their 25-man roster that has a batting average over .265 (10 of their 13 position players have an OBP less than .290). Granted, Lamb is Read more

MLB Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Detroit Tigers at Texas Rangers

Detroit (Fulmer) at Texas (Moore) -110 O/U 9.5
Recommendation: Under

Short card tonight in MLB but not short in opportunities including this one. Tigers begin a three game set in Arlington fresh off an unproductive four game series in Kansas City where they lost three and also developed a widespread case of clubhouse flu symptoms. Already down hot hitting offensive leader Miguel Cabrera, Detroit’s second best threat Nick Castellanos was relegated to pinch-hitting duties because of the flu yesterday. Along with that, third baseman and #2 hitter Jeimer Candelario was out due to a jammed thumb and today it’s being reported by the Dallas Morning News that SS Jose Iglesias could miss tonight’s game due to an ankle injury. All added up, that’s Detroit’s 2-4 hitters plus their best defensive player who could all be out tonight. One look at yesterday’s lineup shows how shaky the Tigers are on offense right now. They only scored seven runs in the three games after Cabrera went down this weekend and over their last 12 games they’ve been held to three or less 10 times. That should bode well for Read more

MLB Handicapper Free Betting Pick: San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
San Diego (Lauer) at San Francisco (Samardzija) -160 O/U 7.5
Recommendation: Over

San Diego was looking for the same lightning in a bottle effect that they’ve gotten from rookie LH starter Joey Lucchesi when they called up fellow rookie southpaw Eric Lauer last week. The results were drastically different as Lauer allowed 10 base runners and six earned runs in his three innings of work against Colorado. In fairness, Coors Field is not an ideal venue for a rookie pitcher to make his first MLB start so we’re likely to get a truer feel for what Lauer may be when he throws in pitcher friendly AT&T park tonight. In his debut, Lauer was basically a two pitch pitcher throwing his fastball (69%) & cutter (23%) on 68 of his 74 pitches. He averaged 91 MPH on his fastball and 87 on the cutter so there wasn’t much variation speed or pitch wise in his short stint. Deceptiveness in his delivery has helped propel him to the big leagues (had 19 strikeouts in 18 Minor league innings prior to Colorado start) so tonight will be another chance.

San Francisco very quietly has begun to hit much better scoring 4 runs or Read more
