NBA Playoff Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Washington Wizards at Toronto Raptors

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Washington at Toronto -8 O/U 211
Recommendation: Toronto

The betting markets certainly aren’t sleeping on the Toronto Raptors extended stretch of playoff failures. Make no mistake about it – the Raptors have been a dismal pointspread team in the postseason throughout the Dwayne Casey era, quite literally never living up to betting market expectations.

The results do not lie. The Raptors went 3-6-1 ATS in their ten playoff games last year. They went 7-13 ATS in their 20 playoff games in 2016. In 2015, it was an 0-4 ATS Run as they got swept and in 2014, the Raptors covered only two pointspreads while getting eliminated in the first round in seven games.

When you add up all of that carnage, we’re talking about a 12-27-2 pointspread run in the postseason during the Dwayne Casey era. That includes a truly ugly run in Game 1’s: 11 SU losses in 12 tries as a franchise, including an 0-7 SU and ATS record in Game 1’s over the last four postseasons.

No surprise here that the betting public has been more than a little reluctant to put their $$ on the Raptors as big home chalk in Game 1 Read more

NBA Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Charlotte Hornets at Washington Wizards

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Charlotte at Washington -3.5 O/U 212.5
Recommendation: Washington

There’s a lot to like about the Washington Wizards right now. The markets devalued the Wizards immediately after star point guard John Wall got hurt. Since Wall’s injury, Tomas Satoransky and Tim Frazier have gotten the job done at the point in his absence; a duo that combined for 19 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists without a single turnover in the Wizards outright upset victory at Cleveland last night.

Wins and covers have been the norm, not the exception for Scott Brooks squad of late. They’ve gone 8-2 SU, 8-2 ATS since Wall’s injury. And both losses deserve an asterisk – they lost in OT against the top notch Celtics and on the second night of back-2-backs at surging Philly. Last night’s win at Cleveland was just one outright upset during this span. They also beat Toronto and OKC as home dogs during this recent span of excellence.

The advanced metric numbers show that Washington’s current surge is no accident. Both their offensive and defensive stats have improved since Wall’s injury; most notably Read more

NBA Handicapping: Strength of Schedule the remainder of the season

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Good article on the NBA's strength of schedule the remainder of the season. Despite playing in the Western Conference, the Golden State Warriors have the easiest remaining slate. The Washington Wizards, who according to ESPN's SOS have played the easiest schedule of any team in the league, will now face one of the toughest.

NBA Gambling News: It doesn't sound like the Washington Wizards are in a good place

01.23.2018     11:55 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
A lot of drama in the NBA to discuss today so let's get it started with the Washington Wizards. Reports are out that a recent "team meeting" actually did more harm than good. Their play on the court certainly suggests it was. Last week, the Wiz coughed up 133 to bottom feeder Charlotte. They bounced back with a 10-point road win over Detroit but last night were somehow outclassed in Dallas, 98-75. On the season, Washington is a semi-respectable 26-21 SU but a dismal 20-27 ATS. They've also played the easiest schedule in the NBA. And what makes Washington a very ripe fade moving forward is that compared to the rest of the Eastern Conference, there is talent, and by default, they’ll have something to play for with a playoff berth likely. Up next, a Thursday tilt at Oklahoma City.

"We had our team meeting," Wall said Friday. "A couple guys took it the negative way and it hurt our team. Instead of taking it in a positive way like we did in the past and using it to build our team up, it kind of set us back a little

NBA Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Washington Wizard at Utah Jazz

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Washington at Utah -4 O/U 198.5
Recommendation: Over

The Utah Jazz have been in good form having won and covered five straight while averaging 115.4 ppg. Donovan Mitchell (21.8 ppg) along with Derrick Favors and sixth man Alec Burks have led the offensive revival which should continue tonight versus Washington. After a solid run of player imposed dedication on the defensive end of the floor, Washington is now slipping back to it old ways. The focus on defending led the Wizards to a streak of seven straight games in which they held opponents to 100 points or less. They’ve since allowed 108 or more in three of their last five and 107 ppg over that span. That likely becomes troublesome tonight against the hot Utah offense especially since Washington’s game-to-game player quotes of focusing on defense have now quieted. Without the intensity on that end, expect Utah to approach and maybe exceed 110 points tonight. The good news for Washington is that their own offense has continued to be high caliber scoring 108.6 ppg over their last five games despite being without the service of John Wall. NBA Handicapping: Players resting and big line moves highlight final day of regular season

04.12.2017     11:44 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
It's the final day of the NBA regular season and while nearly every playoff seed and matchup has been determined the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference is still up go grabs. Chicago, who plays host to Brooklyn, own the tiebreaker over Miami, who plays host to Washington. Unlike most lottery teams, the Nets haven't been in tank mode due to their draft pick being sent elsewhere. However, they decided tonight would be a good opportunity to rest some of their key players. This pushed the Bulls up from -9 to -14.5 favorites. The Wizards are sitting a bunch of guys as well but even if the Heat win (-8.5 to -11.5), a Bulls victory means Miami is out. Indiana sits a game ahead of both Chicago and Miami and should have any easy go of it against an Atlanta squad that is resting its starters. The Pacers were bet up from -7.5 to -14.5.

Washington at Indiana +3 O/U 215
Recommendation: Indiana

I haven’t bet against Washington since the calendar turned to 2017.  But this is the spot to fade the Wizards, and the markets seem to be convinced that the Pacers are going to go into the All-Star Break in the midst of a six-game skid.  That gives us ample value to back Indiana as a home dog this evening.

In theory, this is a great spot for Washington.  The Pacers have lost five straight, including a defensive no-show in Cleveland last night; the fifth straight game that Indiana has allowed at least 110 points.  Meanwhile, the Wizards are rested and ready – they’ve only played once since last Friday, a blowout win over OKC that was garbage time by the middle of the third quarter.

But as we clearly saw last night with the Houston-Miami game, an extended rest BEFORE the All-Star Break is not necessarily a good thing – teams lose their focus.  The Rockets were in the exact same spot at the Wizards – coming off a rare, extended rest, having played only one game since last week, a blowout win.  Washington has been as Read more
