Denver Nuggets Gameplan in Game 2

04.19.2010     01:43 PM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Some interesting notes from a recent Denver Post blog entry by Chris Dempsey. Read the entire entry by following the link provided HERE.

“I told Chauncey (Billups) we can’t give them 100 points,” Martin said on Sunday morning. “I think our record is pretty good when we hold teams under 100 points. I think that needs to be our focus.”

“We have to eliminate the easy baskets, first and foremost,” Martin said. “Get Deron under control in transition, because he was running up the bigs’ backs and getting to the (free throw) line.

“What we have to improve on is transition defense, making Williams see a crowd,” Nuggets acting coach Adrian Dantley said. “Make him work a little bit harder. Him and (Carlos) Boozer. Hopefully we can improve on that.”

College Basketball News and Notes

Mike Rosario leaves Rutgers and transfers to Florida - "It's a total different atmosphere," Rosario told The Associated Press. "It's a great school to go to college to. They just take care of things the right way and that's the environment I want for myself and my future. I chose to make that decision."

Analysis - The move was supposedly made before the Fred Hill baseball game smack talk incident. Rosario was one of Rutgers' few legitimate Big East caliber players but had to force a lot of shots and make more plays than he was probably capable of. He should fit in nicely with the Gators after sitting out a year due to the transfer.

Missouri's Mike Anderson says "no thanks" to Oregon - "It's certainly flattering any time another university notices what your program is accomplishing and when I was approached by Oregon, I decided to listen, but it was simply with my family in mind," Anderson said in a statement Saturday night. Boston Celtics Without Kevin Garnett

04.19.2010     12:21 PM     Printer Friendly
Kevin Garnett couldn’t keep his elbows to himself. After jacking Quentin Richardson’s face he has been suspended for game two of the Celtics/Heat playoff series. Too bad he couldn’t heed his own advice during the game.

“I would just say you can’t let your emotions get the best of you. You have to sort of bite down a little bit and understand the situation you’re in. But it’s an emotional game. It’s a very high-intensity game.” He added, “Everybody’s playing with those same high emotions on both sides and it’s aggressive out there. At some point you have to be in control of yourself.”

Boston is currently a 1 to 1.5 point favorite at home with a total of 179. Below you will find a table detailing Boston’s results this season without Garnett in the lineup.

Monday MLB Free Play: Chicago at New York

Teddy Covers sends over this freebie in baseball...

Monday, April 19th
Chicago @ New York
Recommendation: Take the Under.

The struggling Mets offense can’t hit their way out of a wet paper bag these days. Five of their eight positional starters last night are hitting .220 or lower. New York produced three runs or less in all three games of their just concluded series at St Louis. They were also held to three runs or less in three of their last four games at Citi Field; shut down by the likes of second tier hurlers like John Lannan, Livan Hernandez, Nate Robertson and Jamie Garcia during this span.

Don’t expect the Mets offense to come alive today against Randy Wells. Wells shut the Mets down in his lone appearance here last year, allowing a single earned run in six innings of work in a 4-2 ballgame that stayed well Under the total. In his lone previous road start this season, Wells threw six innings of shutout ball against Atlanta, getting the 2-0 victory, another Under cash. Read more

Happ could miss next start due to arm issues

04.19.2010     08:05 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
I originally thought that JA Happ's last performance (6 walks, 0 strikeouts) had something to do with Joe West being behind the plate but it looks as if there may be some potential arm issues as I found this article by the Philadelphia Inquirer. Also of note is Joe Blanton (stomach strain) who is will make an upcoming Minor League start and could be back in the Phillies rotation by early May. - Andrew Lange

Lefthander J.A. Happ could miss his next start with left forearm soreness, Phillies pitching coach Rich Dubee said Sunday. But the Phillies will wait to make a decision. Happ is in line to pitch Wednesday in Atlanta.

The Phillies are taking precautions with Happ, and Dubee and manager Charlie Manuel both said they were not yet forced to make a decision on his next start. Even if Happ is healthy, Roy Halladay could take his place Wednesday because the Phillies have said they

How pitchers fared following a no-hitter

04.19.2010     07:55 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
After Ubaldo Jimenez’ no-hitter this past weekend, I went back and looked up the numbers of the next start following a no-hitter – or in the case of Mark Buehrle a perfect game. Here are the results of the last eight. Buchholz’ was a little unique as his next appearance was out of the bullpen and his next true start was more than two weeks later. With the exception of Zambrano's implosion, the performances weren't that bad even though the teams didn't fare that well. The WIN or LOSS was the result of the team. - Andrew Lange

Ubaldo Jimemez (4/17/10)
Next Start - @ Washington, Thursday

Mark Buehrle (7/23/09) *Perfect Game
Next Start - 6.1 innings, 5 earned runs, LOSS

Jonathan Sanchez (7/10/09)
Next Start - 6 innings, 3 earned runs, LOSS

Carlos Zambrano (9/14/08)
Next Start - 1.2 innings, 8 earned runs, LOSS

Jon Lester (5/19/08)
Next Start - 5 innings, 3 earned runs, LOSS

Clay Buchholz (9/1/07)
Next Start - 4.2 innings, 1

Lineup changes for Red Sox and Cubs expected

04.19.2010     07:31 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
USA Today reporting that both Chicago and Boston are expected to shake up their lineups. Boston plays here in a few hours with the Boston Marathon already underway. Chicago travels to New York to take on the Mets.

Expect lineup changes, Piniella says, especially against left-handed starting pitching. That means tonight in New York, where the Cubs face Mets lefty Jon Niese. In fact, it's three lefties in the four-game series, with Oliver Perez scheduled for the Mets on Wednesday and Johan Santana on Thursday.

The schedule could be shake-up and wake-up enough for the Boston Red Sox, whose 4-8 start is their worst in 15 years. They play their annual Patriots Day morning game, starting at 11:05 ET, and try to avoid a four-game home sweep by the Tampa Bay Rays.

Red Sox manager Terry Francona said after Sunday's loss, "We're not doing a lot of things well right now," but he's also being patient with his team.

"I don't see guys firing helmets or doing things out of the
