Since losing at home to South Florida on January 5th, Villanova seems to have made some major improvements. The young team is picking up on what it takes to play in the Big East, and their talent is emerging. As a result, they are 3-2 SU and 4-1 ATS since that loss, and faced three of the top teams in the league during that stretch. Maalik Wayns has become a star at the point and freshman Jayvaughn Pinkston is rapidly improving on the block. They are a team that could be a money maker down the stretch, and judging by tonight’s line, no one has caught on to their improvements. Louisville is off a win at Pitt in which Kyle Kuric returned to lead them on the offense, but this is still a flawed team. Online gambling and social media develop logical partnership

Social media is quickly becoming a hub for online gambling and interactive companies are looking to cash in. Reno's International Game Technology (they make slots) is working out a deal with Double Down Interactive worth upwards of $500 million.
Double Down Casino draws millions of monthly Facebook users, who play poker, blackjack and slots for virtual rewards such as free chips to keep playing. Hart said acquiring Double Down is IGT’s entry into the rapidly growing world of social online gaming. She said she thought social gaming with virtual currency could “peacefully coexist” with IGT’s core business of catering to gamblers and casinos.
“This is our effort to move outside of the current restrictions that we are all battling to participate in an experience that is different in the actual way the financial transaction takes place,” Hart said.

Part of my success in handicapping college basketball and delivering positive and profitable pointspread prognosis is listening to college coaches’ weekly teleconferences and picking up information that goes beyond the box scores, stats or even scheduling situations. Coaches may give you additional injury information or comment on their recent play, changes in style or how to handle an upcoming opponent. I’m always looking for additional nuggets and information that don’t necessarily show up in the box scores or translate to the betting line. Some of the conversation can be general discussion or overview, but at times I find it helpful to not only hear the coach discuss his teams play and upcoming opponent, but also provide their insight into player personnel, style of play or even analyze their team’s recent energy, effort and level of play.

I recently came across an interesting note and trend on a first half money-maker this season. I identified this team and situation early season, but must admit I did not follow through consistently betting the Eastern Michigan totals after a few cashes early season. Many college basketball bettors do not wager on first half lines, but come the second half, bettors often fire away at the adjusted halftime lines. There’s only one reason that the New England Patriots, not the Baltimore Ravens, are in the Super Bowl. That reason? Unheralded, undrafted rookie free agent Sterling Moore made the game saving play, knocking the ball out of Baltimore wide receiver Lee Evans’ hands in the end zone, negating what would have been the game winning Ravens touchdown in the closing seconds.
Moore’s story is a fascinating one. He didn’t get any scholarship offers out of high school. After enrolling at Laney Community College in Oakland, he tried out for the football team on a lark, as a favor for a friend. , it has been suggested that you get your Super Bowl XLVI bets in before the bell rings.
In addition to betting pools, the Big Board also bars "bookmaking, numbers games, or other organized for-profit betting activity relating to sporting activities, other outside events or games of chance." Making bets by phone, computer and other device while on NYSE premises also is a no-no. So are displays of "gambling devices" such as pool boxes and betting slips, officials wrote.

For the upcoming Super Bowl between New York and New England, the first half total currently sits at 27.5 or 28 depending on where you shop. There is a real head scratching contrast in the first half play of Patriots games this season. What’s very interesting to note is that their road games have been significantly higher scoring than those played in Foxboro. In six of their eight road games this season, New England’s first halves have totaled 27 or more points and those contests averaged 31 points. Conversely, Patriots home games resulted in 23 first half points or less seven of 10 times for an average of 21.7 points. The initial reaction to those extremely different first half point totals would be that New England’s last two games have been at home and their defense has improved of late. Why on earth is Southern Illinois laying -7 in a conference game? I understand Bradley is not very good and the Salukis are coming off a 85-42 beat down at Wichita, but this number is in my opinion way too high. Situational aside, let's look at the facts: Both teams have faced similar league schedules and have nearly identical statistical profiles. They struggle to defend on a consistent basis and have no real edge in any facet of the game. SIU has managed to pick up a few more league wins and by default deserves to be favored, but I expected to see this game lined in the -3 range. SIU won the first meeting in Peoria but shot an uncharacteristically high 57% from the floor. Unless that type of effort occurs again, I think the road team can stick around and make this a game.

We're about 36 hour removed from sportsbooks posting their openers for Super Bowl XLVI. Up until this point a majority of the money has come in on the New York Giants. We mentioned yesterday that most offshore shops opened with New England -3.5. Bettors however pounced on the Giants and the key number of +3.5. The line then dipped to New England -3 (-120) followed shortly thereafter by a flat -3 (-110). Then yesterday afternoon another wave of Giants money came in dropping the line to New England -3 (+105/EV)/New York +3 (-125/-120). There are even a few offshore shops (5Dimes, BetOnline) currently offering the Pats at -2.5 (-125). Pinnacle's dropdown menu has New England -2.5 (-120). In Las Vegas, every major sportsbook is showing New England -3 (EV or -105).
