Super Bowl XLVI Prop Bet Pick: Kenny Phillips OVER 5 Tackles+Assists

Super Bowl XLVI Prop Bet
NY Giants safety Kenny Phillips Tackles+Assists
Recommendation: Over 5 -135 (Greek)

Willing to play New York Giants strong safety Kenny Phillips at this number against the Patriots offense which is tailor made for tackles at this position. The short to intermediate portions of the field play prominent roles in New England’s tight end heavy scheme which should make Phillips very active. In the first contest between these teams, he recorded six tackles and two assists which is an indicator of how involved the strong safety position is against New England. In the AFC Championship game a couple weeks ago, Baltimore Ravens strong safety Bernard Pollard led his team with seven tackles and added five assists. New England’s no huddle offense generated 73 total plays back in Week 9 when these teams met and their average of 65.6 gives Phillips ample opportunities to exceed this number.

Super Bowl XLVI Prop Bet Pick: Will the game be tied after 0-0?

Super Bowl XLVI Prop Bet
Will the game be tied after 0-0?
Recommendation: Yes +110 (Pinnacle)

My handicap for this game says it’s going to be close throughout.  I don’t expect either team to run away and hide if they get an early lead, exactly the case in the first meeting between these two teams when the score was tied at 10-10 in the second half.  You can currently find plus money on this prop (+110 at Pinny as I type this); a worthy wager in what should be a very competitive ballgame.

Your days of watching live streams of random mid-major basketball games appear all but over and you can thank the U.S. Immigration Customs Enforcement agency for it. Around Super Bowl time, the ICE cracks down on websites offering unauthorized sporting events. NBA Handicapper Game Preview: Denver Nuggets at Los Angeles Clippers

Denver +1 at LA Clippers O/U 206
Recommendation: Denver

My clients and I have made good money supporting Denver through the first six weeks of the NBA season, and the Nuggets remain an undervalued commodity as they travel to LA for a ‘quick turnaround’ revenge meeting tonight. We’re catching George Karl’s squad in a real moneymaking situation – off a poorly played loss, as they blew a double digit fourth quarter lead against Memphis on Tuesday, followed by another blown lead in overtime. That loss came on the heels of another blown fourth quarter lead at home against the Clips, a game where Chauncey Billups lived up to his ‘Mr. Big Shot’ moniker, on fire from three point range down the stretch.

The Nuggets haven’t lost three in a row all year, and I don’t expect that to change following tonight’s game. Coach George Karl: “I actually think our mental attitude on the road court has been better-focused than at Read more

College Basketball Betting Free Play: Eastern Kentucky at Eastern Illinois

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Eastern Kentucky at Eastern Illinois -2.5 O/U 127.5
Recommendation: Under

Not sure why this total is getting bet up as both Eastern Illinois and Eastern Kentucky prefer to play at a slow pace and aren't particularly sharp when it comes to shooting the basketball. In conference play, EIU is averaging an awful 0.91 points per possession. EKU is better though the Colonels average about 63 possessions per game. Both meetings last year were lined in the low 120's and went under. And perhaps one of the strongest trends – unknown to most bettors – is that Eastern Illinois has gone under the total in 49 of its last 62 league games. Also, there is absolutely no reason why EIU should be favored by as high as -3 in this contest. Play accordingly.

Investment firm calls for a New England Patriots pointspread cover

02.02.2012     07:43 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Analytic Investors LLC, a money management firm based out of Las Angeles, has reportedly picked the against the spread winner of the Super Bowl eight straight years. This year's pick is on the New England Patriots.

“Everyone thinks the Giants are rolling right now, a lot of people in my office even,” said Matthew Robinson, a portfolio analyst for global and Japanese equities at Analytic and the author of this year’s analysis. “They like the Giants, but they have faith in the model as well.”

“We took into account how the public has been betting the Giants the past few weeks and winning with them,” he said in a telephone interview. “We opened three based on that and have gotten a lot of Giants money anyway. I can see how it correlates from that perspective; not from a predicting standpoint maybe, but from a value standpoint.”

Super Bowl XLVI Prop Bet Pick: First kickoff to result in a touchback

Super Bowl XLVI Prop Bet
First kickoff to result in a touchback?
Recommendation: Yes -200

This bet is still worth making at -200 or better, and it’s an interesting handicap.  The Patriots have a strong tendency to defer when they win the opening coin toss, while the Giants’ prevailing tendency is to get the ball first when they win the toss.  As a result, chances are pretty good that it’s going to be Stephen Gostkowski with the opening kickoff, not Lawrence Tynes.  Gostkowski is a touchback type kicker with a big leg and the adrenaline will most assuredly be flowing for that opening kick.  The Giants don’t attempt many kickoff returns from deep in their own end zone – without a strong return game, they are quite comfortable taking the ball at the 20-yard line.  And the pristine conditions inside Lucas Oil Stadium have produced touchbacks on 76% of the kickoffs for the full season.  Put it all together and we’re getting a 3:1 favorite while laying 2:1 or less to do it.

College Basketball Handicapping: Undefeated home teams

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Every season I discuss and post information on the importance of home courts in college basketball and mention how teams perform with a home/road dichotomy. Understanding home court advantage and the situations surrounding the current contests is important in helping you isolate winners. While the oddsmaker factors home court into the pointspread, there are teams who still perform much better on their home floor. Understanding player strengths and match-ups, team chemistry, current form and statistical performance both home and away is part of breaking down a game. Supporting fans and a comfortable surrounding should only help the home team perform better.  Along with good coaching and preparation, players can become more consistent in their play at home along with their performance when having to take to the road in hostile environments. Once teams get to postseason play, you must factor in and handicap a team’s home/road performance to deliver more pointspread winners.

Some of the best situational plays develop during February. Many conference teams are now playing "second meets" or opponents for the second time in conference play. These Read more

NFL Handicapping: 77-year-old Vegas man wins Station Casinos' Football Contest

02.02.2012     06:00 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Article on Las Vegas resident Ernie Carey, who at 77 years old won this year's Station Casinos' NFL Contest. Carey finished 180-65, 73% straight up to claim the title. The grand prize was apparently a $225K house.

“In the first week, I had every team but the (New England) Patriots, who lost to the (Buffalo) Bills after being ahead at halftime,” Carey said. “That’s kind of the way the year went.”

“When we get that money, it will replenish my gambling fund,” Carey said. “My wife said she wants to buy new furniture, but I want to have a little extra to gamble.”

“I bet on the Patriots to win the Super Bowl at the beginning of the playoffs and I got 5-2 (odds). So if they win, I’ll get $183. Then, I put $90 on the Giants and am getting three points,” he said. “So, if they keep in close, I’ll win both sides.
