Sunday NBA Free Betting Pick: Denver Nuggets at Oklahoma City Thunder

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Denver +8.5 at Oklahoma City O/U 209
Recommendation: Denver

The Nuggets will be looking forward to this match-up tonight on ESPN.  Of course, it was the Thunder who broke up Denver’s sensational second half run last season.  The Nuggets were overwhelmed at times during that playoff series and eventually swept.  Again, you can count on George Karl and the Nuggets circling this game on their calendar as they look for playoff revenge.  The Nuggets have struggled on the court of late, while losing seven of their last nine.  Injuries have hampered this team, and they expect to be without Nene for this showdown.  The schedule has been unforgiving for this team as you could clearly see in a few recent games there was simply little in the gas tank.  Meanwhile, the Thunder have played a tough schedule as well posting a 5-3 record over their last eight games.  As usual the Thunder tend to out-firepower their opposition with the combination of Kevin Read more

NCAA Gambling Notes: Oregon admits it is out of PAC-12 race

Oregon at Stanford -6 O/U 136

Heading into Thursday's game at Cal, Oregon was right in the thick of the PAC-12 title race. After a tough three-point loss to the Golden Bears, the Ducks dropped to fifth and are all but out of contention. Telling quote from head coach Dana Altman following the loss to Cal…

"We're in bad shape for the (title) race. ... We had to have that one, we knew that," Oregon coach Dana Altman said of the loss to the co-leading Bears. "We can't worry about the race now."

College Basketball Betting Alert: Purdue suspends two for Michigan State game

Michigan State -5 at Purdue O/U 131

Purdue will be without two players for this afternoon's matchup against Michigan State. Head coach Matt Painter kicked Kelsey Barlow (8.3 ppg) off the team and suspended starter DJ Byrd (8.0 ppg). Michigan State was bet up from an opener of -3 to -5.

Painter didn't want to discuss it during a morning teleconference. He later issued a statement: "This is an unfortunate situation, but we will move forward as a program," he said. "We expect our student-athletes to live up to a high standard, and when their actions become detrimental to the program, there are consequences."

NBA Betting Stock Watch: Memphis Grizzlies earn the Buy Sign

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Buy the Memphis Grizzlies – We rode the Grizzlies all the way to the bank last season – supporting them before the betting marketplace caught on.  They were a pointspread darling last season and then some.  Including the playoffs, Memphis covered an amazing 65% of its games last season. We suspected that they’d have their work cut out for them in this lockout shortened season and that has proved correct as the Grizzlies are 15-16 ATS nearing the halfway point of the campaign.  Depth has always been a concern with this team and adding to it is the injury situation with Zach Randolph and Darrell Arthur missing on the inside.  Head coach Lionel Hollins has faced little choice but to log his core six players a ton of minutes.  One of the crucial keys for the Grizzlies last season was their awesome display of energy on a nightly basis.  Again, with so many games packed into this shortened season, at times, the energy level just hasn’t been there.  However, keep a stern eye on the Grizzlies after the All-Star break.  Their schedule let’s up immensely.  This will give this team ample time to Read more

NCAA Basketball Gambling Preview: New Mexico in revenge spot against UNLV

02.18.2012     08:00 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
UNLV at New Mexico -4.5 O/U 141

New Mexico looking for its second straight revenge victory after taking down San Diego State by 10 on the road Wednesday. Now they'll try to do it in The Pit against UNLV who won the first meeting in Las Vegas, 80-63. Adding to it is that the Rebels have won two straight in The Pit and four of the last five meetings.

Note that UNLV has not been a great road team with three wins coming in overtime against far lesser competition and losses at Wichita, Wisconsin, San Diego State, Wyoming and most recently, TCU.

“We’ve been fortunate in five years that we’ve had a lot of games with big-time atmosphere,” UNM coach Steve Alford said. “What gets added on to this is we’ve got CBS in here. We’ve got a national TV situation that we don’t always get. To have this, will Read more

Bracket Buster Free Betting Pick: Southeast Missouri at McNeese State

02.18.2012     07:37 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Southeast Missouri at McNeese State
Recommendation: McNeese State

Looking to take advantage of a little travel here on Bracket Buster Saturday at Southeast Missouri bused the 11 hours to Lake Charles, Louisiana to face McNeese State. This after playing an emotional senior day game against the OVC's top team Murray State on Wednesday. McNeese State had difficultly in the early going against non-conference teams but like a lot of the Southland, they were forced to go about it on the road. McNeese beat a very solid Lamar team on this court earlier this season and acquitted themselves well in a nine-point loss to what has no become a 22-4 Southern Miss squad. Both teams are pretty even (SEMO 211 Ken Pom, McNeese 217 Ken Pom) but one is in its comfort zone and one has an 11-hour bus trip home. These meaningless games for both sides can be tricky but I think McNeese is worth a bet in some capacity – first half (-2.5) or game (-5).

NCAA Basketball Betting Alert: Villanova likely down two starters vs. Notre Dame

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Notre Dame -2 at- Villanova- O/U 132.5

Villanova likely to be with two starters as Maalik Wayns (knee, 17.8 ppg) is listed as doubtful and James Bell (ankle, 7.5 ppg) is out.

"Obviously we would miss both of those guys but this is an opportunity for some of our younger guys to contribute and gain experience," stated Wright.
