Missouri Valley Conference Tournament like Christmas for UNDER bettors

03.01.2012     01:27 PM     Printer Friendly
One of the safer bets with college basketball conference tournaments of late has been playing UNDERS in the Missouri Valley – most notably the first round which is now 1-7 O/U over the last four years. Bettors, obviously aware of this trend, pounded CRIS's openers which greatly decreased the current value of tonight's two games. Southern Illinois-Indiana State opened 129 and is now as low as 123.5. Bradley-Drake opened 129 and is 126.5/126 across the board.

Missouri Valley Tournament Totals Results
2008: First Round 1-1 O/U; Overall 4-5 O/U
2009: First Round 0-2 O/U; Overall 3-6 O/U
2010: First Round 0-2 O/U; Overall 4-5 O/U
2011: First Round 0-2 O/U; Overall 0-9 O/U
Total: First Round 1-7 O/U; Overall 11-25 O/U

NBA Betting Alert: Minnesota's Love (flu) questionable vs. Phoenix

03.01.2012     11:40 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Minnesota at Phoenix -4.5 O/U 201

Not a lot of information available on Minnesota forward Kevin Love and his status for tonight's game at Phoenix. Bettors were caught off guard when Love (flu) was a late scratch last night against the Lakers. The Timberwolves lost 104-85. With tomorrow off, perhaps Love will sit out another game but given the inconsistent nature of the NBA's injury information this season, he’s a legitimate question mark.

NHL Handicapper Free Pick: Calgary Flames at Phoenix Coyotes

Calgary +150 at Phoenix O/U 5
Recommendation: Calgary

There is no doubt that one of the hottest teams on paper right now is the Phoenix Coyotes.  Winners of 11 of their last 12 games they have vaulted up the standings, claiming the top spot in the Pacific Division which is good for third overall in the Western Conference.  Not everything is as it seems though and upon closer examination we see that five of those 11 wins were in a shootout or overtime.  Both times during this streak it took overtime or a shootout for the Coyotes to get by the Flames.  One has to think that the bounces won't be going the Coyotes way every night.  Calgary has lost its last four games with two of those games coming in a shootout.  They have faced some very stiff competition of late and should be up to the task tonight in what I project to be another close one goal game. The play is definitely on the big juicy dog.

College Basketball Free Play: Portland Pilots vs. San Francisco Dons

Portland vs. San Francisco -9 O/U 148
Recommendation: San Francisco

San Francisco has done a good job taking care of the bottom-tier of the WCC this season. In games against Portland, Pepperdine, San Diego and Santa Clara, the Dons won by margins of 34, 1, 15, 13, 14, 16 and 11. The lone single-digit game was a one-point road win over Portland but San Fran was playing the second of back-to-back road games; off a hard fought loss at Gonzaga. Portland has been outclassed for much of the year. They've managed to catch a few teams napping but three of their four league wins came against Santa Clara who didn't win a conference game. After starting the year 0-4 in league play, San Fran finished 8-8 with competitive losses to Loyola Marymount, BYU and St. Mary's and a home win over Gonzaga. The Dons are the better team in this matchup across the board and should be able to handle Portland from the opening tip.

NBA Handicapping: Miami Heat tighten the screws on defense

Miami -5 at Portland O/U 196.5

The Miami Heat come in out of the All-Star break playing some pretty solid defense. After losing to Orland 102-89 on February 8, the Heat have won eight straight (7-1 ATS) and allowed 90.4 ppg. Five of those eight games went under the total.

"We're a dangerous team when we hold teams under their averages, because it allows us to get out and run," LeBron James said. "When we run we're kind of unbeatable because we get up the court so fast."

NCAA Basketball Gambling: Michigan a perfect 7-0 ATS following a loss

Michigan at Illinois -2.5 O/U 121

With Michigan State's loss at Indiana on Tuesday, Michigan still has a shot at owning a share of the Big Ten title. The Wolverines are off a disappointing senior night loss to Purdue and travel to face Illinois. UM has played extremely well after a loss this season with a perfect 7-0 SU/ATS record. Illinois meanwhile snapped a six-game losing streak with a win over Iowa on Sunday.

“We know there’s a chance,” Beilein said. “Given the fact that we’re the No. 1 RPI league, we’re the No. 1 Sagarin league — would you like to win a conference championship outright? Yeah.

“But if you’re co-champs, or tri-champs or quad-champs, I don’t care. We’re champs, and that’s what we’re trying to get to.”

Paddy Power's new commercial is a gas

Irish sportsbook Paddy Power is back at it with another wacky commercial. We don't really get the back story of this one but using tranquilizer darts on humans is always pretty funny.
