in recent wins over Marquette and Villanova. It sounds as if we could see more of it today against Georgetown.
“Sometimes when you get on the road, it can be tough out there with the whistle,” Cronin said. “You don’t want teams parading to the foul line against you. Marquette shot 45 free throws against Georgetown on Saturday. What chance do you have if that happens? Sometimes zone is best for us, depending on who we’re playing and what we think they’re going to do against our man-to-man. The key is to be able to play both. It makes you a better team.”

Favorite – Ohio State
– The Big Ten conference featured a three-way tie for the regular season title with Ohio State, Michigan State and Michigan all at 13-5. However, after the Buckeyes took care of business in East Lansing last week they are priced as small favorites to cut down the nets in Indianapolis on Sunday. A team like Michigan could very well be satisfied with its regular season first place finish, while looking instead to peak for the Big Dance. And under Tom Izzo, Michigan State is notorious for not putting much emphasis on this tournament. As for the Buckeyes, they are led by All-American Jered Sullinger (16.9 ppg), Aaron Craft and William Buford. The Buckeyes fought immaturity at times this season, but still finished with a strong 25-6 record. Ohio State perhaps peaked too early in 2011 (34-3, lost in the Sweet Sixteen) but after some struggles in February, the tournament could serve as a springboard to the Big Dance.

Obviously Kentucky is the overwhelming favorite in the SEC Tourney, and despite coach John Calipari’s disdain for the tournament, if anyone else wins it will be a major upset.
"Three games in three days doesn't prepare you for anything," Calipari said Tuesday as UK began preparations for the SEC Tournament later in the week. "We just played a whole league schedule." Calipari, who has long made no secret of his lukewarm, at best, attitude about league tournaments, acknowledged how the SEC Tournament (Thursday through Sunday in New Orleans) appeals to UK fans who can't attend a game in Rupp Arena.
"Fans spend their vacation money, their rent money, their cigarette money, and they go to this tournament," Calipari said. "... You almost feel an obligation. Let's go play."
If the Cats were not head and shoulders above the rest of the league, such statements might be an automatic green light to look to fade his team. The Arena Football League has been in existence since the 1980’s, but we’ve seen quite a bit of turmoil around the league in recent years. The entire 2009 season was cancelled as the league “restructured” its finances. When the league returned in 2010, it was a merger between the AFL and their minor league franchises, from a league called AF2. Several of the smaller market teams crashed and burned – locations like Bossier, Louisiana and Huntsville, Alabama simply couldn’t draw enough support to keep the teams profitable.
In comparison to recent offseasons, the 2011-12 offseason was rather calm. No new teams entered the league. No existing teams folded. The only difference, franchise-wise, between this year and last year is that the Tulsa Talons moved to San Antonio. However, storm clouds are lurking on the horizon…clouds that could find themselves producing a downpour in a matter of days.

on how slow of a conference the SEC has become. There are 33 "conferences" according to Ken Pom – including Independents and the Great West (whatever that is). The SEC's 63.3 possessions per game ranks 29th. This after ranking first in 2009 and fifth in 2010. Below are the SEC's stats as a whole in conference play. The only thing they have to brag about is blocks – thanks in large part to a one Mr. Anthony Davis.

WAC Tournament Odds: Top seed Nevada priced as betting favorite

WAC Tournament odds courtesy of 5Dimes. The tournament takes place at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas. This year marks another change in format with all eight teams playing in the first round. Last year, the WAC experimented with a double-bye system. Prior to that, there was a No. 8 vs. No. 9 play-in game, followed by the normal eight-team format. Since 2006, no team seeded No. 5 or below has reached the finals.

Of all the major conference tournaments in play this week, the PAC-12 has the weakest field and the least fan support. It’s been a second consecutive down year for the PAC-12. Last year, the league sent only three teams to the Big Dance, all seeded #5 or higher. This year, the at-large bid situation is even worse. The PAC-12 doesn’t have a single team that is comfortably in the Big Dance, with Cal, Oregon and Washington still needing wins to secure potential bids. So while the Staples Center will be half empty for most of the weekend, in a league without a clear favorite to win the title, the PAC-12’s automatic bid from winning the conference championship title just might be the only bid this league gets in 2012.
The odds clearly show how deep this field is, and how weak the top teams truly are. Cal and Washington are the two favorites, despite both teams coming up short in their ‘must win’ games for the conference title last weekend. The Bears lost back-to-back games at Colorado and Stanford, negating their chance to win the regular season title. Meanwhile, the Huskies lost at UCLA,

. Carmelo Anthony was benched during last night's 95-85 loss at Dallas. Anthony finished the game 2-of-12 from the floor for six points. His offensive numbers while on the court with Jeremy Lin are awful. Anthony said after the game that going from being the main distributor (i.e. shot taker) to waiting for the ball to come his way has been a difficult adjustment. Overall, clearly not a good situation as the Knicks are on a 3-5 SU/ATS slide.

Don’t be fooled by Villanova’s win over Rutgers, their season is going to end today. Prior to that victory, the Wildcats were on a 2-8 SU and 1-7-1 ATS slide. South Florida (19-12, 12-6 Big East) dominated Villanova this season with their signature defense resulting in a pair of 65-51 and 74-57 wins. South Florida’s last eight games to close the Big East season saw them hold opponents to 50, 51, 45, 56, 47, 51, 48, and 51 points. The Bulls went 6-2 ATS in those games led by the league’s no. 1 scoring defense (57 ppg) and field goal defense (38%), and now face a ‘Nova offense that tied for last in the league in field goal shooting (40%). Villanova also takes plenty of long range shots, but USF holds Big East foes to just 28% shooting from the arch. Add in a rebounding advantage for the Bulls and this becomes a defensive dandy at a fair price

Worth pointing out the
injury situation
for Oklahoma State heading into tonight's Big XII Tournament first round game against Texas Tech. The only problem with a fade of the Cowboys is that the Red Raiders are really bad.
Along with Jurick, OSU has also lost Jean-Paul Olukemi (torn ACL in right knee) and Le'Bryan Nash (fractured left hand) to season-ending injuries.
Add in the two point guard departures (Fred Gulley and Reger Dowell), and there is a noticeable vacancy in production.
When healthy and present, those five players combined for 58 starts, 33.8 points per game and 18.9 rebounds this season.
On Wednesday, it will be blank across the board.

Wanted to point out this halftime box score (see below) of the Eastern Washington-Montana game. Everyone has their own philosophies for making halftime bets but I thought I'd share a few of my own as far as what I look for. For starters, I leaned Eastern Washington +10.5 as Montana's home court, while tough, is often inflated. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to watch the game – something I usually like to do when betting halftimes. But in this instance, I was very familiar with both sides and was able to track the contest using live stats.
In the first half, Montana obviously couldn't shoot straight while Eastern Washington was at 50%. This is already out of the norm as Montana defends and EWU typically does not. And this late in the season, you are what you are, especially on defense. So with five minutes to play, Eastern took an 11-point lead. It was a big moment because down 10 or more at half likely keeps me off of any 2nd half play with Montana. But the Grizzlies knocked down a shot, and a few more, and went into the break only down 5 – a nice swing in momentum which is always nice to have. But while the margin was more
