NBA Betting News: Breaking down the final week of the regular season

04.23.2012     07:24 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Update on the NBA Playoff picture with "magic numbers", probable matchups and what is at stake the final week of the regular season. The Bulls and Spurs appear destine for top seeds. Boston-Atlanta is a confirmed matchup. Milwaukee must go 3-0 and Philadelphia 0-3 for the Bucks to get in. Tuesday's Utah-Phoenix outcome is likely to determine the 8th seed in the Western Conference.

NBA Handicapping: Bulls not interested in backing off final two games

04.23.2012     07:18 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
With only two regular season games remaining, the Chicago Bulls are pretty much a lock for the top seed in the Eastern Conference (two game lead over Miami). But some of the player quotes suggest they won't be taking those final two contests (at Indiana, vs. Cleveland) lightly.

“We can’t look back,” forward Taj Gibson said. “We’ve got to keep pushing forward. We know we want to finish strong, that’s the main thing. We want the best record. What team wouldn’t want that after going so hard during this condensed season? We’re going to go after it. I know Thibs isn’t a fan of resting guys. We don’t want rest. It’s the time of the season where you can’t really rest.”

“You can control what you can control,” center Joakim Noah said. “Right now, it’s all about getting better. It’s all about getting a little momentum for the playoffs. But we know Indiana is going to come ready to play, and it will be a playoff atmosphere there. Read more

Poker informant spotted in New York

04.22.2012     07:18 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Most of you by now are familiar with the name Daniel Tzvetkoff. If not, he was one of if not the main contributor in kick starting the Black Friday/online poker disaster. Long story short, he basically turned informant in order to avoid jail time and had been off the grid since mid-2010 thanks to some assistance from the FBI. But for whatever reason, Australia's Courier-Mail recently spotted (and photographed) him and his family in New York City. When confronted by the media, Tzvetkoff first denied who he was but then later said, "Look mate, you're going to get in a lot of trouble with me right now". We're not sure if there is some movie-like bounty on this guy's head but he isn't very popular – he’s expected to play "witness" for more upcoming poker trials.

MLB Handicapping: Miami's Johnson makes positive adjustments

04.22.2012     06:53 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Miami (Johnson) -115 at Washington (Gonzalez) O/U 6.5

A positive article on Miami's Josh Johnson heading into this afternoon's game against Washington. Johnson was not sharp in his first two starts of the season (8.2 IP, 9 ERs) but allowed only two runs in seven innings last time vs. Chicago. He said that he spotted a flaw in his delivery and made the proper mechanical adjustment.

“When my timing’s off everything the past month hasn’t really felt quite there,” Johnson said. “I wasn’t really sure what it was until we went back to look at the video and saw that my hands werent breaking at the correct time and doing what I’ve always done through my career,” Johnson said, adding that after the adjustment, “I felt like I could let it go.”

MLB Betting Trends: How teams fare after being no-hit

04.22.2012     06:46 AM     Printer Friendly
Chicago's Philip Humber decided to chuck a perfect game against Seattle yesterday so we went back and pulled the data of how team's fared after having a no-hitter or perfect game (*) thrown against them. The initial thought was that embarrassment and pride would provide some sort of spark the next game. Umm, not that case as those teams went 5-12.
