MLB Betting Alert: Tampa Bay goes left-handed heavy vs. Chicago's Humber

05.29.2012     01:55 PM     Andrew Lange     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Andrew Lange

Note that Tampa Bay is slated to start eight left-handed bats vs. Chicago's Phil Humber tonight. Humber shows some pretty strong splits R vs. L this season (and for his career) as seen in the chart below. The price tag on James Shields is up to a -160 so bettors may want to look the way of Tampa's team total (4ov-111 at Pinnacle, 4ov-115 at 5Dimes).

copy_Humber_splits.JPG

Tampa Bay's projected lineup vs. Humber
1. Carlos Pena (L) .760 OPS vs. righties
2. BJ Upton (R)
3. Matt Joyce (L) 1.021 OPS vs. righties
4. Ben Zobrist (S) .797 OPS vs. righties
5. Luke Scott (L) .890 OPS vs. righties
6. Hideki Matsui (L) .840 OPS vs. righties lifetime
7. Jose Lobaton (S) No split, only 62 career at-bats
8. Drew Sutton (S) Stronger vs. lefties
9. Elliot Johnson (S) Slightly stronger vs. lefties

MLB Betting Trends: American League West games have gone UNDER at 66% clip

05.29.2012     12:15 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
This really shouldn't come as a big surprise but if you combine the O/U numbers for all four teams in the American League West, the UNDER checks in at around 59%. All four squads entered Tuesday having trended under the total. Now obviously those teams played against one another which bring us to an even stronger number. Of the 32 games (that didn't push) featuring AL West vs. AL West this season, an amazing 21 went UNDER the total (66%). While Texas ranks first in the American League in runs scored, Los Angeles ranks 10th, followed by Seattle (12th) and Oakland (14th). Meanwhile, all four teams rank among the top six in team ERA including Texas (1st, 3.27 ERA) and LA (2nd, 3.45).

Tuesday MLB Betting Free Play: Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Philadelphia (Blanton) -115 at NY Mets (Hefner) O/U 9
Recommendation: Over

The Mets and the Phillies are both for the MLB lead in Overs, each team cashing 29 so far this season.  Repeated bullpen meltdowns and a reasonably hot lineup have helped New York go 15-5-1 to the Over in its last 21 games.  That includes a 6-1-1 mark to the Over in their last eight at Citi Field; a park with a long term pitcher friendly reputation – the type of reputation that gives us a surprisingly low total to work with tonight.

The Phillies, too, are flying Over the total on a nightly basis.  They’ve pounded out 30 runs in their last five games (4-1 to the Over), including last night’s eight run outburst here in New York, enough to cash the Over in that game all by themselves.  Even the series history is all about Overs: 6-1 to the Over in the seven previous games between these two teams this year; 14-3-1 to the Over in 18 meetings against one another last Read more

MLB Betting News: Struggling Atlanta Braves face daunting June schedule

05.29.2012     08:42 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
A little over a week ago, the Atlanta Braves held a 1.5 game lead in the National League East. They're now tied for last place thanks to an eight-game losing streak. The offense has been awful (2.5 runs per game, .178 BA, .246 OBP, .578 OPS), as has the pitching (5.66 ERA). It appears to be nothing more than your typical cold streak but flipping the switch won't be easy considering the Braves' next 23 games:

vs. St. Louis (2)
at Washington (3)
at Miami (3)
vs. Toronto (3)
vs. NY Yankees (3)
vs. Baltimore (3)
at NY Yankees (3)
at Boston (3)

Stanley Cup Finals: Los Angeles Kings a -170 series favorite vs. New Jersey Devils

05.29.2012     08:22 AM     Printer Friendly
What were the odds that an eighth seed would reach the Stanley Cup Finals? How about that eighth seed being a -170 series favorite despite not having home ice advantage? That is the situation starting Wednesday as the Los Angeles Kings square off against the New Jersey in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The Kings (12-2 this postseason) are a -115 road favorite. They opened a -150 series favorite at CRIS but bet up to -170.

Check out the World Series of Poker championship bracelet

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
If you plan on winning this year's World Series of Poker, you had better do some wrist curls. The picture to your left is the championship bracelet which boasts 170 grams of 14 karat gold.

"Every jeweler gets to design earrings and necklaces and bracelets, but this is the chance to do a piece that really means something," said Jason Arasheben, president of Jason of Beverly Hills. "I wanted to pay tribute to Las Vegas, because I have a store here. They don't have a professional basketball or football team, but what says Vegas more than the World Series of Poker?"

Georgia politician once masqueraded as a sports handicapper

05.29.2012     07:56 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Georgia Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers has an interesting past. Back in the 1990's, he went by the moniker "Will the Winner", a sports handicapper selling plays via a 900-number. According to Rogers, "Will the Winner" was just a character who read from a script. The story though is deeper than a politician who once moonlighted as a "handicapper.”

"It's no different than what you see right now, today, on all sorts of NFL pregame shows, where people sit around and talk about who's going to win the game and by how much are they going to win," Rogers told investigative reporter Jodie Fleischer.

"No, the company who hired me, gave me a script and I would read from the script or use the script as the basic outline of what I'm supposed to say," Rogers replied.

MLB Gambling Notes: Halladay's shoulder examined, Ruiz out with hamstring injury

05.29.2012     07:25 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Just when things started to turn around, the Philadelphia Phillies were hit fairly hard by the injury bug. Roy Halladay will have his shoulder examined today after leaving his last start. Catcher Carlos Ruiz, who has arguably been the team's best offensive player (.366/1.010,) is expected to miss tonight's game with a bum hamstring. The Phillies are 11-5 (4.9 runs per game) since May 13.

Milwaukee (Fiers) at LA Dodgers (Eovaldi) -125 O/U 7.5

Following his worst outing of the season (3.1 IP, 8 ERs) Los Angeles lefty Ted Lilly was placed on the DL with shoulder inflammation. The Dodgers called up Nathan Eovaldi from Double-A. Eovaldi started six games last season with a 3.63 ERA and 23-20 K-to-BB ratio.

Handicapper Teddy Covers talks NFL Regular Season Over/Under Win Totals

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
When I first moved to Las Vegas just prior to the start of the preseason in August 1998, NFL season win totals were just starting to pop up around town. By the early 2000’s, most sportsbooks in Vegas were posting NFL win totals by the time training camps opened in late July. Over the past five years, we’ve seen those NFL win totals get posted earlier and earlier – first early July, then June.

Here in 2012, the markets move earlier and more aggressively than ever. Some offshore sportsbooks posted win totals for the upcoming season within days of the Giants victory over the Patriots in the Super Bowl; albeit with very low limits. And here in Las Vegas, it was Christmas in May this past week when three major players – Cantor Gaming, MGM-Mirage and LVH – all released their 2012 NFL Regular Season Over/Under Win totals, with limits high enough to attract a nice chunk of wiseguy money.

Cantor was the first to market, and releasing their NFL win totals last Wednesday. As the first local shop to post numbers, with relatively high limits ($3K) that cater to sharp bettors, the action was fast and furious on the trading floor (or the betting Read more
