I'll Have Another out of the Belmont

06.08.2012     09:00 AM     Printer Friendly

Horse racing has lost another Triple Crown candidate and the race and sports books probably lose a ton of betting interest...

I'll Have Another will not run in Saturday's Belmont Stakes, trainer Doug O'Neill said Friday on the "Dan Patrick Show."

O'Neill said the Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner has a "little problem" in his left hind leg.

I'll Have Another was set to attempt to become the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.

The New York Racing Association has called a 1 p.m. ET news conference on the matter.

I'll Have Another favored to win Belmont Stakes

MLB Gambling Trends: American League dominates interleague play

06.08.2012     07:57 AM         Printer Friendly
Submitted by

Interleague play continues from June 8 through June 24, 2012 and the American League (AL) looks to continue their dominance over the National League (NL). Interleague play was introduced in 1997, and since 2004 the American League has dominated the senior circuit and posted a winning record every year. In those eight seasons, the AL is 1128-927 with over $10,000 in profit for a $100 bettor. Last season the AL went 134-125 vs. the NL but was a losing betting proposition overall yet AL home teams showed a slight profit. In 2012, the AL is 24-18 vs. the NL during May Interleague play.

A rare role in which you’ll find an American League team is a big road underdog vs. a National League opponent. They have been big profit producers during their 8-year run as +150 or more while also showing a winning record overall. On Friday, June 8 the Toronto Blue Jays are a +155 road ‘Dog at Atlanta.

In the opening series weekend beginning June 8, there are six match-ups in which the teams have played at least 10 times, including the subway series between the New York Yankees and New York Mets.

The Yankees are 25-22 vs. the Mets

MLB Interleague Betting Free Pick: Chicago Cubs at Minnesota Twins

Chicago (Wood) at Minnesota (Walters) -135 O/U 8.5
Recommendation: Twins

Interleague play begins today and there is nothing sweeter than American League teams on their home field. It is known that I have been cashing tickets with the Minnesota Twins for the past two weeks backing this club during a favorable part of their schedule and taking advantage of some of the young arms filling into the rotation. One of those young pitchers, PJ Walters, takes the mound tonight against the lowly Chicago Cubs as a small favorite and certainly within backing range again here. Walters by no means has been pitching lights out since he has been inserted into the rotation, but he has been able to get the big out when needed. The Twins give him plenty of run support during his starts. Chicago comes into Minnesota losing 13 of their last 14 games on the road. Don't look for any improvement here tonight from the Cubs as Minnesota once again cashes a ticket for us.

MLB Handicapper Free Pick: Atlanta Braves at Miami Marlins

Atlanta (Minor) at Miami (Buehrle)
Recommendation: Miami Over 4 Team Total

Adding to our previous blog post that touched on Miami’s success against left-handed pitching: The Marlins bats have been held down in two consecutive games but we’ll call for them to come alive here tonight against Mike Minor. The Braves left hander has been dreadful this season and has allowed at least four runs in six consecutive trips to the mound. He features a 7.27 ERA away from home and despite the spacious dimensions of this new park in Miami this is playing like a hitters field. As we saw a couple of weeks ago the Marlins match up well against Minor; they had nine base runners on in less than five innings against him, scoring six runs before he was yanked.

That shouldn’t be a surprise as Miami has dominated the left handers of late. They’ve won nine straight against left handed starters, defeating Cole Hamels, Madison Bumgarner, Jamie Moyer, Mike Minor, Jon Niese, Read more

MLB Handicapping: Five home runs helps back-to-back games at Petco go OVER

06.07.2012     06:44 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
When a game goes over the total at Petco Park is usually isn't by much and rarely do we see two teams combine for double-digit runs. But the last two contests – against the weak hitting San Francisco Giants – have each produced 11 runs. And on five occasions during those two games the ball managed to leave the playing field in fair territory. There is a theory among bettors that Petco Park plays a bit more realistic during stretches when the "marine layer" isn't as strong. According to one explanation, this tends to happen during the day and later in the season. Just something to consider when playing Padres totals.

“In the simplest terms, when you’re close to the water, there’s more moisture in the air and the air is cooler,” said Miller. “The air becomes less dense with water in it, lighter than typical air molecules, so the ball can fly farther in the moister air. But when the marine layer moves in, like a big blob of cold air pouring over the stadium walls and onto the field, the air is more

MLB Betting Recap: Detroit's defense continues to have negative impact

06.07.2012     06:16 AM     Printer Friendly
It's been said multiple times that due to a horrific defense, Detroit will have to hit its way to an American League Central title. Last night, part of the plan worked as the Tigers put up six runs but a costly first inning error allowed the Indians to jump out to a 3-0 lead en route to a 9-6 victory. Cleveland has now won all five meetings this season.

Top 1st: Cleveland
- S. Choo singled to right
- A. Cabrera flied out to shallow left center
- J. Kipnis flied out to deep center
- C. Santana safe at first on right fielder B. Boesch's fielding error, S. Choo to third
- M. Brantley homered to deep right, S. Choo and C. Santana scored
- J. Damon grounded out to first

“When you talk to evaluators about them and what’s wrong with them and what has to change, the first thing you hear is that they’re a terrible defensive team,” Olney said (and this was before Brendan Boesch’s first-inning error Wednesday night). “But we kind of knew that
