Bettors should expect to see Texas' Roy Oswalt toe the rubber soon. The Rangers have yet to announce a specific date but with the
current state of the rotation
(Feliz, Holland and Ogando all on the DL) it likely won't be long. Oswalt has made four minor league starts including a
100-pitch outing
for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

on the change in defensive philosophy taking place in the AFC East. At one time, virtually everyone ran a 3-4 system but the 4-3 now seems to be the weapon of choice. Clayton thinks the switch will become more common throughout the league over the next few years.

But there are an endless amount of factors that must also be considered – a topic we will certainly cover in-depth as the football season nears. As spring turns into summer here in Las Vegas and the NBA Playoffs wind down, the upcoming football season begins to attract more and more betting attention. Last month we saw NFL season win totals hit the betting boards around town, drawing a significant initial flurry of heavy wiseguy money. And this past week, we saw another clear sign that football is just around the corner, as the Golden Nugget released their lines on more than 110 Games of the Year.
The Nugget is not generally a hotbed of wiseguy betting activity, but their sportsbook takes center stage as the first place to post college football game pointspreads around this time every year. Last year, the book wrote more than $200,000 in handle on the very first day the college football lines were posted. This year, the volume of bets was a little bit slower for several reasons.
First, in 2011, the book opened their college football numbers at noon on Friday, and the place was packed right from the get-go. This year, the numbers opened at 10 AM on a Monday, resulting in slow and steady action as opposed to the fast and furious action we saw last year.

MLB Betting News: Matt Cain's pitch counts up over last three starts

San Francisco's Matt Cain makes his first start (at LA Angels) following
last week's perfect game
against Houston. Cain threw a season-high 125 pitches and has now racked of 358 pitches over his last three outings. Cain has shown little decline following high-pitch count games throughout his career.
"It's in your mind, obviously," Cain said Sunday. "But I'm not going to think about that. It's a hard thing to duplicate. ... Same as normal. We don't get in the 120s that often, but we do it once in a while."

MLB Gambling: Updated odds to win division titles

Pinnacle is offering Yes/No odds to win the six MLB Divisions. The best value on the board appears to be the Washington Nationals at +118 to win the National League East. The Nationals currently have a four-game lead over Atlanta – a lead that could easily be increased with the Braves in the Bronx for a three-game set followed by three more in Boston. The Nats will need to get creative with Strasburg and Zimmermann in terms of workload but Detwiler is a viable spot starter. Note also that the last three weeks of the season, the Braves, Mets and Marlins play a lot of games against one another while the Nationals play Milwaukee, St. Louis and Philadelphia – the Phillies are an amazing nine games back.

FanGraphs breaks down the American League's continued
dominance
over the National League. Heading into today, only one AL team has a losing record (Cleveland 4-8) vs. the NL.
The AL and NL have squared off in 168 of the 252 scheduled games so far, and the whippersnappers in the American League have pounded their senior circuit brethren. The current totals: 96 wins for the AL, 72 for the NL, good for a .571 winning percentage. It isn’t just a few close games going the AL’s way either, as they’ve outscored the NL 776 to 659.
If you take the Nationals, Dodgers, and Reds out of the picture, the NL is 54-84, a .391 winning percentage.

If the New York Yankees win the American League East, they had better send thank you cards to the entire National League East. The Bronx Bombers just ripped off

Interleague wins and did so in dominating fashion, outscoring the opposition 46-19. The pitching staff dropped its seasonal ERA from 3.94 to 3.63. The good news is the Yankees still have six games remaining against the NL East starting tonight at home against Atlanta.

MLB Betting Notes: Bravers send Beachy to DL, recall Jurrjens

Atlanta's Brandon Beachy will hit the
15-day DL
with what they are calling a sore elbow (MRI today). Beachy had his
last start pushed back
and then lasted only 3.2 innings on Saturday before being pulled. Jair Jurrjens will be recalled to take Beachy's place. The Braves could also eventually work Kris Medlen and Julio Teheran into the rotation at some point.
"I'm hoping it's bone spurs still," Beachy said. "It's time to find out for sure, so that's what we're going to do."
Gonzalez said "I don't expect the worst" from Beachy's MRI.
"I expect in 15 days he'll be ready to go," Gonzalez said. "There are plenty of pitchers who have pitched with (bone spurs). That will settle down a little bit."

wasn't lying
when he called out his book publisher for stiffing him on some profits. Now he can go back to picking – but not betting on! – winners.
"The lady made my life a living hell and basically tortured me through the press by putting fictitious stories out there," Donaghy said Sunday. "I knew, at some point, my time would come. And my time was Friday."
"I watch a lot of these games and advise him," Donaghy said. "If the lines are way out of whack, I'll have a conversation with him."
