MLB Betting News: Kansas City's Sanchez struggling with all facets of the game

06.30.2012     08:21 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Kansas City (Sanchez) at Minnesota (Diamond) -140 O/U 9.5

If you want to get inside the head of Kansas City's Jonathan Sanchez, here is your chance. He opens up about his recent struggles and unfortunately, makes it tough for bettors to buy in to some sort of turnaround in the near future.

“It's just not working for me right now,” he said. “It's a slump. That's what it is. A slump. Everyone goes through it.

“I'm pitching the same. It's just not working.”

“I don't look at the speed,” Sanchez said, shaking his head. “Speed doesn't get guys out.

“It's about luck. There's been some bad luck. I don't think speed is the problem right now.”

“I never think about that,” he said. “Going to Read more

MLB Gambling Notes: Boston's Josh Beckett back after shoulder issues

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Boston (Beckett) -140 at Seattle (Ramirez) O/U 7.5

Hey look! Josh Beckett is back and, what? He's a -140 road favorite? That doesn't seem right, especially for a guy who had two starts skipped due to a weakened right shoulder. Bobby V. seems to think he’ll be alright. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

“If he’s healthy, I expect a good performance, and it seems like he’s very healthy,” Sox manager Bobby Valentine said. “Has good spirits. Josh is a great pitcher. I expect him to go out there and give us a good outing.”

MLB Betting Notes: Safeco Field playing even more pitcher-friendly in 2012

06.29.2012     02:05 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
An informative (yet very exhausting) breakdown of the lack of offensive production at Seattle's Safeco Field this season courtesy of FanGraphs. Bettors were already aware of its pitcher-friendly tendencies but check out these numbers:

Mariners batters at home: 5.3% doubles, 0.4% triples, 2.2% home runs
Mariners batters on road: 6.5% doubles, 0.6% triples, 4.1% home runs

Mariners opponents at home: 4.0% doubles, 0.4% triples, 2.9% home runs
Mariners opponents on road: 7.0% doubles, 0.6% triples, 5.5% home runs

Totals at Safeco heading into today were 15-20 O/U.

Shady sportsbooks, prison terms, politicians, bookies and the Boston Red Sox

06.29.2012     07:54 AM     Printer Friendly
We would imagine that after a sentencing hearing, the guilty party is probably not in the best of moods. Alright, I'm already going to prison so I might as well give the judge the finger, tell my cheating ex-wife to go to hell, and rat out as many people as I can. The latter is what occurred when US Rep. John F. Tierney's brother-in-law was sentenced to three years for operating and illegal sportsbook. Daniel Eremian boasted that Tierney knew everything and even watched a Red Sox game with the bookies. Hey, we're all for calling out dirty politicians but didn't Eremian spend a boatload of time denying everything? Now he’s saying Tierney was well aware of all of the illegal things that took place? Boy, this is a tough one. Do we believe the politician or the guy running a shady offshore sportsbook 98% of bettors have never even hear of? Seriously, this is a tough one.

“He knew everything that was going on,” said Daniel Eremian, whose sister, Patrice, is married to Tierney. “He sat in the boxes with Read more

MLB Handicapper Free Pick: Boston Red Sox at Seattle Mariners

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Boston (Cook) at Seattle (Noesi)
Recommendation: Boston -115 1st 5 innings

Despite failing to post a single strikeout in his last start, Boston's Aaron Cook was pleased with the performance.

“Actually, I felt a lot sharper than I did my last outing down in Pawtucket,” he said.  “So actually kind of surprised. But my sinker was working, my cutter was working, and me and [catcher Kelly Shoppach] got into a great rhythm early and just keep going.”

Cook reportedly added a cutter to his repertoire and it helped him induce 13 groundballs. Unlike most pitchers, it is Cook's groundball rate (rather than strikeout rate) that is the key in measuring whether or not he's in good form.

On the surface, it looks like Seattle's Hector Noesi is your typical home/road Read more

MLB Gambling News: San Francisco Giants record four straight shutouts

06.29.2012     06:39 AM     Printer Friendly
The San Francisco Giants have posted four straight shutouts and moved into sole possession of first place in the National League West. Barry Zito, Ryan Vogelsong, Tim Linecum, Madison Bunmbarner and a handful of relievers combined for 36 innings, 17 hits, 10 walks and 28 strikeouts. The team's ERA dropped from 3.55 to 3.37. Even more crazy is the fact that their best pitcher, Matt Cain, had nothing to do with the remarkable run (he'll start tonight vs. Cincinnati).
