Poker player jumped outside Vegas club following second place WSOP tourney finish

07.05.2012     06:19 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Not cool. Following Sam Trickett's second place finish at the World Series of Poker's 'The Big One For One Drop" event he was reportedly roughed up by six dudes outside of a Las Vegas club. He obviously didn't have the $6.5 million is winnings on his person and his girlfriend later claimed it wasn't that big of a deal outside of Trickett getting his face worked over.

“Was having a great day until 6 guys did this to me. Seriously Wtf? Couldn’t be more angry… #cowards.”

“Is this what happens if ur successful? literally beat the shit out of me and spat in @NatashaSandhu face all over nothing.”

MLB Gambling News: Texas' Harrison continue to produce ace-like numbers

07.05.2012     05:52 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Texas (Harrison) -130 at Chicago WS (Quintana) O/U 10

If you were going to name a mid-season pitching MVP for the Rangers, Matt Harrison would be at the top of the list. With all of the injuries to the rest of the staff, Harrison has done nothing but take the ball 16 times and put up these rock solid numbers: 11-3, 3.16 ERA, 1.24 WHIP. And he's hardly doing it with smoke and mirrors. As FanGraphs points out, prior to David Price's start against the Yankees yesterday, check out his numbers matched up against Harrison's over the last two years:

Harrison: 291 IP, 3.31 ERA, 3.48 FIP, 3.86 xFIP, 6.8 WAR
Price: 329 IP, 3.31 ERA, 3.35 FIP, 3.31 xFIP, 6.7 WAR

MLB Handicapping: Red hot Mat Latos returns to San Diego

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Cincinnati (Latos) -135 at San Diego (Volquez) O/U 6.5

Is Mat Latos finally getting it? It appears so after back-to-back 1-run complete games in which Latos allowed just six hits and struck out 20. Tonight he returns to his old stomping ground as a medium-sized road favorite.

"I think the main thing is is we're exactly on the same page as far as what we want to do," Hanigan said. "We're really getting into a good tempo. I think we trust each other. I think we know what our plan is. There's no guessing, there's no indecision.

"And he's attacking. He's getting into good counts. When he's not in good counts, he doesn't let it get away from him -- not a lot 2-0s, 3-1s. He's always in the count. He's got a 94 mph fastball. It makes his offs-peed stuff that much tougher."

4th of July Betting Free Play: Baltimore Orioles at Seattle Mariners

Baltimore (Tillman) -105 at Seattle (Noesi) O/U 8
Recommendation: Baltimore

I've been playing against Seattle Hector Noesi in some capacity for much of the season. Nearly every number I use to determine the true quality of a starting pitcher tells me that Noesi is one of the worst in baseball. His lone saving grace – at least on the surface – is a respectable 3.86 ERA at home. But take a look at his FIP and xFIP and you'll notice his performances at home aren't too far removed from what he's done on the road (7.42 ERA). Baltimore calls up Charles Tillman for a spot start. His career numbers are not very good (5.58 ERA in 180.2 IP) but he's simply not built to handle the rigors of the American League East every fifth day. He is however capable of showing up at Safeco and keeping the Mariners in check. I'm supporting the road side in this one.
