offense's approach
for tonight's game against the Bengals.
“It’s going to be vanilla,” he told reporters Wednesday. “We didn’t plan at all here”
“I would say that they would probably play a quarter — maybe somewhere in that range or a play-count,” he said. “If we felt like we did some good things here and we got 12 to 15 plays in, then we will probably see where we are at that point.”

I cashed an Under ticket in the first meeting earlier this season between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Edmonton Eskimos in a low scoring 17-1 win for Saskatchewan and I see a similar game unfolding here in the Week 7 rematch tonight.
You could easily say that Saskatchewan has played 18 out of 20 quarters of stellar defense in its first five games. They allowed just 16, 1, and 20 points in their first three games of the season. In their last two games, they had allowed just 14 points to Hamilton and 18 to Calgary after three quarters before the roof caved in defensively in the 4th quarter of both games. It led to consecutive blown double-digit leads and the Roughriders dropped from 3-0 to 3-2. Head coach Cory Chamblin preached to his team throughout their bye week how they needed to learn how to finish games particularly on the defensive side of the football and I would expect the Roughriders to give a tremendous effort on defense for the full 60 minutes against an anemic offense that they already have shut down.

“I told them to be ready to play however long I needed them,” Crennel said. “I didn’t know how long that might be. The only consideration will be if there’s someone who might have a little nagging injury or something like that, I may take that into consideration and not give them as much playing time.
“I want them to get ready to play. I don’t want them going into the game thinking, ‘OK, I’m going to come out after the first quarter’ or ‘I’m only going to play a series.’ Just be ready to play, and we’ll see how long it is.’’

Good news. The NFL just gave the thumbs up to gambling! OK, not exactly. But they stepped in and said (we're paraphrasing) that
groundbreaking replacement referee Shannon Eastin
isn’t corrupt and likely won't fix tonight’s Green Bay-San Diego game despite her participation in the World Series of Poker. It was the NFL Referees Association – AKA, the dudes on strike, who probably aren't big fans of the fill-ins – who brought the non-issue to light.

There are a handful of standard recommendations on how to approach wagering on NFL Preseason games.
1. Check for quarterback depth.
2. Find ATS results on the head coaches to determine which ones care about winning which ones don’t.
3. Look for teams with heated quarterback battles.
4. Dig for information on what a head coach’s intentions are in each contest.
5. Be aware of first-year head coaches placing extra emphasis on games because they are trying to instill a winning attitude.
All of those are extremely important but also universally known by anyone who considers themselves of serious bettor.
In this piece I’m going to add one more angle that I like to look for in addition to the above checklist. The preseason can be a very “vanilla” time of year as coaching staffs more often than not choose to reveal very little about their playbooks. With the exception of the Week 3 dress rehearsal game, most head coaches are evaluating personnel and not strategically game planning for opponents. Last year, in John Fox’s first season at the helm in Denver, the Broncos got hot down the stretch, in large part due to some Tim Tebow magic, and won the division with an 8-8 record (7-9 ATS, 9-7 to the Over). They faced a schedule that was right around the league average in terms of toughness, yet were outgained by 0.4 yards per play while finishing -12 in turnovers.
2012 Issues:
Fox returns as the head coach, as does offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, but the Broncos have a new defensive coordinator; former Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio. Del Rio served at the same position under Fox in Carolina prior to his ascension in Jacksonville.
But nobody in Denver is talking about the coaching staff – they’re talking about Peyton Manning. Manning is 36 years old, coming off a lost season and four neck surgeries. Sure, in the regular season, these two offenses would likely be more than capable of lighting up the scoreboard. But here in the preseason, there’s absolutely no reason to expect a high octane shootout.
Green Bay’s defense was nothing short of awful last year, struggling to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks and come up with key third down stops on defense. In fact, the Packers ranked dead last defensively in the NFL, allowing a league high 299.8 passing yards per game and a league high 411.6 total yards per game. What do you think the Packers spent the offseason and training camp concentrating on?

PNC Park has been a cash cow for UNDERS this season at 16-34-2 O/U. The Pirates had a big offensive surge from mid-June to mid-July that saw then average over six runs per game. They've since come back down to earth, averaging about four runs over their last 19 games. And during that stretch, the scores at PNC Park have been extremely low with outputs of 7, 6, 3, 2, 6, 5, 4, 14 and 13. Note that the last two games were aided by unearned runs and a few bullpen meltdowns. The lefty vs. lefty matchup at PNC Park is one that I have been consistently betting UNDER the last few years. Game 1 of this series featured southpaws Wade Miley and Erik Bedard and the end result was just four runs. Wandy Rodriguez has thrown back-to-back quality starts since coming over from Houston. that was run by her husband. Is the incident interesting? A little bit. But it really takes a back seat to the crazy amount of illegal gambling clichés that get nailed in the story.
