It’s difficult to write off Boise State in this contest as a +7 underdog. All they’ve done over the seven year tenure of head coach Chris Petersen is produce a 73-6 record. Keep in mind they’ve also beaten Oregon, Virginia Tech and Georgia in their last three season openers. Of course, the immense question in this clash is what Boise will bring to the table after huge losses on both sides of the football. No question, this is a much, much different team than at any time under Petersen. College Football Gambling Trends: How team fare without a bye week

Revisiting a blog from last year that tracked the results of college football teams without a bye week during the regular season. The theory is that these teams will eventually wear down both physically and mentally. The results (last three games SU and ATS) aren’t mind-blowing, but the 37% SU winning percentage does stands out. Note that in 2009, virtually the entire Big Ten didn’t have a bye so the numbers are somewhat skewed with “none bye teams” often playing one another. If you completely eliminate the ’09 Big Ten, the overall numbers are even stronger at 23-49 SU and 30-41-1 ATS.
Like most of our studies, we aren’t necessarily looking for a formula to bet blind – they rarely if ever exist. Rather, we find schedule situations that can put teams at an advantage or disadvantage. In the case of not having a bye week, it certainly isn’t helpful and a factor worth adding to your handicap.
Some schools (marked with asterisks) had their bye in Week 1 and played continuously for the remainder of the season. We included them because it really doesn’t serve as an advantage.

, there is a chance New England's starters could see some time tonight against the Giants.
“Yeah, he was big on those game-plan scenarios,” Evans said of Belichick. “But Bill’s Bill. Nothing ever surprises me. So I would expect (the starters) to play some.”
“Absolutely,” Evans said. “Bill wants to fix problems. So I would expect him to play the guys, let them work out what he wants them to work out. You still have Friday, Saturday, Sunday (to) rest. He can rest them like they had a bye week.”

for their Week 1 opener against Bowling Green. Head coach Will Muschamp said either Jacoby Brissett or Jeff Driskel will play the first quarter while the other will play the second quarter. At halftime, the coaching staff will reevaluate the situation. Muschamp said he's not concerned with the QB position but bettors should be, especially if you missed -23 on the opener and are considering laying the current price of -29. When a coach can't commit to one quarterback it more often than not means none of the candidates were good enough to earn the job.

I put all 16 NFL preseason games on my DVR each week and I watch every first half to see how the guys who are likely to see the field in the regular season are progressing. Now that three full weeks of preseason action are in the books, let’s take a look at my personal assessment of some noteworthy squads based on the “eye test”, not on meaningless August stats.
Buffalo Bills:
I can understand why this defensive line got so many accolades this past offseason – the Bills are playing five different guys who have led their team in sacks at least once. Bottom line is this team has a monster front four pass rush without the need for a bevy of blitzes to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks. But that pass rush was about the only thing they did right. I saw poor effort from the linebackers and poor coverage downfield. Their man-to-man coverage frankly didn't work. And the $59 million dollar man, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, absolutely stunk up the joint for the second straight week! This team wasn't ready. Since that time, Cleveland is a woeful 10-32, falling 16.5 games back in the AL Central. My clients and I have been betting against the Indians at every reasonable opportunity in recent weeks.
