NHL Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Washington Capitals at Pittsburgh Penguins

Washington -130 at Pittsburgh O/U 5.5
Recommendaton: Washington

Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinals goes tonight as the Washington Capitals look to even the series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Game 3 was one of the most dramatic games of this postseason with the Capitals winning 3-2 in overtime. An early hit on Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby delivered by defenseman Matt Niskanen proved to be large for both clubs. Niskanen was given a 5-minute major for and a game misconduct for his high cross-check hit. Crosby then left the contest for concussion protocol which he eventually failed and is now ruled out for this contest. "Sid the Kid" has had concussion issues in the past and losing their top scorer, along with another key forward in Conor Sheary who is out with a head injury suffered when colliding with teammate Patric Hornqvist midway through Game 3, should provide a huge boost to Washington. The Caps also will have Niskanen back as he wasn't suspended by the league. Great opportunity for the road side to even the series before returning home. Lay the moderate chalk with Washington.

MLB Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Baltimore Orioles at Boston Red Sox

Baltimore (Gausman) at Boston (Pomeranz) -145 O/U 9
Recommendation: Over

Baltimore's Kevin Gausman hasn't had the easiest of slates so far with two games against the Yankees, a start in Cincinnati, and three against the Blue Jays at Red Sox. But there's no denying the amount of red flags. Gausman's strikeout rate has down nearly 3 per nine and his walk rate is an alarming 5.1. And over his last three starts he's coughed up six home runs. Gausman's velocity has been good throughout but he's introduced a slider that hasn't worked (.421 BA against) and his go-to pitch, the splitter, has been just as ineffective (.684 SLG against). In the end, a start in Fenway isn't ideal for a bounceback effort. Meanwhile, Drew Pomeranz appears healthy and thus capable with a 27-7 K-to-BB ratio over 21.2 innings. But I have my concerns with this being his third turn against the Orioles. He's fared well in the previous two starts (11.1 IP, 3 ERs, 10 Ks) but also allowed 22 fly balls and 12 line drives. First two games of the series went under but expect a different result tonight. Play it over.

MLB Handicapping: Atlanta's SunTrust Park giving up the long ball

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The sample size is small but Atlanta's new SunTrust Park appears to be playing smaller than Turner Field. With 23 home runs hit in only nine games the park's AB/HR ratio (25.9) is significantly lower than previous years. Games are averaging 9.8 runs though only five of the nine contests went over the total.

MLB Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks at Washington Nationals

Arizona (Walker) at Washington (Roark) -135 O/U 8.5
Recommendation: Washington

Two of the top four most profitable teams in MLB square off tonight in our nation’s capital when the Washington Nationals host the Arizona Diamondbacks. The DBacks have enjoyed a very home friendly schedule thus far with 17 games at Chase Field and only 10 on the highway. Important to note that the 10 road games were in California meaning tonight marks the first real travel spot of the season. And they’ll do so against one of the hottest team in MLB. The Nationals currently boast the best offensive numbers in MLB, leading the league with .295/.369/.510 splits. That could spell trouble for Arizona’s Taijuan Walker who thus far has had a fairly soft slate of foes with San Diego, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Tanner Roark fits a solid profile of being tough on right handers and also flashing some incredible home splits: 2.83 ERA over 286 career innings. Roark doesn’t command as much respect in the betting markets as Scherzer and Strasburg despite the Nationals posting a 24-14 record with him on the hill dating back to last year. Read more

Kentucky Derby Betting: Always Dreaming current favorite at 5-1

05.02.2017     12:00 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The 143rd Kentucky Derby goes Saturday and Always Dreaming is the current favorite at 5-1. The colt however has had issues leading up to the race. Classic Empire and Gunnevera are both 6-1 while Irish War Cry is 7-1.

“The reason I don’t like what I’ve seen is the way he’s been galloping in the morning, it makes you think he’s not going to be able to relax,” said NBC analyst Donna Barton Brothers, the former jockey. “He did buck a couple of times down the backside (Monday). ... That’s not the sort of thing you want to see leading up to the Derby, and this close to the Derby.”
