MLB Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Cincinnati Reds at Miami Marlins

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Cincinnati (Stephenson) at Miami (O'Grady) -130 O/U 9.5
Recommendation: Miami

The Cincinnati Reds are a dead nuts bet-against team right now, a hopeless squad that has thrown in the towel on the 2017 campaign. Cinci opened the second half with a 2-8 homestand. They’ve gone 0-3 since hitting the highway, losing all three games in non-competitive fashion, by multi-run margins.

Quotes like this one from manager Bryan Price don’t inspire much confidence from this bettor – his entire focus is on evaluating talent for next year, not winning games this year: “These last 10 weeks are very important because I think we have to have a vision of what our starting rotation is going to look like in 2018, but we have to have that vision in 2017. I think it's going to be very difficult to come in and say, talk about, being really competitive if the vision isn't — if we don't know what 2018 is going to look like, at least from the outset.”

The Reds pitching staff is in shambles, bad news against a Marlins team that just pounded out a season high 22 runs last night in Texas. The Reds starters have Read more

College Football Gambling: Ohio State expected to pick up tempo under OC Wilson

07.27.2017     08:23 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Good article on the change in tempo expected to take place at Ohio State this season with former Indiana head coach Kevin Wilson taking over as offensive coordinator.

“I think at times we got away from [tempo], and it’s part of who we are,” quarterback J.T. Barrett said Thursday.

“It’s not like you’re frantic,” he said. “It’s no different than playing up-tempo basketball. You still have to execute. You can’t throw it away. What you try to do is get in a rhythm and get the defense on their heels to get those guys maybe not doing as much, but you still have to execute.

“You don’t want to rush, but you want to go fast. It’s learning how to play within yourself at a reasonable tempo.”

College Football Handicapping: Illinois offense will lean on run-first quarterback

07.26.2017     08:20 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
New quarterback and a new-look offense for Illinois this season as second year head coach Lovie Smith announced Chayce Crouch as the team's starting quarterback. Crouch has been with the program for four years, gone through three coaches and attempted only 65 passes. His claim to fame is an ability to run the football. Crouch racked up 137 yards on 17 carries in last year's loss (LOL!) to Purdue. Here's a good article on what bettors can expect from Illinois' offense this season including perhaps a faster tempo.

In just over two quarters of play, Crouch was 10-for-14 passing for 142 yards to go along with 17 carries for 137 yards and two scores. He used his bulldozing style of running (with his 6-foot-4, 230-pound frame) to become Illinois' diet-diet-diet version of Tim Tebow for one afternoon in October.

After scoring just six points before Lunt's injury, the Illini tallied 25 points with Crouch at the helm and rushed for a staggering 315 yards as a team on the day. Crouch's, and
