NFL Preseason Gambling: Texans begin process of figuring out who will play quarterback

Houston Texans head coach Bill O'Brien discussed what he wants from his team -- particularly quarterbacks -- during tonight's preseason opener at Carolina. The Texans have taken a fair amount of money; bet from +3 to pick 'em at many offshore sportsbooks. Under O'Brien, the Texans are 8-4 ATS and 3-9 O/U in the preseason.

NBA Handicapping: League schedule changes forces bettors to adjust

Depending on who you ask, changes to the NBA's league-wide schedule could be a good or bad thing for bettors. The "good" is that the league is trying to create more situations where teams are rested meaning less chance for those infuriating late afternoon scratches to key players. The "bad" is that there will be less opportunity to take advantage of wore down teams and players, especially on the second night of back-to-backs.


Eliminating stretches of four games in five days and 18 games in 30 days.


Reduction of five games in seven nights to just 40 instances across (1.3 per team), down from last year when it was on the schedule 90 times (three per team).

Reduction in number of back-to-backs to 14.9 per team, down from 16.3 per team. In all, 40 back-to-backs have been eliminated from last season.

NFL Preseason Betting: 49ers to give starters extended look

There's work to be done in San Francisco with new management and head coach. General manager John Lynch said that the team's starters will see more playing time than usual during the team's preseason opener at Kansas City. The Chiefs are currently -4 home chalk.

NFL Preseason Gambling: Green Bay's offense should thrive with Hundley under center

Two years ago, Green Bay rookie quarterback Brett Hundley posted big numbers during the preseason (630 yards, 7 TDs, 1 INT). Last season, he barely played due to a bum ankle. Hundley is now healthy and slated to start Green Bay's preseason opener on Thursday vs. Philadelphia. Without Hundley, the Packers went under the total in all four preseason games last year. In two preseason games in 2015 in which Hundley took a majority of the snaps, Green Bay scored 26 and 38 points which both games flying over the total.


Asked what he’s looking for from Hundley, Van Pelt said, “Operating within the system, making the checks that he needs to make, any protection adjustments that need to be made. And then after that, just the rhythm of the feet and staying in his time clock and working progressions. I think he’s done a really good job of that. You knew at some point there was going to be Floyd Mayweather money, especially after all of the talk about the "public" reportedly betting the shit out of Conor McGregor. Note that one Las Vegas sportsbook director hints that if you like Floyd, you may be able to get around -500 closer to fight night.

St. Louis' Michael Wacha has somewhat flown under the radar this season as he continues to hover between elite and very good NL starter. Of late, he's been elite and some with a sick stat line over his last six starts: 36.2 IP, 42 Ks, 8 BBs, 1.96 ERA. On the season, Wacha is right at a strikeout per inning and keeps the ball on the ground more often than not with only 11 home runs allowed. And while some may feel pitching in the American League park will mark a step up in class, the Royals are a very manageable offense. Kansas City put together a recent nine-game winning streak that put them in "contention" in the AL Central. But outside of that small sample (7.4 runs per game), this team and more importantly, offense, has been well below league average. Offensively, the Royals rank dead last in the AL in wRC+ (88). It's a low walk rate, low on-base pct. outfit that will be without the services of one of it's better offensive weapons with Salvador Perez currently on the DL.
