College Football Gambling Preview: UCLA Bruins at Memphis Tigers

UCLA at Memphis
Saturday, 9 am PT
CRIS Opener: UCLA-4.5 O/U 72
CRIS Current: UCLA -3 O/U 72
Recommendation: Memphis

The scoreboard results look decent for UCLA, with a 2-0 mark to open the season. Josh Rosen has put up some huge numbers, throwing for 820 yards with nine touchdowns and zero interceptions against Texas A&M and Hawaii. And yet, despite those monster stats from Rosen, the Bruins have all the makings of a bet-against team in early start TV action on Saturday.

Let’s start with this: Rosen has zero interceptions only because Texas A&M dropped the ball, with Rosen every bit as lucky as he was good in the Aggies late defensive meltdown. And we need to note the miserable spot here for the Bruins. They’ve got a major revenge matchup with Stanford on deck, coming off a remarkable comeback and an easy blowout. This game reeks of a legitimate flat spot for the road favorite, especially when we consider the noon Eastern Time start – that’s 9 AM on the body clocks for the kids from the West Coast.

College Football Betting Preview: Tulane Green Wave at Oklahoma Sooners

Tulane at Oklahoma
Saturday, 3 pm PT
CRIS Opener: Oklahoma -34 O/U 57
CRIS Current: Oklahoma -35.5 O/U 54.5
Recommendation: Tulane

I cashed a winning free play here in the blog last week on the Tulane Green Wave in their spread covering loss as double-digit underdogs against Navy. I think they are worth another endorsement as they head to Norman to face the Oklahoma Sooners. Tulane has opened the season 1-1 SU but more importantly 2-0 ATS. This is a squad that has taken major strides under the watch of second-year head coach Willie Fritz. The triple option offense has been firmly established and the level of execution, particularly along the offensive line, has gotten better as the Green Wave have averaged 243 ypg on the ground at a 5 ypc. They’ve also found a better quarterback this season with Jonathan Banks who with a 65% completion rate, 3 TDs and no INTs has shown the ability to throw the ball. Unfortunately, Banks was knocked out of the Navy game due to injury but Johnathan Brantley filled in admirably. The potential loss of Banks, while not ideal, Read more

NFL Handicapping: Bengals get steamed up to -6.5 for TNF matchup vs. Texans

09.13.2017     08:43 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Here's something you don't see often. Team A closes as -2.5 Week 1 home chalk and proceeds to lose 20-0. Team A opens -3.5 home chalk for Week 2 and proceeds to get bet up to -6.5. That's the situation for the Cincinnati Bengals who play host to the Houston Texans on Thursday. But the Cinci "love" could perhaps also be Houston "hate" after the Texans were blitzed by Jacksonville at home, 29-7. Not to mention all of the off-the-field distractions with Hurricane Harvey. Oh yeah, don't forget rookie Deshaun Watson is expected to start.

Since 2000, NFL teams that were shutout at home are 25-13 (65.8%) ATS their next game. However, since teams that get blanked at home generally aren't very good, the straight up record is only 16-22.

College Football Betting: After two ugly losses, reeling Baylor makes switch at quarterback

09.13.2017     08:29 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
With losses to Liberty, UTSA, and the Waco High School JV squad to open the season, Baylor will make a switch at quarterback with transfer Anu Solomon being replace by last year's part-time starter, Zach Smith. Smith threw for 375 yards and three touchdowns in Baylor's bowl win over Boise State the team's only win in its last nine tries. How about some +14 at Duke this weekend, bettors?

"We're going to turn to [Smith] and let him do his thing," Rhule said, making the announcement on the Big 12 coaches teleconference.

"These kids have been through a tough stretch ... They've won one of the last nine games," Rhule said. "They're looking for something good to happen."
