College Football Betting Preview: LSU Tigers at Alabama Crimson Tide

11.02.2017     11:22 AM     Andrew Lange     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Andrew Lange blog entry.
LSU at Alabama
Saturday, 5 pm PT - CBS
CRIS Opener: Alabama -20 O/U 50
CRIS Current: Alabama -21 O/U 48.5
Recommendation: Alabama

LSU has had its fair share of issues this season. The passing game, Ed Orgeron sticking his nose in where it doesn't belong, Danny Etling, Matt Canada's new offense...the list goes on. But when they Tigers have really struggled, all of those things take a back seat to offensive line play. With a handful of young and inexperienced players, LSU's o-line has had an extremely difficult time both pass and run blocking. The run game is still averaging over 200 ypg but more by attrition (42.6 attempts per game) than ability. Compared to last season, the Tigers are down a full yard per carry (5.07). This weekend's matchup has the potential to expose this unit in a big way.

Alabama's strength of schedule thus far doesn't look all that impressive in large part because a majority of their opponents have vastly underachieved. But the ability to dominate no matter who the foe is obviously still there. The Crimson Tide have outscored their five Read more

College Football Betting: Clemson ready for faster offensive pace

11.01.2017     10:41 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Following the loss of Deshaun Watson, it was logical that Clemson's offensive pace would slow. Last year, the Tigers ran over 80 plays per game and were one of the faster tempo teams in the country. This year, the Tigers have been playing it a lot closer to the vest and allowing their elite-level stop unit to win games. That philosophy eventually backfired as the offense ran only 57 plays and produced only 317 yards in their Week 7 loss to Syracuse. Last week, the offense picked up the tempo some (78 plays, 428 yards) in a 24-10 win over Georgia Tech. According to the coaching staff, with quarterback Kelly Bryant fully acclimated, the offense is ready to return to its brand of up-tempo play. Bettors should perhaps be a little bit wary of such a claim. Despite the loss to Syracuse, Clemson is still in position to reach the playoffs should they win out. Playing fast, as we know, comes with risks (turnovers, more stress on the defense), especially when you haven't done much of it. Clemson is currently a -7 road Read more

NFL Gambling Alert: There's been a Brock Osweiler sighting

11.01.2017     10:26 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Well, hello old friend. Back from the dead (i.e. a infamous stint in Cleveland), Denver's Brock Osweiler will start Sunday's game at Philadelphia. The Broncos come in having lost four of five; failing to top 20 points during that span. After turning over the ball five times in last week's loss to Kansas City, Denver is hoping that Osweiler can assist in shoring that up. In one and half years as a starter for Denver (2015) and Houston (2016), Osweiller fumbled nine times and threw 22 interceptions. For the first time since 2012, the Broncos will be catching more than a touchdown with the Eagles currently -8 home chalk.

"When you lose three in a row and how we've lost the football games, again [Monday] on offense with four turnovers, I think everything is for discussion,'' Joseph said. "It's fair to say, right now, everything is being discussed ... It's unfair to your team if you're not discussing that position.''

College Football Handicapping: Houston hopes third string quarterback will solve offensive woes

11.01.2017     10:12 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Lack of consistent quarterback play has been a big problem for the Houston Cougars with Kyle Postma and Kyle Allen combining to throw more interceptions (10) than touchdowns (9). Last week, third stringer D'Eriq King entered that game on the third series and helped the Cougars engineer a 28-24 upset over the Bulls. Head coach Major Applewhite justifiably said King will start Saturday's game against East Carolina. King had previously been used as a receiver (29 catches, 264 yards). It's very conceivable he could run wild with East Carolina currently dead last nationally in total defense (577.6 ypg allowed).

NBA Gambling News: Cleveland vows to shore up leaky defense

11.01.2017     09:57 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
A little early in the NBA season for a "team meeting", no? The Cleveland Cavaliers are 3-4 (1-6 ATS) and 28th in the league in defensive efficiency. They've allowed 115 ppg over their last five games; three of which came against New York, Brooklyn, and Chicago. After two off days, the Cavs (-10) play host to Indiana tonight. The total was bet down from 218.5 to 216.5.

“The slow start that we’ve had prompted us to just all get on the same page and kind of figure out what we need to do,” center Kevin Love said. “I feel like we can get in better shape, that’s going to help us on the defensive end. Communication, energy and just getting the new guys adjusted. So time will tell how it’s going to play out, but we have a lot of really good positive energy from today, so, it was a great practice.”

MLB World Series Handicapping: Betting public prefers underdog Astros and over for tonight's Game 7

11.01.2017     09:49 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Game 7 of the World Series goes tonight with the Los Angeles Dodgers (Darvish) a -155 home favorite to the Houston Astros (McCullers). Interestingly, Pinnacle opened -110 last night and it peaked at -168 before settling to the current price of -155. According to Sports Options, 58% of "public" bettors are on the Astros while 67% prefer over 7.5. From 1982 to 2011, home teams won nine straight World Series Game 7's. The last two --- San Francisco in 2014 and the Chicago Cubs in 2016 --- went to the road team.
