College Basketball Betting Free Play: Missouri Tigers at South Carolina Gamecocks

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Missouri at South Carolina -2 O/U 140
Recommendation: Under

Missouri's Cuonzo Martin and South Carolina's Frank Martin have long been coaches you can play under the total given the right circumstances. I see tonight as an opportunity with the Tigers opening SEC play and the Gamecocks off a 74-69 road loss to Ole Miss. During non-conference play, Mizzou at times showed capable on the offensive end while also willing to get up and down the floor. But against comparable competition, their scores and pace were far more moderate. Games against Iowa State, Utah, UCF, and Illinois yielded 133, 136, 121, and 134 points. They did however get caught up in a few high scoring affairs against St. John's (90-82) and West Virginia (83-79) as well as recent home contests vs. a few up-tempo mid-major squads. Interestingly, Martin's Cal team from a year ago played in only four PAC-12 games that closed higher than 140 and those were against Arizona State, UCLA, and Washington; three teams that played with tremendous pace and didn’t defend. It's pointless to use South Carolina's results from a season ago considering all of the experience and Read more

Betting Trends: Using Strength of Schedule to Handicap the Wild Card Round of the NFL Playoffs

01.02.2018     01:10 PM     Printer Friendly
The theory is actually quite simple; since 2002, teams with a higher Strength of Schedule (using Sagarin’s Ratings) are a remarkable 41-19 straight up and 41-18-1 against the spread (69% winners) regardless of price and location. Even more amazing is that teams with a SOS differential of 10 or more went 24-5 SU, 23-5-1 ATS (82% winners). Taking it step further, teams with a better SOS that are underdogs went 16-15 SU, 21-9 ATS. Underdogs with a SOS rating of 10 or better went 10-6 SU and 11-5 ATS.

In 2002 the NFL expanded to its current format of 32 teams; eight divisions with four teams each. There wasn’t much upheaval as the league added the Houston Texans to the AFC and Seattle switched to the NFC. Two new divisions were created as the league kept the integrity of the established divisional rivalries pretty much intact. The playoff format was modified so that four division winners and two wild cards from each conference would advance to the playoffs.

Two regular scheduling changes were implemented based on the expansion and the four-team divisional format. Only two games each season would now be based on the Read more

College Basketball Betting Free Play: Georgetown Hoyas at DePaul Blue Demons

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Georgetown at DePaul -4 O/U 145.5
Recommendation: Over

DePaul has played a daunting schedule thus far including back-to-back games against the Big East's top two teams, Villanova and Xavier. Once again, head coach Dave Leitao has failed to assemble a roster talented enough to compete on a nightly basis. Two of the Blue Demons' more effective offensive players, Max Strus and Marin Maric, are mid-major transfers. Veterans Eli Cain and Tre’Darius McCallum would be role players nearly every other team in the league. And freshman point guard Justin Roberts has a bright future but will undoubtedly struggle against better competition. Georgetown has drawn a lot of attention for its super-soft non-conference schedule but there are perhaps signs of potential. The Hoyas lost to Syracuse and Butler in overtime and lost by nine at Marquette this past weekend. Turnovers, not scoring, were the main problem with 62 miscues in those three games. What's noticeable with both squads is the uptick in tempo. With methodical point guard Billy Garrett gone, the Blue Demons have shown far more willingness to play with pace. And first-year head coach Read more
