NFL Preseason Gambling: Eagles and Browns not expected to show much

Philadelphia at Cleveland -4.5 O/U 37

Tricky handicap tonight with Philadelphia traveling to Cleveland. The two teams will play again in Week 1 of the regular season.

“It’s a quick turnaround,” linebacker D’Qwell Jackson said of the two matchups within 17 days. “We have a lot of guys in the building who are familiar with the Philadelphia Eagles, so I’m sure both sides won’t show their hands as much.

“It’s not going to be a lot of scheming going on, just bodies on bodies and see what we can get accomplished.”

Cleveland at Green Bay -3 O/U 40

Cleveland head coach Pat Shurmur is considering playing his starters, including rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden, the entire first half of tonight's game against Green Bay. Note that the Browns play Philadelphia in Week 3 of the preseason as well as Week 1 of the regular season.

"They may play a little more; they may not," Shurmur said of tonight's game. "We'll just have to see. I'm going to keep that open."

"You like to see completions," Shurmur said. "You like to see if the ball is thrown down field, again you get completions. You obviously want to score points, but you want to see the quarterback manage Read more

Cleveland at Detroit -3 (-115) O/U 36

No sense in letting a 28-year year old first round draft pick ride the pine. The Cleveland Browns announced Brandon Weeden will be the team's starter for Friday's preseason opener at Detroit. Colt McCoy and Seneca Wallace will duke it out for the back-up spot.

Baltimore Ravens
Starting point:
In 2011, the Ravens finished 12-4 SU, 8-7-1 ATS (for the third consecutive year) and 10-6 to the Over. In fact, the Ravens are the only team in the NFL to make the playoffs in each of the last four years, a beacon of stability in a tumultuous league. Not only that, Baltimore has managed to win at least one playoff game in each of those four seasons, and came within a missed Billy Cundiff field goal in the AFC Championship Game of potentially reaching the Super Bowl last season.

Baltimore faced one of the easiest schedules in the league last year, facing only two playoff teams from outside their division all season. The Ravens outgained their opponents by 0.6 yards per play and finished +2 in turnovers. The Ravens also had the #1 red zone defense in the NFL last year, allowing opponents to convert for touchdowns only 38% of the time.

2012 Issues: The single biggest issue for Baltimore in 2012 is how tough their schedule is; a dramatic change compared to last year. The Ravens also have their fourth new defensive coordinator in the last four years (Dean Pees); now that Chuck Pagano is the new Read more

Pittsburgh’s Hines Ward OVER 3 CATCHES

Ward is 10 catches shy of 1,000 for his career and they have been working to get him the ball with four and five catches the last two games. If the Steelers are running the no-huddle and Big Ben is calling the plays this should help as well. Finally, Joe Haden is expected to cover Mike Wallace the bulk of the game. Good Luck!

NFL Gambling: Steelers will probably use the no-huddle tonight vs. Cleveland

Cleveland at Pittsburgh -14 O/U 38.5

The Pittsburgh Steelers haven't been shy about telling the world their gameplan to run the no-huddle offense against Cleveland tonight.

"They should know it; we've done it three out of four weeks," Arians said. "As I get stale as a play-caller, I like to turn it over to No. 7. We have a wager on who gets to the end zone first."

"It's not bad for us because the game plan is very similar to last week, which helps," Roethlisberger said. "Having a relatively experienced group and a quarterback, we can do the no-huddle. That helps us a little bit.

"Bruce is comfortable being able to say we're going to use the no-huddle this game. Him feeling comfortable with me and me feeling comfortable with the offense we can utilize that. That can help you for not putting too much and overwhelm a Read more

Buffalo at Dallas -5.5 – This sets up as a high-scoring entertaining game. The underachieving Cowboys (4-4) have posted some impressive offensive numbers as they outgain a tougher schedule 400-335. Rookie running back DeMarco Murray has burst onto the scene and added to the offense’s success. I expect Tony Romo to have a big game even without WR Miles Austin, as the Cowboys speedy receivers and top TE will make plenty of plays against a suspect secondary.  The Bills (5-3) defense allows 381 ypg and 6.0 yards per play including 260 passing ypg and 7.7 yards per pass attempt. The Bills offense has been efficient in the red zone and is more balanced with a top-tier running game and breakout season from Ryan Fitzpatrick. Against a Dallas secondary missing CB Jenkins and top tackler LB Lee hurting and questionable, the Bills offense should also enjoy success Sunday. Bills head coach Chan Gailey returns to Dallas where he coached in the late 90’s, and he’s one of the top offensive Read more

I will share some interesting information and ATS data passed along to me recently. I posted some information in the Sportsmemo forum about the Cleveland-Seattle game last week in which the Browns won 6-3 (pushed ATS) despite a 43:00-17:00 time of possession advantage and 298 to 127 total yards edge. The Seahawks managed just eight first downs and 2.7 yards per play as backup quarterback Charlie Whitehurst struggled to move the offense. The Browns also had a 2-1 turnover advantage, and yet despite all of that, they still did not cover the pointspread; ultimately having a 24-yard FG blocked with three minutes remaining.

With such offensive ineptitude, it’s no surprise that the public is lining up against these two teams this week. Their opponents, Cincinnati and San Francisco, are also off a bye. But history shows that following a game in which there was 10 or less points scored, these ugly offenses and offenders are actually good bets. In fact, as an underdog, they are strong.

Since 1989, there have been only 18 games where both teams combined to score 10 points or less. These teams have followed by going 22-13-1 ATS after their inept offensive efforts the Read more

NFL Gambling Notes: Cleveland prepares for Seattle no-huddle offense

Seattle at Cleveland -3 O/U 41

Cleveland talks about its game plan for stopping Seattle’s surprisingly effective no-huddle offense.

"[Their no-huddle] has been really, really been productive and we anticipate that's what we're going to see," said Browns defensive coordinator Dick Jauron. "Their offense can dictate personnel and we've got to communicate quickly. Defensively, you know what's out there, but it makes you go fast. It makes you stay up with them. Because you don't see it often, your guys have to get used to it. We'll have to get a feel for it early. It definitely poses some issues for defenses."

We’ve released our biggest card of the NFL season Sunday, and it comes with a guarantee: produce profit or the rest of October is Free!  Coming off a 4-0 sweep of the sides last week, we’ve found our groove and Week 6 looks like a great card.

Philadelphia at Washington – What a nightmare for the Dream Team! The Eagles have outgained all five opponents yet stand 1-4 SU. Combined with a 0-4 ATS run, Philly is desperate for a win. Can they get it together against the rested Redskins playing with revenge after last year’s embarrassing 59-28 loss on MNF?  Vick has to clean up act and stop turning the ball over as the Eagles are a league-worst -10 in differential. NFL teams off 0-4 SU and ATS run as betting favorites are just 1-8 ATS their next game. Point of attack profile shows the Eagles leading the league in rushing at 165 ypg and 5.8 ypr while the Redskins average Read more
