Miami at Chicago -3 O/U 48

Positive sign for the Chicago Bears with their offensive line's original starting five expected to play this weekend vs. Miami. The unit hasn't been together since Week 1. The Bears rank 18th in the league in yards per carry (4.2) and 22nd in sacks allowed per game (2.3).

Betting on the NFL is all the rage for UK punters

Betting on the NFL in the UK is apparently a thing. Wonder if the Brits are aware that the NFL screwed them with the worst matchup on the Week 4 slate with Miami taking on Oakland? The Dolphins are 3.5-point favorites with a total of 40.5.

"The Patriots are very popular with punters," Crilly said. "Although, the betting public is very clued up and rather than following a certain team, they will back who they think will win."

"We may take slightly more in the way of big bets [on NFL games at Wembley Stadium]," Ladbrokes spokesman Alex Donohue said in an email, "but the main difference would be the sheer amount of bets placed."

NFL Handicapping: Kansas City Chiefs suffer from injury regression

Kansas City at Miami -4 O/U 41.5

A slew of injuries for the Kansas City Chiefs heading into Sunday's game at Miami. Running back Jamaal Charles (ankle) is out and cornerback Eric Berry (ankle) is questionable. Check out the numbers behind those currently sidelined below. Note that the Chiefs were the healthiest team in the league last year based on fewest starts lost to injury.

The loss of Charles and Berry means the hard-luck Chiefs (0-2) are down seven starters to injuries and suspensions. Those seven players have combined to start 355 games, play in 492 games and appear in nine Pro Bowls over 43-plus seasons in the NFL.

NFL Handicapping: New England's offensive line faces another tough front seven

New England -3 at Minnesota O/U 49

Last week against Miami, New England's offensive line was manhandled for much of the game. The Dolphins recorded four sacks on Tom Brady and a ton of hurries. This week's opponent, Minnesota, present a similar challenge. The Vikings notched five sacks and helped force two interceptions in their 34-6 domination of the Rams. New England offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels couldn’t pinpoint the exact root of the problem but pointed to the heat on humidity of Miami as a contributing factor.

“I don’t think there was one thing in particular,” McDaniels said. “I think you have to do a good job of being technically sound in terms of your protection to avoid pressure on the passer, obviously. Give credit to Miami; they deserve it. They did a good

NFL Preseason Gambling: Tampa Bay starters to see extended time vs. Miami

Miami at Tampa Bay -2.5 O/U 37.5

After a lackluster performance in Week 1, Tampa Bay head coach Lovie Smith says his starters will play into the second quarter during Saturday's game vs. Miami. In Week 1 the Bucs rushed for only 3.3 ypc and allowed three sacks in the 16-10 loss to Jacksonville.

"We realize what's at stake this weekend, and we want to play a lot better," Smith said. "Anytime you get a chance to start off in front of your fans at home is special. The starters will play into the second quarter and will play a lot longer than they did (last week)."

"You want to progress from week to week, but there is a little veil, which every team has to a degree, to give you a little bit of an edge," McCown said. "As far as the complexity of our offense, it is on par with most of the offenses in this league. But we have

NFL Gambling Preview: Miami Dolphins at Pittsburgh Steelers

CRIS Current: Pittsburgh -3 O/U 40.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Pittsburgh -4
Teddy Covers' Recommendation: Under

Both the Steelers and the Dolphins are fundamentally flawed football teams, yet both remain very ‘live’ in the AFC Playoff picture.  The 6-6 Dolphins are currently tied with Baltimore for the #6 seed in the AFC, while the Steelers rank just one game behind with four left to play.  That being said, neither team can like their chances if they lose this week.  We should expect a maximum intensity playoff-level showdown as a result.

The Steelers chances took a real blow last week with their loss at Baltimore, unable to convert the game tying two point try at the end of regulation.  But that defeat didn’t end their season, not by any stretch of the imagination.  QB Ben Read more

NFL Gambing Preview: Carolina Panthers at Miami Dolphins

CRIS Opener:
Carolina -3.5 O/U 40
CRIS Current: Carolina -4 O/U 41
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Carolina -3
Rob Veno's Recommendation: Carolina

Have to admit that Miami’s home victory over San Diego last Sunday was a bit surprising considering all of its problems. The largest issue for the Dolphins was the depleted offensive line which took a further hit last week when starting center Mike Pouncey (kidney) was unable to play. With 60% of the starting offensive line out, Miami was able to gain 343 total yards including 104 on the ground at 5.5 per carry. They did allow four sacks and their defense was stung for 435 yards by the Chargers. The win places Miami right at the doorstep of the playoffs at 5-5 just behind the current sixth seed New York Jets who have the same 5-5 mark. Carolina meanwhile, has moved into the fifth spot in the NFC following its controversial Monday night Read more

Thursday Night Football Betting Recap: Dolphins win...in overtime...on a safety

The NFL Network spent a lot of their early coverage Thursday night raving about Bengals' quarterback Andy Dalton…and how he had topped 300 passing yards in each of the last three games. They didn’t dwell on the fact that it came against Buffalo in an overtime game, Detroit indoors, and the Jets the week after New York went OT to beat hated New England. Hey…it’s marketing…we’ve got a quarterback to sell!

You knew karma was going to step in to at least make things interesting. Karma hates marketing hype worse than I do. Dalton had the ball stripped for a fumble, and threw three interceptions (one of which was returned for a TD) in his sloppiest game of the year. (I swear to you that I typed all that when I thought it was going to lead into an ugly 20-17 victory!)

And…THEN…knotted at 20-all in overtime…Dalton was sacked in the end zone for a game-ending safety. A GAME ENDING OVERTIME SAFETY!

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wise Guy Report: AFC News and Notes from Week 8

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Welcome to Teddy’s unique look at the NFL. Teddy watches games all day on Sunday, typing furiously on his laptop while giving you the key info that the box scores and game recaps don’t necessarily have. This week: AFC thoughts and opinions from Week 8.

Cincinnati Bengals
Andy Dalton looked really good last week against the Lions, and he looked every bit as good here on a five TD afternoon. The Jets played their corners in single coverage for most of the game, and Cincinnati’s receivers won the vast majority of those one-on-one battles. Cinci’s offensive line kept Dalton’s uniform clean for extended stretches, giving him time to throw. And Dalton showed great accuracy on his deep balls, something he hasn’t shown very often as a pro. It’s surely worth noting that Dalton only targeted AJ Green on seven of his thirty pass attempts, spreading the ball among his playmakers; something that’s been a problem for him in the past.

The Bengals have the requisite offensive playmakers to make a deep January run. Their defense was stellar; effectively blitzing (and rattling) Geno Smith, creating turnovers, Read more

The New England Patriots are a very different team now compared to where they were a month ago.  The biggest difference between the Pats now and when they started the season 4-0 is a barrage of injuries on the defensive side of the football.  After four weeks of play, the Patriots D looked like an elite level unit; ranked among the league leaders in nearly every significant statistical category.  But they’ve been torched by the Jets and Saints for 57 points and more than 750 yards in their last two ballgames.

Perennial pro bowl defensive tackle Vince Wilfork tore his Achilles; out for the year.  His counterpart at defensive tackle, veteran Tommy Kelly hasn’t been able to suit Read more
