NFL Gambling Preview: Cleveland Browns at Minnesota Vikings

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Cleveland at Minnesota
Sunday, 10 am PT – CBS
CRIS Opener:
Minnesota -3 O/U 41.5
CRIS Current: Minnesota -6.5 O/U 41
Rob Veno’s Power Rating: Minnesota -5
Erin Rynning’s Recommendation: Cleveland

The Vikings enter Sunday’s game against the Browns as a steep touchdown favorite.  They also enter with a 0-2 record and their two opponents were hardly world beaters in the Bears and Lions.  As expected, the Vikings quarterback play has been bad under the direction of Christian Ponder.  Ponder has turned the ball over frequently and he lacks the arm strength to exploit teams with the deep ball.  Teams have stacked the line of scrimmage in a big way, daring Ponder to beat them.  This hasn’t worked out well for Adrian Peterson and the run game as well.  After Peterson’s initial 78-yard run to open the season, he’s averaged 2.7 yards per carry on 43 Read more

NFL Gambling Preview: Miami Dolphins at Indianapolis Colts

Miami at Indianapolis

CRIS Opener:
Indianapolis pk O/U 43
CRIS Current: Indianapolis -2.5 O/U 43.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Indianapolis -2
Erin Rynning's Recommendation: Indianapolis

The Dolphins were able to coast to a 23-10 win last week in Cleveland against the Browns.  However, they failed to overwhelm and were actually outgained by the Brown by 16 yards.  Their rushing attack was a grave concern with just 20 yards on 23 carries. Second year quarterback Ryan Tannehill is yet to prove he can play at a high level in the NFL.  It doesn’t help that he lacks weapons as well, and the tight end injury to Dustin Keller will prove difficult to overcome.  One could argue that free agent addition wide receiver Mike Wallace will be that true difference maker, but I feel strongly he’ll disappoint.  No question, the defense for the Dolphins will carry this team Read more

NFL Betting Stock Watch: Expect Dallas' mediocre ways to continue

09.13.2013     07:53 AM     ER Sports     Printer Friendly

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Sell the Dallas Cowboys – The Cowboys have been the poster boys for mediocrity in the NFL in each of the last two seasons with identical 8-8 records.  Obviously much more is expected but the franchise continues to underachieve.  Their underachieving ways are clearly noted in their ATS record of 12-20 over the prior two campaigns.  This season has much the same feel as the Cowboys are expected to fight for a playoff spot, however their leadership will fail to lead the way.  The management of the franchise continues to lack the cohesiveness and foresight to put things together on Sundays whether it’s the failings in the player personnel department or their in-game strategy.  The offense remains a question without an front five that can control the line of scrimmage over the course of the season.  The unit looked adequate Sunday night against the Giants, but a commanding lead eased the Giants' pass rush, which looked to be a notch down to begin with.  Other questions loom about 73-year-old defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin.  This was the strangest hire in the NFL off-season to begin with.  There’s Read more

NFL Gambling Preview: Cincinnati Bengals at Chicago Bears

Rob Veno's Power Rating: Chicago -2.5
Erin Rynning's Recommendation: Under

The Bengals have become the popular sleeper pick to win the rough and tumble AFC North and even more so following the Ravens debacle on Thursday night.  To win the AFC North it all starts on the defensive side of the football and the Bengals can answer that question with a roster deep on talent.  Head coach Marvin Lewis made his name on the defensive side of the football while defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer has done a standout job.  Of course, it’s about the players as Geno Atkins is finally receiving accolades along the defensive line.  And there’s plenty more with cornerback Leon Hall, linebacker Vontaze Burfict, and now the addition of James Harrison.  The Bengals defense has the Read more

Super Bowl XLVII Prop Bet Recommendation: Kobe Bryant points vs. 49ers points

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Kobe Bryant Points vs. San Francisco Points
Recommendation: San Francisco +0.5 (-110 @ LVH)

Tired of losing, grasping at straws, desperate for a change...whatever it was, over the last week Kobe Bryant has transformed from gunner to facilitator. How long this lasts, no one knows. But what we do know is Kobe started passing and the Lakers started winning. They’ve won three of their last four (heading into Friday) and could of made it four straight had Dwight Howard not re-injured his shoulder during Wednesday's game at Phoenix. In those four games, Kobe attempted 51 shots (12.8 per game) and dished out 48 assists. In LA's previous four games to that (all losses), Kobe jacked up 102 shots (25.5 per game). On Sunday, the Lakers play at Detroit, one of the slower paced teams in the league. With a total of 47 and a line of -4, San Francisco is projected to score around 25 points which is close to where I made my numbers. So long as new Kobe doesn't morph back into old Kobe, this one cashes.

NFL Handicapper Free Play: Detroit Lions at Arizona Cardinals

Detroit -6 at Arizona O/U 43.5
Recommendation: Under

Something must give today when Detroit heads to the desert to face the Cardinals.  The Lions have lost five games in a row, but the Cardinals have been much worse having dropped nine straight.  However, we’ll be focusing on the total for this contest.  The Cardinals were embarrassed in grand fashion last week losing to division rival Seattle 58-0.  If there’s a unit to rebound from last week’s thumping it will be Arizona’s defense.  This is a prideful group with solid talent; keep in mind the defense slowed down the Patriots early in the campaign when very few teams have.  They’re at their best with their pass defense as well, which is a strong match-up against the Lions – cornerback Patrick Peterson will shadow Calvin Johnson.  However, their offense is entirely a different story.  The musical chairs will continue today at quarterback with rookie Ryan Lindley Read more
