NFL Gambling Update: Eagles' run-game nowhere to be found

09.29.2014     07:52 AM     Printer Friendly
UPDATE

Philadelphia's offensive line issues are starting to become a major problem not just a concern. Two weeks ago, the Eagles managed 57 yards on 25 carries vs. a Washington defense that just allowed 154 yards to the Giants. And Sunday against San Francisco it was half of that production with 22 yards on 12 carries.

“Obviously, I didn’t think we’d be able to run it in there,” Kelly said. “We weren’t moving the ball at all against that front.”

‪“We’re not getting movement,” right tackle Todd Herremans said. “We’re not hitting our combos correctly. Just not playing well.

“Everybody up front wants to do it. I don’t think it’s a communication thing. We just didn’t play well today.”

Betting on the NFL is all the rage for UK punters

09.26.2014     09:44 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Betting on the NFL in the UK is apparently a thing. Wonder if the Brits are aware that the NFL screwed them with the worst matchup on the Week 4 slate with Miami taking on Oakland? The Dolphins are 3.5-point favorites with a total of 40.5.

"The Patriots are very popular with punters," Crilly said. "Although, the betting public is very clued up and rather than following a certain team, they will back who they think will win."

"We may take slightly more in the way of big bets [on NFL games at Wembley Stadium]," Ladbrokes spokesman Alex Donohue said in an email, "but the main difference would be the sheer amount of bets placed."

NFL Gambling Alert: Tennessee's Locker questionable vs. Indianapolis

09.26.2014     09:15 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
It wouldn't be an NFL season without seeing Tennessee quarterback Jake Locker hurt before Week 5. Locker (wrist) didn't practice Thursday but still has a shot at playing on Sunday. If Locker is unable to go, Charlie Whitehurst would get the starting nod. The Colts were bet up from -7 to -7.5/-8. The total also moved from 45.5 to 46.5.

That’s left Whisenhunt hopeful that Locker “has a chance” of playing against their AFC South opponent and that Saturday will be the big day when it comes to determining his status. With a wrist injury on his throwing arm, Locker’s ability to grip the ball will be one of the questions that the team has to answer when making their call for Sunday.

NFL Handicapping: Green Bay Packers still looking to push the pace

Green Bay -1.5 at Chicago O/U 50

Off last week's dismal performance in which the offense produced seven points and ran only 51 plays, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers is pleading with the offense to play faster. The Packers' goal is to run 75 plays per game but they currently rank 28th with 58.7.

"We're not playing fast enough on offense, we're not converting enough third downs. Fifty-one plays (is) not enough to get defense tired," Rodgers said, per ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky.

"Five letters. R-E-L-A-X. Relax," Rodgers said. "We're going to be fine."

NFL bettor hits 15-team parlay, wins $57 K

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
No near miss with this 15-team parlay as a bettor from Arizona cashed in on $57K. Unlike Delaware’s parlay cards, William Hill’s contest requires contestants to pick only the straight up winner. It came down to two bettors Monday night. One had the Jets, the other the Bears.

NFL Gambling Preview: Philadelphia Eagles at San Francisco 49ers

Philadelphia at San Francisco
Sunday, 1:30 pm PT - FOX
CRIS Opener:
San Francisco -3.5 O/U 51
CRIS Current: San Francisco -5 o/U 50.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: San Francisco -5
Teddy Covers' Recommendation: Philadelphia

There’s something rotten in San Francisco, but the betting markets are just starting to notice.  That gives us tremendous value betting against a team that is supposed to be amongst the very elite of the NFL this year...except they’re not!

San Fran is broken on both sides of the football.  The 49ers offensive line did not play well throughout the preseason, despite the fact that every pundit and every website described their OL as elite.  Colin Kaepernick did not respond well to pressure; their running game didn’t produce yards and first downs, and the Niners offense did nothing in August.

Fast forward to September and we’ve seen more Read more

NFL Gambling Update: Eagles' offensive line still in disarray

09.23.2014     02:16 PM     Printer Friendly
UPDATE

Philadelphia at San Francisco -5 O/U 50.5

Despite playing with a makeshift offensive line, the Philadelphia Eagles are off to a 3-0 start (2-1) this season. But heading into Sunday's game at San Francisco, bettors should expect more changes to the team's starting unit.

"What I can guarantee you is that we will put five linemen out there on Sunday," Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur said. "There will be five of them."

Which ones?

"You guys can figure that one out."
