NFL Gambling Preview: Philadelphia Eagles at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Philadelphia at Tampa Bay
Sunday, 10 am PT - FOX
CRIS Opener:
Philadelphia -1.5 O/U 45.5
CRIS Current: Philadelphia -2 O/U 45
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Tampa Bay -1.5
Rob Veno's Recommendation: Philadelphia -0.5 1st half

Tough to gauge how Tampa Bay is going to come out of the bye week after having so much conflict between head coach Greg Schiano and former quarterback Josh Freeman. They should come out with extreme intensity and their sights set on getting into the win column but if things go wrong at the outset of this contest they could get discouraged. The wretched play of the entire NFC East Division is the only reason Philadelphia remains in a somewhat confident place heading into this Sunday. Local media and fan base alike were all ready to jump ship on Chip Kelly’s initial season had the Eagles lost to the winless Giants last week, but the victory along with the solid play of backup Nick Foles have Read more

NFL Betting News: Philadelphia's Vick wants to play vs. Tampa Bay

Philadelphia -1.5 at Tampa Bay O/U 45.5

Michael Vick (hamstring) says he's preparing to play Sunday's game at Tampa Bay. Don't expect official word on either Vick of Nick Foles until Sunday morning.

"Today was another stepping stone," said Vick, who was limited on the team's official injury report. "I think we’ll go and work it out before the game and see how it feels. Until then, I’m going to continue to get treatment and I’ve got some things that I’m going to try to do today to try to get it better."

"It’s important to be 100 percent, but with this type of injury if you do anything out of the ordinary than you can prolong the recovery process, so I’m just trying to be smart about it and our training staff is as well," Vick said.

NFL Handicapping: Estimated Market Power Ratings - Week 6

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Submitted by Stat Intelligence

An updated look at our estimated Power Ratings for the NFL based on how the market is pricing teams this week as of late Wednesday afternoon. Looks like things are starting to settle into more logical places. We’ve been scratching our heads about a few things the last couple of Wednesdays. The questions we were asking turned out largely to be very good questions. The market seems to be learning from its week-to-week incoherence. Just took longer than usual this time around.

Estimated NFL Market Power Ratings

91: Denver

85: Seattle, Green Bay

84: New Orleans (at home), San Francisco

83: New Orleans (on the road)

82: New England, Indianapolis

81: Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit

80: Chicago, Houston, Kansas City

79: Baltimore, Miami, Atlanta

78: San Diego, Philadelphia, Washington, Carolina

77:

76: Minnesota, St. Louis, NY Giants, Arizona, Pittsburgh

NFL Handicapping: Washington's seondary on high alert vs. Dallas

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Washington at Dallas -5.5 O/U 52

The Washington Redskins haven't had much success stopping the pass this season (298.3 ypg allowed) while Sunday's opponent, the Dallas Cowboys, are off a 500-yard performance.

“We’re gonna have our plan. We’re gonna go out there and try to execute. We’re gonna try and make them one-dimensional. But if the one dimension can throw for 500 [yards] and five touchdowns, it’s not really ideal. So it’s tough. It’s tough. We’ve got to force turnovers throughout the game. We’ve got to make big plays when they arise. We’re gonna count on our offense to be the offense that we know they can be. And they’re gonna score some points and that’s gonna help us get in a situation where they can be one-dimensional and we can Read more

NFL Gambling News: Buccaneers prep for Eagles' offense

Philadelphia -1 at Tampa Bay O/U 45.5

Tampa Bay talks about its preparation for Philadelphia's up-tempo offense.

“I was looking at tape today – I watched the Washington game – and I was just timing the plays," said defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.  "Because it was a touchback, the first play was, of course, at 15:00; the next play was at 14:47; and the next play after that was like 14:32 or something like that. I’m like, ‘They can’t be running plays this fast.’ It’s up-tempo. We’ve just got to be ready for it. I think, with how we prepare here and how we train here, we’ll be all right, conditioning-wise. We’ve just got to make sure we ignore all the bells and whistles and just focus on our keys.”

"I think that's the most Read more

NFL Gambling Preview: Green Bay Packers at Baltimore Ravens

Green Bay at Baltimore
Sunday, 10 am PT - FOX
CRIS Opener:
Green Bay -3.5 O/U 47.5
CRIS Current: Green Bay -3 O/U 48.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Baltimore pk
Teddy Covers' Recommendation: Under

We got two underrated defenses facing off against two offenses that are struggling in the red zone AND committed to running the football . Put those three factors together with the consistently high totals in the modern NFL era and the case for the Under is perfectly clear.

Let me start with the defenses. Green Bay got Morgan Burnett back in the lineup at safety last week after missing the first three games of the season and he definitely had an impact, saving a potential big play TD with a beautiful pass breakup. The Packers front seven really controlled the field against Detroit, and there’s no reason to think they won’t be able to do it again here even without Clay Matthews relentless pass rushing Read more

NFL Gambling Trends: History points towards the UNDER in Washington-Dallas matchup

10.09.2013     12:11 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Good find by Marty Otto on "bad" defenses off a bye week facing "good" offenses. Games involving teams that allow 27 ppg or more off a week of rest vs. teams that score 24 ppg or more are 9-22 O/U dating back to 1994. Since 2011, the trend has produced five straight UNDERS. For this week we have the Washington Redskins (28.0 ppg allowed) off a bye facing the Dallas Cowboys (30.4 ppg).

Breaking Down the Undefeated and Winless ATS Teams
The list of winless and undefeated ATS teams continues to shrink after Week 5 of the season. Denver and Seattle were the two remaining undefeated teams but both came up short from an ATS perspective. However, there are still four teams looking for their first pointspread win of the season as we head into Week 6. Those teams are Houston, Jacksonville, and the New York Giants at 0-5 ATS along with Pittsburgh at 0-4 ATS.

The Giants, Jaguars, and Steelers have all failed to win a game straight up while the Texans are 2-3. New York will attempt to snap their SU and ATS winless streak in Chicago playing on a short week against a Bears team that has dropped their last two games. It doesn’t help the Giants have three major flaws right now. They can’t take care of the football, they can’t block up front, and their secondary has been ripped apart by each opponent they’ve faced.
Jacksonville finds itself involved this week in the largest pointspread in NFL history as they opened as 28-point underdogs against the Denver Broncos. The next largest spread was when the Pittsburgh Read more

NFL Handicapping Trends: Raiders and Saints with upcoming bye week

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
From the start of the 2012 season to present day teams about to go into their bye, playing a team NOT about to go into a bye, are 9-19 SU, 7-21 ATS, 11-17 O/U.

If you look specifically at home favorites in this role they are 4-12 SU, 2-14 ATS, by far and away the worst segment. I contemplated one reasonable explanation being they don't have to travel, have the nice little vacation on their mind, see an opponent they think they should have no trouble beating and simply sleep walk.

Oakland Raiders and New Orleans Saints both face their byes and an opponent who is not this week.

Monday Night Football Betting Recap: Jets score upset win over Falcons

SportsMemo.com blog entry.

Goodness. That was a great game, with some fascinating storylines in play...

For the Jets…

*Geno Smith continues to show off his very strong arm. He’s best suited to thrive indoors on a fast track or in great weather against defenses that don’t apply a lot of pressure. Harmonic convergence for that tonight, even without his best receivers.

*Tonight’s upset moves them to 3-2 in the AFC East standings, tied with Miami for second place behind 4-1 New England.

*This is now a team that seems to have GREAT chemistry instead of horrible chemistry!

For the Falcons…

*This was their second straight home loss as favorites against an AFC team. A lot of NFC teams are underachieving against the AFC of late (both the 49ers and Seahawks lost to Indianapolis, and those were the top Super Bowl choices from the NFC).

*Their lack of a running game is putting a ton of pressure on Read more
