NFL Gambling Preview: Miami Dolphins at Detroit Lions

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Miami at Detroit
Sunday, 10 am PT - CBS
CRIS Opener:
Detroit -3 O/U 42.5
CRIS Current: Detroit -2.5 O/U 2.5 O/U 43.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Detroit -2.5
Teddy Covers' Recommendation: Under

Both the Lions and the Dolphins rank outside the top half of the NFL in red zone touchdown percentage on offense; both teams settling for field goals far too regularly.  Defensively, both the Lions and Dolphins are above average at keeping teams out of the end zone when they reach the red zone.

Any NFL totals bettor will tell you that one of the key aspects of the handicap is trying to gauge the ratio of field goals vs. touchdowns.  Given how both teams have played on both sides of the ball throughout the first half of the campaign, it’s quite reasonable to assume that the trend of ‘more field goals and fewer touchdowns’ will continue this week.

On a yards-per-play basis, Miami Read more

NFL Gambling: Jones say Romo will play vs. Jacksonville

11.06.2014     06:59 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
According to Dallas owner Jerry Jones, Tony Romo will play in Sunday's game against Jacksonville in London. Sportsbooks however are taking a more cautious approach with the game still off the board. Back-up Brandon Weeden posted a QB Rating of 55.5 in last week's loss to Arizona.

“I’m anticipating him playing,’’ Jones said. “I have no reason to think that he won’t.

“Anytime he can play, we want him to play. We’re a better team, to be trite, with him playing. There’s no such thing as holding him out and foregoing the potential chance that we win.’’

NFL Handicapping: Cincinnati surviving with stellar pass defense

11.04.2014     07:33 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Run through the teams stats and rankings and the Cincinnati Bengals don't do a lot of things well. But according to Football Outsiders, their saving grace has been "the league’s best pass defense.” Great read.

"Their passing game is average," Hornsby said. "(It's helped) slightly by (Mo) Sanu and (A.J.) Green, when he was healthy. They are struggling to run, (but) their overall ground game is about at the NFL average. Their penalty level is at the NFL average. Notice a trend?

"They are really struggling in run defense. They are getting beaten at the point of attack and the only good run defenders in the front seven are either injured (Vontaze Burfict) or coming back from injury (Geno Atkins).

"If you're the best in Defensive Passer Rating, chances are you're going to make a (playoff) run," Byrne says.

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: NFC News and Notes

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
We’re into November, just past the halfway point of the 2014 NFL season.  The truths that we learned in September aren’t proving to be quite so true now that the season has progressed.  In this week’s wiseguy report, we’ll take a quick tour around the NFC landscape, focusing on some hidden gems of knowledge from around the league.

With their dominating win on Sunday, the Arizona Cardinals are now 14-3 SU, 13-3-1 ATS in their last 17 ballgames.  Only one of those three losses came by more than a field goal – their game at Denver, when third string rookie QB Logan Thomas was forced into action after injuries to Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton.

Yet the Cardinals statistical profile continues to confound wiseguy bettors.  Arizona went into their game at Dallas on Sunday with a -0.6 yards per play differential.  To put that number in perspective, the Oakland Raiders entered the weekend with a - 0.5 yards per play differential, the Jacksonville Jaguars had a -0.7 ypp differential.    And the Cards have been on the lucky end of the turnover equation this year, now +10 for the season after winning the Read more

NFL Betting Alert: Romo ruled out, Arizona now favored offshore

11.02.2014     07:41 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Multiple reports have surfaced saying Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo (back) will not play vs. Arizona. Back-up Brandon Weeden is expected to get the starting nod. Sportsbooks didn't post a line on the game until Friday when it looked as if Romo may play. CRIS opened Dallas -4 but bettors looking to take a position if Romo was ruled out drove the line down to -3. Money continued to come in on Arizona and once it was announced Romo would sit, the game shot down to a pick 'em, with a few offshore sportsbooks offering Arizona -1. The total, however, hasn't seen much movement with and opener of 45 and a current number of 44.5.

NFL Gambling Preview: Philadelphia Eagles at Houston Texans

10.31.2014     02:04 PM     Rob Veno     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Rob Veno

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Philadelphia at Houston
Sunday, 10 am PT - FOX
CRIS Opener:
Philadelphia -2.5 O/U 50
CRIS Current: Philadelphia -1 O/U 48.5
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Philadelphia -1
Rob Veno's Recommendation: Philadelphia

For all its offensive prowess, Philadelphia ranks last in the league in touchdowns scored in the red zone and they also lead the NFL in turnovers in the red zone. Those struggles have a chance of being corrected this week as their offensive line welcomes back center Jason Kelce which makes the unit the healthiest it has been in six weeks.

The addition figures to provide Nick Foles better pass protection against the formidable Houston pass rush and with 4/5 of the offensive line back on the field, LeSean McCoy’s numbers should continue to ascend. While having almost the entire o-line back is a huge boost for Philadelphia’s offense, an equally important return is that of Darren Sproles who Read more
