NFL Handicapping: CRIS vs. Cantor Gaming Summer Lines - Week 10

Back in early May, Cantor Gaming posted lines on every NFL regular season game. We took those lines and stacked them up against the current market numbers at CRIS. It's a good handicapping tool to identify some of the changes in opinion the market has had through the first nine weeks of the regular season.

NFL Handicapping: Best and Worst Drive Point Performances

11.06.2013     07:11 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Submitted by Stat Intelligence

Here are offensive and defensive Drive Point averages through the games of November 5. I’ll arrange them in matchup order late in the week. It’s been awhile since we looked at them from best to worst. And, this way we get to include next week’s bye teams too.

If you’re new to the site, Drive Points are those scored and allowed on drives of 60 yards or more as described in boxscores that itemize scoring drives or in drive charts. This focuses on the pure ability of offenses to drive the field, and defenses to prevent opponents from doing so. Special teams TD’s aren’t counted. Defensive TD’s aren’t counted. Cheap points off turnovers aren’t counted. Only points scored and allowed on drives of 60 yards or more.

Best Drive Point Offenses (more than 14): Denver 22.3, Chicago 18.0, Green Bay 16.6, Washington 16.1, Detroit 16.1, New Orleans 15.8, New England 15.8, San Diego 15.8, Philadelphia 15.6, San Francisco 15.1, Read more

Monday Night Football Betting Recap: Bears win outright as double-digit underdogs

Aaron Rodgers was knocked out of the game relatively early, with something that everyone but ESPN was reporting as a fractured collarbone. If it turns out to be less severe than that, ESPN’s restraint will seem noble. If that’s the injury, their inability to report what everyone else was reporting…with a sideline reporter and bunch of others on site with nothing better to do during the game than find stuff like that out…it’s another black eye against the pseudo-journalism of the network.

As I’m typing this, a postgame graphic is calling it a “shoulder” issue. Let’s see what the news brings Tuesday. Don’t want to blast them if it turns out to be a shoulder separation or something like what Mark Sanchez had. A clavicle isn’t a shoulder. We’ll see.

Chicago 27 (+10), Green Bay 20

Chicago: 442 yards, 5.9 per-play, 0 turnovers, 43% third downs

Green Bay: 312 yards, 5.7 Read more

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wise Guy Report: NFC News and Notes from Week 9

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Welcome to Teddy’s unique look at the NFL. Teddy watches games all day on Sunday, typing furiously on his laptop while giving you the key info that the box scores and game recaps don’t necessarily have. This week: NFC thoughts and opinions from Week 9.

Dallas Cowboys – Dallas had faced four top notch QB's this year heading into the game: Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Philip Rivers and Matthew Stafford. All four threw for more than 400 yards against Monte Kiffin's defense. Here, Christian Ponder had consistent success throwing downfield. This defense just can't stop the pass, especially with DeMarcus Ware out again, negating any semblance of a pass rush. And there were no shortage of defensive breakdowns either – missed tackles, missed assignments and blown coverages.

Not impressed with the offensive line play today one iota. The Vikings got pressure on Tony Romo all afternoon. They signed former pro bowl guard Brian Waters out of retirement a few weeks ago as a desperation move, but he couldn’t stay healthy; already on IR. Back-to-back sacks killed a red zone chance here, forcing Dan Bailey's legs to get points, not Read more

NFL Gambling Preview: San Diego Chargers at Washington Redskins

San Diego at Washington

CRIS Opener:
Washington pk O/U 51
CRIS Current: Washington pk O/U 50
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Washington -1.5
Erin Rynning's Recommendation: San Diego

The San Diego Chargers come in off their bye week with a renewed energy for their franchise after a strong 4-3 start.  New head coach Mike McCoy has done a brilliant job over the first half of the season – a significant upgrade in play from the latter stages of the Norv Turner era.  McCoy has especially done wonders in resurrecting quarterback Philip Rivers with his quick passing attack.  Rivers owns a sweet 15-5 TD-INT ratio, while completing 74% of his passes.  Importantly, the turnovers and sacks have dissipated.  Tight end Antonio Gates is healthy and a difference maker once again as McCoy has featured him underneath for plenty of easy yards.  The clincher for the Chargers’ Read more

NFL Handicapping: Drive Point Averages Week 9

Got to these quicker than I expected, so I rushed them right up. If you’re new to the site, Drive Points are those scored and allowed only on drives of 60 yards or more. We don’t count defensive scores, special teams scores, or any listed drive at 59 yards or less from the drive charts or itemized scoring drives at the major websites. What you see below are per-game averages. I put them in market rotation order so you can jot them down in your schedule and have them handy through the weekend (you could also print them out of course).

Atlanta: 15.1 on offense, 18.0 on defense

Carolina: 13.9 on offense,  8.7 on defense

(People have noticed that Atlanta’s losing, but I haven’t heard a lot of media criticism about how bad their defense has been playing. They’re lucky they’re not a New York team. Great defense from Carolina)

Minnesota: 14.1 on offense, 20.0 on Read more
