All-Time Super Bowl Betting Results 1967-2011

01.23.2012     06:23 AM     Printer Friendly
Here are you all-time Super Bowl results dating back to 1967. Only six times have we seen the team to win fail to cover the pointspread. Overall, favorites are 26-18 against the spread (the 1982 Super Bowl was lined as a pick 'em) but underdogs have been the play of late with seven of the last 10 taking the money. In terms of totals, the UNDER was the way to play it back in the late 60’s and early 70's. The 80's and 90's trended OVER the total but it has shifted back towards the UNDER with five of the last seven winning.

NFC Championship Prop Bet: New York WR Mario Manningham Total Receptions

New York Giants at San Francisco -2 O/U 41

New York WR Mario Manningham Total Receptions
Prop Bet Recommendation: Over 3.5 receptions EV (Greek)

The New York Giants understand they’ll need to throw the football and spread the field in order to have success on offense.  With San Francisco’s stout run defense and the Giants’ struggling offensive line, this makes perfect sense.  As a result, we’re looking for the Giants to throw their share of quick hitters, and slants.  This of course will mean more catches for their receivers. Mario Manningham has been banged up for much of the campaign and playing for a contract next season.  In Week 10’s match-up at San Francisco, Manningham hauled in six catches – not including his drop in the end zone.  In addition, he was targeted 10 times by Eli Manning.  With Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz earning the attention of opposing defenses, Manningham Read more

Total Made Field Goals in Game
Prop Bet Recommendation: Over 3.5 +117 (Pinnacle)

When these two teams met in November, they combined for six field goals by midway through the third quarter.  This is nothing unusual for the 49ers, a team that has been heavily reliant on kicker David Akers and their stellar red zone defense all year.  San Francisco finished the regular season ranked fourth in the NFL in red zone defense, holding teams out of the end zone more than 58% of the time.  Eli Manning and the Giants reached the red zone four times in the first meeting, but only scored one touchdown.  We can reasonably expect the Giants offense to stall in scoring position more than once today; settling for Lawrence Tynes field goal tries.

Meanwhile, the Niners own offense stalled repeatedly in the red zone throughout the regular season; ranked 29th out of 32 NFL teams in red zone Read more

AFC Championship Prop Bet: New England TE Aaron Hernandez Receiving Yards

New England Patriots TE Aaron Hernandez Total Receiving Yards?
Prop Bet Recommendation: Over 58.5 -140 (5Dimes)

Willing to lay the extra juice here with Patriots TE Hernandez who has averaged 65 receiving yards per game and gone over this total three of the last five games. His rapport with QB Tom Brady has increased immensely over the current five-game stretch as the pair has connected for 438 yards which is 48.1% of Hernandez’s receiving yardage for the year. With Baltimore having to be more concerned with slot receiver Wes Welker and fellow TE Rob Gronkowski, expect option No. 3 Hernandez to have constant matchup advantages. I don’t feel the Ravens’ linebackers are anything more than average in coverage, and their strong safeties simply can’t handle him. Look for Hernandez to go OVER this number and pick up 75+ yards receiving.           Read more

AFC Championship Prop Bet: First score of game will be a touchdown or field goal?

Baltimore at New England -7 O/U 50

First score of the game will be a Touchdown or Field Goal/Safety?
Prop Bet Recommendation: Field Goal +155 (5Dimes)

I have made this prop bet on several occasions throughout the college football postseason and NFL playoffs. With Baltimore’s defense vs. New England’s offense, I feel that we have a good shot of the Ravens forcing a field goal attempt on the Patriots' first foray into scoring territory. Flipping the matchups gives us an even better chance at a field goal attempt when the Ravens have the ball. We also have two solid kickers here, so any normal range field goal should go through the uprights. Plenty of value here at +155 with this prop.

NFL Playoff Gambling: AFC Championship Power Ratings

01.20.2012     01:51 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Las Vegas Hilton oddsmaker Jay Kornegay noted that his power rating for the AFC Championship was New England -6 but opened the game -7 and after a few bets was forced to move the line to -7.5. Sportsmemo handicapper Teddy Covers' power rating came out New England -6.5 while Rob Veno had New England -5.

"We went over all the ratings and came up with Patriots -6 initially," said LVH Super Book executive director Jay Kornegay who was one of the first to post the line in town. "We felt we’d test the waters a little bit with a key number and see where it drove us early on and posted it -7.

"Our first few bets came in on the Patriots and pushed the number quickly to -7½, so we were somewhat justified by the starting number," he added.

NFL Playoff Betting: 49ers and QB Alex Smith on amazing pointspread run at home

Submitted by Teddy Covers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Here’s a stat that not many people seem to have noticed. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith has been an absolute pointspread machine playing at home. Smith closed out 2009 on a 4-0 ATS run in his last four starts at Candlestick Park. Last year, despite injuries and a Mike Singletary benching, Smith was 4-1 ATS in his five starts at home. And this year, under Jim Harbaugh, Smith has been an ATS juggernaut on this field: 8-0-1 ATS in the 49ers nine previous home games.

Add it all up and we’re talking about a 16-1-1 ATS on this field; a pointspread run that has gone completely under-the-radar for the average sports fan and most sports bettors.

Las Vegas sportsbooks gear up for NFL Conference Championships

01.20.2012     06:53 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Las Vegas oddsmakers Jay Kornegay and Jay Rood weigh in on this weekend's conference championship games.

“The sharps can see through the fog screens and see that the 49ers are a very good team,” Kornegay said. “They’ve supported them more than the general public, but I’m not sure they’re going to support them here. I wouldn’t be surprised if the sharps and the public wound up on the Giants.”

“I imagine we’ll go into kickoff needing the Niners,” Rood said. “But it’s not really bad. We aren’t getting annihilated on either side. In the future book, we are fine.”

“We should get a lot of volume on this game,” Rood said. “From a public standpoint, it’s mostly Patriots. But from a professional standpoint, I think the sharps see value on the Ravens.”
