Sunday Night NFL Betting Preview: New York Giants at Dallas Cowboys

New York Giants at Dallas -4.5 O/U 50.5

Big battle in Big D Sunday Night with first place in the NFC East on the line. Dallas (7-5) really blew it at Arizona last week, losing in overtime after shutting down the Cardinals in the first half. But they remain in first place as the Giants (6-6) have lost four straight games while playing the toughest schedule in the league the second half of the season. These two teams will meet in the last week of the regular season as well, but this looks like a strong bounce back situation for the sometimes clueless Cowboys. Dallas is just 2-6-1 ATS as favorite recently and 4-10 ATS as division home favorite. But as I talk about often, this game will be won along the line of scrimmage and that’s where Dallas has the advantage. New York allows 127 rushing ypg and 4.6 ypr while the Giants offense is struggling in the ground game with just 84 rushing ypg at 3.3 ypr; both worst in the NFL. Dallas’ top-10 run Read more

NFL Handicapping Preview: Oakland Raiders at Green Bay Packers

Oakland at Green Bay 11.5 O/U 51.5

Something smells and I think it’s the cheese. The perfect Packers (12-0) continue to prosper and profit (8-4 ATS) despite being a public favorite every week. That’s what happens when you have the league MVP pulling the trigger and turning in one of the greatest seasons in NFL history. It doesn’t hurt to be +16 in turnovers; the league’s best TO margin. Rogers has thrown for over 3,800 yards with 37 TDs and just 5 INTs. Thanks to those gaudy numbers, the Packers have been able to overcome a suspect running game and poor defense. Look to the bottom of the defensive standings and you’ll see Green Bay just ahead of New England, as the Pack allow 298 ypg and 6.3 yards per play; the league’s worst. With teams often playing from behind, we’ll cut the Packers defense a little slack as they soften the coverage, but they also allow 4.9 yards per rush. Problem is, the Raiders allow 5.2 ypr Read more

NFL Betting Preview: Atlanta Falcons at Carolina Panthers

Atlanta -3 at Carolina O/U 47

The Falcons have let us down the past two weeks, but we’ll try to answer with them again this week. The Falcons should be plenty focused following a road loss last week and are currently tied for the NFC’s final playoff spot. Atlanta ran the ball 35 times for 166 yards in the first meeting with the Panthers, and you know what that means. A 31-17 SU/ATS win could be duplicated with another big ground game against a punchless Panthers defense that allows 132 rushing ypg and 4.6 ypr. Add in the league’s worst yards per pass attempt defense (8.4) and you can see why Cam Newton can’t carry Carolina himself. Newton has leveled off and has just 2 TDs and 5 INTs his past four games. He threw three INTs against Atlanta in the first meeting this year, and his scrambling could be slowed again as Atlanta has the league’s No. 3 run defense allowing just 90 rushing ypg. The Falcons are 4-0 SU off a loss this Read more

Handicapper Erin Rynning analyzes NFL Week 14 totals

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Sportsmemo Handicapper Erin Rynning contributed some thoughts and opinions on a couple of NFL totals for Week 14.

Houston Texans at Cincinnati Bengals -- UNDER 38
The transformation of the Texans is that they are all about the defense and running game. Unfortunately, they’ve lost Matt Schaub and rookie T.J. Yates is in control of the offense. Yates is somewhat capable, but they won’t be asking him to throw the ball 30 times a game. Stud wide receiver Andre Johnson is expected to miss this game as well.

Minnesota Vikings at Detroit Lions -- OVER 46.5
When Tim Tebow can tear up your secondary, you have problems! The Vikings have major issues in their secondary, and look for a monster day from Megatron. It helps that Matthew Stafford’s lost his glove as well. Last week, Stafford completed 70.5 percent of his passes, while throwing for more than 400 yards. The Lions signal-caller had really struggled with his accuracy, while wearing a throwing glove to protect a broken finger. Meanwhile, the Vikings hope to get game-breaker Adrian Peterson back in the fold.

NFL Gambling Preview: Kansas City Chiefs at New York Jets

Kansas City at New York Jets -10.5 O/U 36.5

The Chiefs ambushed the Bears last week in a 10-3 road win. But Chicago was without Jay Cutler and Matt Forte was injured in the first half. Kansas City only gained 252 yards on 3.6 yards per play. That was enough as KC’s average defense dominated a weakened Bears offense and held them to 181 yards and 3.3 yards per play. The Jets (7-5) remain in the playoff picture and I expect them to control the game up front with pressure and pound pathetic quarterback Tyler Palko with his noodle arm and poor decisions. The Chiefs offense has scored 10 or less points in their last five games, and their 7-1 ATS underdog log of late is in jeopardy as they will struggle to score vs. New York’s top-7 defense. Add in the Jets’ stronger special teams and this should be a big win for the home team if Mark Sanchez is even moderately successful in balancing the offense. The Jets have rushed for 138 and 101 Read more

Houston at Cincinnati -3 O/U 38.5

The Bengals (7-5) have fallen off the pace in the AFC North but are in a four-way tie for the final wild card spot. Despite a number of key injuries, the Texans (9-3) lead the AFC Sorth and are still in the running for a top-2 seed and first round bye. Houston wins and covers the way we discuss; by controlling the ball, clock and line of scrimmage on both sides. A top-notch ground game runs for 152 ypg to rank third in the NFL and the Texans defense is first in total yards allowed at just 274 ypg. Both the Texans (90 ypg) and Bengals (96 ypg) feature top-6 run defenses, but the Texans continue to win thanks to their strong play along the line of scrimmage and +12 turnover margin. The Bengals are -1 in TOs, but if they can slow the Houston ground game, perhaps they can create a few TOs from third string rookie QB T. J. Yates as he makes his first road start of the season. The absence of WR Andre Johnson could have a Read more

NFL Handicapping: Minnesota QB Ponder still questionable vs. Detroit

Minnesota at Detroit -10 O/U 46.5

Minnesota quarterback Christian Ponder was able to practice today but is still questionable for Sunday's game at Detroit. Back-up Joe Webb took most of the first-team snaps this week. Running back Adrian Peterson was also limited in practice due to a high ankle sprain. According to Sports Options, Peterson is doubtful.

"Christian, the fact that (Friday) was his first day, if we decided to go forward with him, we'd probably want to see him move around again after a slow day (in Saturday's walkthrough)."

"(Ponder) still has some soreness," Frazier said. "But being able to see him drop back, deliver the ball, have his accuracy, moving around a little bit -- that was encouraging, because (Thursday), he was pretty stiff, but his movement was much better (Friday). So, Read more

Philadelphia at Miami -3 O/U 45.5

Philadelphia quarterback Michael Vick is listed a probable for Sunday's game at Miami. Vick had been out for three weeks with broken ribs. The Eagles are also expected to get back Jeremy Maclin, who also missed the past three games. Cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie is questionable with an ankle injury.

Miami has covered six straight games while Philadelphia is in the midst of a 1-4 SU/ATS slide.

NFL Handicapping: Tampa gets back to the basics with offense and defense

Tampa Bay -2 at Jacksonville O/U 39

In the midst of a six-game losing streak, in which they've averaged 17.5 ppg and allowed 30.6 ppg, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will simplify both their offensive and defensive gameplans for Sunday's matchup against Jacksonville. The team is optimistic quarterback Josh Freeman will play after missing last week with a shoulder injury.

"We've got to start sticking to stuff we do good," said Bucs offensive lineman Donald Penn. "When we do call those things we have to excel at it. We've got to get something going. We want to get this bad taste out of our mouth. Everybody is a little down. We need to have a little bit more fun. That is what this game is all Read more

Pittsburgh’s Hines Ward OVER 3 CATCHES

Ward is 10 catches shy of 1,000 for his career and they have been working to get him the ball with four and five catches the last two games. If the Steelers are running the no-huddle and Big Ben is calling the plays this should help as well. Finally, Joe Haden is expected to cover Mike Wallace the bulk of the game. Good Luck!
