Boise State at Washington
Saturday, 7 pm PT - FS1
CRIS Opener:
Washington -5.5 O/U 52.5
CRIS Current: Washington -3.5 O/U 53
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Washington -0.5
Ian Cameron's Recommendation: Boise State

The Washington Huskies will play their first game in newly renovated Husky Stadium on Saturday night as they host the Boise State Broncos in a rematch of last year’s Las Vegas Bowl. Boise won that game 28-26 but failed to cover as 4.5-point favorites.

The Broncos will have quarterback Joe Southwick back for his second year as the starter. He started out slowly last year but gradually improved as the season progressed throwing for 2,730 yards on 66.8% completions and a 19-7 TD-INT ratio. He will have his top two receiving targets back in Matt Miller and Kirby Moore who combined for 102 receptions, more than 1,100 yards, and 6 TDs last season. They did lose their top Read more

Boise State at Washington -3.5 O/U 52.5

Not a huge sample size but worth noting: Home favorites facing teams they lost to in a bowl game the previous season are 7-1 SU but only 1-6-1 ATS. The margins are those eight games were 10, 3, 10, 4, 5, 3, 1, and 13. Saturday's Washington-Boise State game fits those parameters. The Broncos beat the Huskies 28-26 in the Las Vegas Bowl. UW is currently a 3.5-point home favorite.

Northern Illinois vs. Florida State -13 O/U 58

Northern Illinois quarterback Jordan Lynch wasn't shy about throwing a little trash talk Florida State's way.

"They're fast, they're physical," Lynch said about FSU's defense in a story published Thursday afternoon by Sporting News, "but they haven't seen anything like our offense."

"We plan on wearing them down. In the fourth quarter, we plan to have them on their knees — and then just keep pounding away.

"They're just like us. They're human, too. If you cut them, they bleed."

Northern Illinois' berth in the Sugar Bowl marks the eighth BCS bowl appearance for a non-AQ school all-time. If you eliminate 2010's Boise State-TCU matchup, non-BCS conference teams are 4-1 SU, 3-2 ATS. 5Dimes opened Florida State -14 but some early NIU support has the line now at 13.5 at 5Dimes, Heritage and BetOnline.

2004-05: Utah (-14) 35, Pittsburgh 7

2006-07: Boise State (+7) 43, Oklahoma 42 OT

2007-08: Hawaii 10, Georgia (-9) 41

2008-09: Utah (+9.5) 31, Alabama 17

2009-10: Boise State (+7) 17, TCU 10

Northern Illinois vs. Kent State
Friday, 4 pm PT, Detroit - ESPN2
CRIS Opener:
Northern Illinois -5 O/U 58
CRIS Current: Northern Illinois -6 O/U 58
Rob Veno's Power Rating: Kent State pk

The MAC Championship returns to the fast track at Ford Field this week for what should be an exciting game. Both Kent State (East Division winner) and Northern Illinois (West Division winner) have been on fire this year; both teams are 11-1 SU and both have been a bettor’s dream going a combined 19-4 ATS. So what got these teams here and who can we expect to hoist the trophy at the end of the day?

The secret to the success of NIU and Kent State is simple really; they play solid defense and they employ dominating ground attacks. Looking at the individual teams we see a number of key factors that have sparked this winning formula. For the Huskies, they finished second in scoring defense and third in total Read more

College Football Betting Preview: Washington Huskies at Arizona Wildcats

Andrew Lange’s Recommendation:
Arizona
Saturday, 7 pm PT
CRIS Opener:
Arizona -6 O/U 62
CRIS Current: Arizona -7.5 O/U 63.5
Rob Veno’s Power Rating: Arizona -4

Arizona has surprised me this season. When a new coach arrives and brings a completely new system, it can take a full year or more for things to click. Offensively, the transition to Rich Rodriquez hasn’t been an issue for the Cats. There have been some hiccups (turnovers and missed FGs vs. Toledo; red zone snafus vs. Oregon) but in terms of the season as a whole, we’re talking about one of the best offenses in the country (551.3 ypg). Defensively is where the Wildcats have had their issues and it isn’t necessarily trying to figure out a system but rather a lack of depth.  Opposing offenses have been able to move the ball at will which is part of the reason why UA enter Read more

College Football Betting Preview: USC Trojans at Washington Huskies

USC
Saturday, 4 pm PT - FOX
CRIS Opener:
USC -13.5 O/U 54
CRIS Current: USC -12 O/U 55
Rob Veno's Power Rating: USC -12.5

Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian taking on USC is always an interesting sidebar. His Huskies upset USC in his first two seasons as double-digit underdogs but last year in that same role, they were clobbered 40-17. UW was outgained in total yardage 426-244 and more importantly they were physically dominated at the point of attack being outrushed 252-46. Even with now graduated star running back Chris Polk, the Huskies could not get anything going on the ground. This season’s ground attack has not proven to be anywhere near the level of last year’s averaging just 3.7 ypc and the same can be said for the passing game which is currently averaging 72 yards less per game than it did in 2011. With their offense exceeding 21 Read more

College Football Handicapping: Are betting consensus websites helpful?

Stanford -6.5 at Washington O/U 48

As a bettor, I'm not really sure what to make of betting consensus websites. For starters, everyone has a different number. Thursday's Stanford-Washington game ranges from 56% to 66% on the Cardinal based on the three opinions I found – I’m sure there are many more. Where they are getting these numbers and from whom, I have no idea. Who do they consider to be the "public?" Is it guys who don't bet? Medium-sized players? Credit players at Pinnacle who bet four figures a game? I mean, it is always nice to hear that 65% of the "public" is on a single-event NFL underdog but beyond that profile, I don't think I've ever let a consensus percentage sway my opinion of a game. That being said, I did happen to stumble upon a pretty telling quote from SB Nation's Stanford-Washington preview.

"The 7-point spread was bet down to -6.5 at most shops we track, but we are still seeing near two-thirds of the betting action on Stanford, according to the consensus data we gather from sportsbooks," said Jack Randall of OddsShark.com.

College Football Betting Preview: Washington Huskies at LSU Tigers

Saturday, 4 pm PT - ESPN
CRIS Opener:
LSU -23 O/U 56
CRIS Current: LSU -24 O/U 53
Rob Veno's Power Rating: LSU -23.5

Washington makes a rare trip to the East Coast to play LSU in a big non-conference clash on Saturday night on ESPN. The last meeting between these teams took place in 2009 in Seattle with LSU winning 31-23.

The Washington offense enters this game off a mediocre performance in Week 1’s win over San Diego State. Quarterback Keith Price and the offense saw multiple drives stall in Aztecs territory and the offense only accounted for 14 of the team's 21 points. They'll be facing a vaunted LSU defense but maybe not one that was adequately tested by North Texas last week. I think the door is open for Washington to have at least a decent showing on offense as one of the few weaknesses defensively for the Tigers is their Read more
