NCAAF Betting Notes: East Carolina offense short on healthy bodies

11.15.2011     01:51 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Central Florida -7 at East Carolina O/U 51

Some injuries of note for East Carolina who offensively don't have many healthy bodies with the exception of quarterback Dominique Davis. Head coach Ruffin McNeill noted that the offense had yet to start the same group twice this season.

Upgraded to questionable after a five-game absence is left guard Adhem Elsawi (knee), and center Doug Polochak (knee) is also questionable. Starting right tackle Grant Harner (ankle) remains doubtful after sitting out the UTEP game.

“Justin Jones is a guy that we’ve missed and he’ll be back,” McNeill said of the ECU offense, which has not started the same 11 players in any game this season. “They’ve got a cast where now he can use (his hand), and the healing process has continued so we’ll be able to use more of our Read more

College Football Gambling: Texas Longhorns offense not in good shape

Kansas State at Texas -9.5 O/U 53.5

Well that didn't work. Texas' new found run-game went AWOL last week at Missouri as the Tigers held the Longhorns to 76 yards on the ground. And while UT was racking up huge yards with two true freshmen running backs against Texas Tech and Kansas, both are currently nursing injuries because of the increased workload. Also banged up is receiver Jaxon Shipley (33 catches, 438 yards) who missed last week's game is questionable for this weekend. Add in the loss of running back Fozzy Whittaker and you got an offense that doesn't have much weaponry.

We thought one of the two or both of the young tailbacks would play. So we were caught off guard. Shouldn't have been. Should have planned for that better, and then we didn't do a very good job of handling all of that I don't think on game Read more

Louisville Cardinals burn bettors after overdosing on video game

Louisville at Connecticut pk O/U 40.5

If you had a losing ticket with Louisville last week, don't toss blame head coach Charlie Strong's way. Blame it on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Damn kids.

“I said on Tuesday we have guys that miss class because they want to stay (up) all night and play that video game, whatever it was,” Strong said Monday at his weekly news conference. “I didn’t even know what it was, but it’s such a big deal.”

Receiver Damian Copeland tweeted at Smith: “Boi You Know U A Gamer When U have To Tape Your Fingers Up Before You Play The Game” — that was in reference to Read more

LSU Tigers would be -10.5 favorites vs. Georgia Bulldogs in SEC Championship

11.14.2011     01:59 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
By no means a lock to occur, but if things play out the way they should, the SEC Championship will feature Georgia from the East and LSU from the West. Assuming the matchup does take place, Caesars oddsmaker Todd Fuhrman projects the line to be LSU -10.5. The game of course takes place in Atlanta but Fuhrman noted that the championship setting wouldn't give the Bulldogs much of any home proximity advantage.

“A couple of weeks ago I think most of us would’ve said LSU would be close to a two-touchdown favorite. But their offense has struggled some the last couple of weeks and Georgia’s defense is playing well, especially against the run, like they showed in the Auburn game. If LSU can’t run, they’re going to have problems.”

NCAAF Betting Notes: Cincinnati turns to dual-threat quarterback Legaux

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Cincinnati -3 at Rutgers

Cincinnati quarterback Zach Collaros is out for the rest of the season after breaking his ankle in last week's loss to West Virginia. The Bearcats (3-1) remain atop the Big East standings but a host of other teams enter the week only a half-game back.  Munchie Legaux will take over for Collaros the rest of the way. Legaux finished 10-of-21 for 144 yards and an interception against the Mountaineers. He's not as polished a passer as Collaros, but was recruited as more of a dual-threat – 77 yards on the ground vs. WVU. According to Cinci's coaches, they plan to open up the offense even more to accommodate Legaux's skill set.

"Probably we'll open it up," he said. "That may seem hard to imagine, but we may open it up because not only can he throw the football, Read more

List of BCS Conference football teams playing their final home games of the regular season this week. We'll do the small conferences tomorrow. Home teams listed first.

Mississippi vs. LSU -28.5 - Any thought that the Rebels might rally around Houston Nutt were squashed last week when Louisiana Tech strolled into Oxford and dominated start to finish.

Georgia -28 vs. Kentucky - Georgia one win away from a trip to the SEC Championship.

Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt -1.5 - Some may be shocked to see Vanderbilt favored in this spot but the statistics tell of Read more

NCAAF Handicapper Free Play: Arizona State Sun Devils at Washington State Cougars

Arizona State -11.5 at Washington State O/U 60.5
Recommendation: Under

The Sun Devils might have to just go by the Devils tonight because the weather will be the total opposite of sunny in Pullman tonight.  In fact, Arizona State may have to bring its snow shoes. The weather report is calling for 33 degrees to start the game with snow or snow showers and wind.  This will give us a strong head start to siding with the UNDER in this contest.  In addition, it’s sweet to have the hard hitting Arizona State defense on our side.  The defense felt they let the team down last week against UCLA by allowing the winning drive.  Look for the defense to play with a chip on their shoulder this week.  Arizona State has also relied on the run of late, and with the conditions looking look for a ton of Cameron Marshal in the game plan.  Meanwhile, the quick strike and high scoring offense the Cougars showed early against Idaho Read more

College Football Handicapping: Minnesota simplifies playbook, actually scores points

11.11.2011     11:48 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Wisconsin -27 at Minnesota O/U 63.5

Nice little tidbit on the offensive adjustments Minnesota made during its mid-October bye week. They were blasted on the road against Nebraska but returned home and upset Iowa and then nearly did the same at Michigan State – all the while moving the ball at a fairly decent rate. According to the coaches, the Golden Gophers all but did away with the playbook, relying instead on a keep-it-simple-stupid formula. Quarterback MarQueis Gray, who earlier in the year looked completely overwhelmed with running an offense, has actually looked the part of late. The last two weeks, he averaged 11.4 and 9.2 yards per attempt with four touchdowns and 61% completions.

"We had so much in there, we weren't good at anything. As a staff, we kind of had a heart-to-heart and said, we don't have anything we execute well," Read more

Isolating College Football pointspread winners using running game success

We cashed our 20* College Football Game of the Year winner last Saturday when Virginia (-2.5) steamrolled Maryland 31-13 with 220 rushing yards and 527 total yards offense. The Cavaliers dominance at the point of attack while outrushing Maryland by at least a 2-to-1 margin played out perfectly in Virginia’s victory.

If you’ve been following along the past few months and reading my articles, you’re aware that I’ve discussed and reviewed running game success in college football. If you’re able to handicap a game and determine that one team will have a significant advantage at the point of attack and outrush their opponent by margin, you’re well on your way to producing more profit and building your bankroll. Teams that outrush their opponent by at least a 2-to-1 margin have won just over 78% ATS this season (sample size over 230 games). This is no fluke, as last season produced very similar overall rushing results, with a 74% ATS win rate four our parameters (sample size nearly 300 games).

In MAC play this week, we delivered our third straight Tuesday night college football winner when Northern Illinois steamrolled Read more
