College Football Betting: Texas Tech banged up along offensive line

Texas Tech at Baylor -2.5 O/U 78

Texas Tech with some offensive line concerns heading into Saturday's matchup at Baylor.

“We’ve got five days to figure out a combination to protect and be able to throw,” Tuberville said, “because we’ve got to be able to throw the ball this week — we all know that — to have a chance. But the number-one thing is I don’t want the quarterback on his back every time he throws it.”

Oddsmakers weigh in on potential Notre Dame-Alabama BCS title game

They are already talking about a Notre Dame-Alabama BCS National Championship. Still a lot of football left to be played but let's assume that's the matchup. What's the line? According to Kenny White, Alabama would be -7. Jimmy Vaccaro said he'd make the game -10.5/-11 and with it likely to close around -13.

“Obviously, from a business standpoint, we’re rooting for an Alabama-Notre Dame matchup to become a reality,” Vaccaro told The Linemakers on Sporting News. ”If we get that game with the intrigue already built in between the two storied programs, and the length of time that it will be on the board from early December to almost mid-January, it will be the single biggest handle on any college football game ever booked.”

Notre Dame at USC

Three weeks ago, Notre Dame needed two overtimes to dispose of Pittsburgh. Now the Irish are one game away for a BCS title game berth. And they score a huge break with USC's Matt Barkley ruled out for Saturday's contest. Max Wittek will start in his place. Sportsbooks have yet to post a line on the game. According to Sportsmemo Handicapper Teddy Covers, the Irish project to be at  least a touchdown favorite.

College Football Betting: Miami (FL) bans itself from postseason play

Miami (FL) -5 at Duke

In a weird and surprisingly honest turn of events, Miami has decided to ban itself from this year’s postseason. Saturday’s game against Duke was supposed to be the Hurricanes' ticket to the ACC Championship – win and you’re in. Instead, we now have a Florida State-Georgia Tech matchup.

"Come at me. Bury me all you want. Attack me all you want," Golden said. "These kids who have stuck it out, who have stayed here, who have never gotten one week in two years without hearing about all this nonsense, don't blame them. And I appreciate all those kids that not only stayed here, but those guys that answered the bell, that answered the call to come here and fix this. And we will get it fixed."

Teddy Covers’ Recommendation: Oregon State

Jeff Tedford has been a great head coach for Cal during his eleven years on the job. Let’s not forget that before he got here, the Bears went 1-10 in 2000, 3-8 in 2000 and 4-7 in 1999; an absolute bottom feeder throughout the Tom Holmoe era. Cal’s gone bowling in nine of their last ten seasons, and spent several years competing with the likes of USC and Oregon for PAC-10 (at the time) supremacy.

But this year has been a disaster for the Bears, right from the get-go when they lost at home to Nevada in their opener. The Bears are 3-8; their worst record in the Tedford era by a wide margin. They’ve lost four straight including last week’s backbreaker at home against Oregon – a game in which they competed for a half, then fell completely apart after halftime. This is a truly meaningless season finale on the road for a losing team with an Read more

College Football Handicapping: Minnesota's o-line limps into matchup at Nebraska

Minnesota at Nebraska -20 O/U 53

Minnesota's offensive line looks to be an absolute mess heading into Saturday's game at Nebraska.

“I mean at the end of the day you just want to see (the players) feel good for all the things they put into it,” Kill said. “So they felt good about it, but as a coach, we’re in the coaching deal trying to figure out what are we going to do at center. “We’re going to Lincoln, Neb. You’re already working ahead. That’s the tough thing about coaching. You don’t get a chance to step back and, boy this is great, because you gotta move forward. We got two games left and we gotta keep getting better and we gotta find a way to keep some healthy bodies out there.”

South Florida at Miami (FL) -6.5 O/U 56.5

With BJ Daniels out, USF head coach Skip Holtz has yet to commit to a starting quarterback for Saturday's game at Miami. One of the potential candidates, Bobby Eveld, spelled an injured Daniels during the Bulls' 23-20 overtime win over the Hurricanes two years ago. Miami won last year’s meeting, 6-3.

"We've got an obligation to put the best quarterback on the field, the one that gives us the best opportunity to win," Holtz said. "As much as it's the opponent, it's the game experience. Being able to go on the road and lead a team in overtime to victory and make some of the plays [Eveld] did, that sits in the back. It's still about who gives you the best chance to win by protecting the ball, but that's one of those intangible things that has to lean in Bobby's favor with his Read more

Sportsbook thinks there is little chance Lee Corso is picking Stanford to beat Oregon

11.16.2012     06:19 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Step right up and take your chances with this weekend's ESPN College GameDay prop bet courtesy of 5Dimes. Let's see, in one corner we have Lee Corso picking Oregon to win at -6000, and in the other, Corso taking 20.5-point underdog Stanford at +2000. We stumbled upon a website dedicated to Corso's track record as prognosticator. As of last week, he's 151-69, 68.6% lifetime.

Speaking of the Ducks, they're +120 to win the BCS National Championship. Kansas State is +230 followed by Notre Dame +500 and Alabama +600.
