Florida State injuries spark betting frenzy on Clemson

09.21.2011     06:56 AM     Printer Friendly
Check out the line move on this weekend's Florida State-Clemson game. The Seminoles of course are a banged up football team. Quarterback EJ Manuel is questionable and the entire wide receivers corps is essentially gone. And as Teddy Covers pointed out in the Sportsmemo Posting Forum, a lot of time and effort went into last week's game against Oklahoma and now the Seminoles have a big road test. On the flip side, bettors must also consider Clemson's mindset after handing Auburn its first loss in two years. College Football ATS Preview: Nebraska Cornhuskers at Wyoming Cowboys

Nebraska at Wyoming (4:30 pm PT, Versus)
CRIS Opening Line: Nebraska -23.5 O/U 56.5
CRIS Current Line: Nebraska -23.5 O/U 59
Rob Veno Power Rating: Nebraska -24

Andrew Lange’s Betting Take: The past two weeks, my analysis on Nebraska has centered on focus or lack thereof. The team looked awfully stagnant in their Week 2 win over Fresno State and I chalked it up to testing out new schemes and trying to find an identity. But after last week’s lackluster non-spread covering win over Fresno State, my concerns are more than just the team’s mindset. Despite some so-so play from quarterback Taylor Martinez, the offense has at times looked sharp. Some of that was because they were able to just Read more

College Football Betting Notes: Tulsa's Kinne unlikely to play at Boise State

Tulsa at Boise State -32.5 O/U 62.5

No official word on Tulsa quarterback GJ Kinne's status for Saturday's game at Boise State. Reports say that Kinne suffered a Grade II MLC tear against Oklahoma State which according one local Tulsa doctor can take 2-4 weeks to heal. Head coach Bill Blankenship continues mum on the issue, going so far as to say the Kinne is "day to day". If Kinnie is unable to go, which looks to be the case, the Golden Hurricane will go with redshirt freshman Kalen Henderson.

NCAAF Gambling Notes: Boston College shouldn't look past UMass

09.20.2011     01:21 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Interesting matchup for those who follow the extra board with Boston College playing host to UMass. BC head coach Frank Spaziani is taking a ton of heat for his team's 0-3 start. The Eagles have lost nine of their last 14 games dating back to last season and are currently dealing with a slew of key injuries. Saturday's game against the Minutemen looks to be a good shot at breaking into the win column but it won't come easy. UMass comes from arguably the toughest conference in the FCS (Colonial) and last season lost at Michigan, 42-37. The Minutemen are in a unique situation of transitioning to the FBS (will join the MAC) and are not eligible for this year's postseason. Obviously there are concerns about the team's focus from a year-long perspective, and Read more

College Football ATS Notes: Dantonio says Michigan State will pound football

09.20.2011     12:27 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Central Michigan at Michigan State -24 O/U 49.5

Michigan State will be without three offensive linemen for Saturday's game against Central Michigan. Starting right tackle Skyler Burkland (ankle) is out for the year and starting center Blake Treadwell and reserve tackle Jared McGaha are both out with knee sprains.

Despite the injury concerns, head coach Mark Dantonio is not making any excuses. After rushing for 29 yards on 23 carries in the loss to Notre Dame, Dantonio made it clear that the Spartans are going to get back to pounding the football. Central Michigan's numbers look decent against the run (125.3 ypg) but none of its first three Read more

NCAAF Betting Alert: New Mexico State starting quarterback out for the year

09.20.2011     11:04 AM     Printer Friendly
New Mexico State at San Jose State -9.5 O/U 45.5

It was announced today that New Mexico State sophomore quarterback Andrew Manley tore his ACL and will miss the remainder of the season. Manley had thrown for nearly 900 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions in three games. As we saw in the win at Minnesota, he provided the Aggies with a viable means of moving the football. NMSU must now turn to senior Matt Christian who played in eight games last year. Despite an 8 TD-to-2 INT ratio, Christian wasn't overly effective, completing just 48% of his passes (5.8 yards per attempt). Still, there doesn't expect to be that significant of a drop-off with Christian now under center. Interesting that this week's opponent, San Read more

NCAAF Pointspread Preview: Central Florida Knights at BYU Cougars

Central Florida at BYU (Friday, 5 pm PT – ESPN)
CRIS Opening Line: BYU -3.5 O/U 43.5
CRIS Current Line: BYU -2.5 O/U 43

Andrew Lange’s Betting Take: BYU’s stock to a huge hit following last week’s blowout loss to rival Utah. The Cougars were outscored 40-0 in the second half and as a result, we are seeing what appears to be a heavily discounted price on Saturday’s matchup. Central Florida is a good team with athletes and speed, but traveling cross country to a tough environment where an outright win will likely be needed to cover the spread won’t be easy. Had BYU won or at least been competitive against Utah, I think we’d be seeing a -6 or even a full -7 on this game. But the reality Read more

College Football Gambling: Seven teams take to the road for the first time

09.20.2011     09:30 AM     Rob Veno     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Rob Veno

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
This week there are seven teams making their first road trip of the season and in each case there are some difficult hurdles to overcome.

Arkansas +11.5 @ Alabama – Tough two-game stretch for the Hogs who have this revenge game followed by a neutral site game (@ Arlington, TX) with revenge seeking Texas A&M (Arkansas won 24-17 in Cowboys Stadium last year).

Florida -19.5 @ Kentucky – Sure Kentucky has been abysmal on offense this season but with a  home game on deck against Alabama and a road game at LSU the following week, the Gators’ focus for this Saturday could be questioned.

Florida State -1.5 @ Clemson – The ACC Atlantic Division Read more

NCAAF Betting Notes: Injuries thin out Colorado State depth chart

09.20.2011     08:48 AM     Printer Friendly
Colorado State at Utah State -9.5 O/U 56

Colorado State has been hit with a wave of injuries, most of which of the knee variety. Last week, they lost starting offensive tackle Joe Caprioglio for what looks to be the entire season. It marked the third straight week a CSU starter was lost due to injury. Perhaps keying in on depletion of Colorado State's roster, bettors hammered Utah State up from a 6.5-point favorite to as high as -9.5 for Saturday's game.

"That's extreme," said running backs and special teams coach Larry Lewis, who had to restructure his camp last week when Gillmore and Levin went down against UNC. Fairchild has no answers to the why or how (some of the injuries haven't Read more
