NBA Handicapping: Oklahoma City needs win and New Orleans loss to reach postseason

04.15.2015     07:59 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Oklahoma City needs some help tonight in order to secure the 8th seed in the Western Conference. New Orleans, who plays host to San Antonio, holds the tiebreaker. The Thunder need to beat Minnesota and hope the Pelicans lose to the Spurs.

"We're going to need some help from San Antonio," he said. "I've always been a Pop fan, and [on Wednesday] I'll be even more of a Pop fan."

"We just have to focus on winning the game," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. "It's a one-game season for us. We have to go up to Minnesota and beat them. We're going to have to play for 48 minutes. We can't worry about what's happening in New Orleans. We have to just focus on what we do. They have a tough matchup. We have a tough matchup. Every team in this league, if you don't take them seriously, can beat you. We're just going to focus on playing good basketball and take care of our business. Hopefully, we get some help down south of us."

NBA Handicapping: Spurs and Pelicans with a ton to play for

04.15.2015     07:46 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Extremely important regular season finale tonight with San Antonio headed to New Orleans. The Spurs, who have won 11 games in a row, need to win in order to grab the no. 2 seed. Lose, and they could fall as low as the no. 6 seed depending on how the rest of the night shakes out. As for the Pelicans, it's win-and-you're-in. They own the tiebreaker over Oklahoma City who plays at Minnesota.

“We have to embrace this,” said Williams Wednesday night. “There’s going to nerves, fear, a lot of questions. Can I do it, am I ready? You have to embrace all of that. That is part of it.”

“We have dealt with more emotion, big losses, big wins, our guys are fine,” said the Pelicans head coach Tuesday. “They know they have to go out and execute. They know it is a cool time.”

NBA Handicapping: Wizards put beating Pacers on to-do list

04.14.2015     06:56 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
With two games remaining in the regular season, the Indiana Pacers hold a half-game lead over the Brooklyn Nets for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. Tonight's opponent, the Washington Wizards, have nothing to play for as they are locked into the fifth seed. However, the Wizards claim they'll be in "full effort mode." The betting markets though aren't buying in as Indiana was bet up from -4.5 to -9.

"We got a rivalry with them," said Wall, who remembers vividly how their season ended in Game 6 of the East semis in a home loss to the Pacers. "We feel like we owe them from last year."

“We have to approach them like this is a team like Brooklyn. They are fighting for their spot," Beal said. "They are going to be aggressive and hungry. We have to approach it like a playoff game like we have done these last six and seven games. We know it is not going to be easy. We have to come out ready to go and be aggressive with the mind-set knowing that they are going

NBA Gambling: Miami Heat really good at having horrifically bad quarters

04.10.2015     07:37 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Two weeks removed from producing one of the biggest meltdowns of the season, the Miami Heat are back to kicking bettors in the groin. With a 51-32 halftime lead over the Chicago Bulls, the Heat appears well on their way to a critical win. But that's when things got messy. Chicago somehow outscored Miami 33-8 in the third quarter and at one point lead by as many as 12 in the fourth quarter. Miami is now 1.5 games out of the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference.

“We’re all frustrated when you’re in those situations. and you can’t stop an avalanche like that, but the only answer is in that locker room, and we haven’t figured out a way to hold the fort in those situations,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said.

Important game in the Eastern Conference as Chicago heads to Miami. The Bulls are currently tied with Toronto for the third seed while the Heat, losers of seven of their last 10, sit a game out of the eight spot.

“We know where we stand,” said guard Dwyane Wade, who had 19 points. “We’ve got some tough games (left) and we have an opportunity to give ourselves a great chance by the way we play – especially here at home.”

NBA Betting News: Chicago's Derrick Rose set to return

04.08.2015     07:50 AM     Printer Friendly blog entry.
Chicago's Derrick Rose is expected to make his return tonight after missing the last six weeks with another knee injury. The Bulls currently hold the third spot in the Eastern Conference; a game ahead of Toronto. They're 8-point road favorites against Orlando tonight.

"Just him being on the floor is a plus for our team," Thibodeau said. "I'm not expecting him to play 35 minutes. I'm not expecting him to score 30 points. Just go out there, run the team, play to your strengths, cover up your weaknesses, make your teammates better. That's all I want him to do."
