NBA Gambling News: Kobe Bryant currently a game-time decision vs. Indiana

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
LA Lakers at Indiana -9.5 O/U 190

You probably read a bunch of articles on Kobe Bryant's ankle injury – the most common used phrase in describing it was out indefinitely. That was a day ago. Now word has surfaced that Bryant is a game-time decision for tonight's game against Indiana. The Lakers are currently a game and a half ahead of Utah for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

"He's getting treatment," Lakers coach Mike D'Antoni said after the team's shootaround Friday. "Obviously he'll get better every day, and we'll see. When he can go, he'll go."

NBA Handicapper Free Pick: Brooklyn Nets at Indiana Pacers

Brooklyn at Indiana -8.5 O/U 183
Recommendation: Indiana

Brooklyn is falling apart before our eyes.  They’ve lost six of nine, snapping any momentum they had gained from their strong run when PJ Carlesimo initially took over for Avery Johnson as the head coach.  The worst part of the Nets recent decline has been their complete lack of effort once they fall behind.  Their six losses during this skid have come by 25, 15, 9, 20, 13 and 24 points.  In other words, when things start to go south for this team, they tend to go south in a hurry!

Nets shooting guard Joe Johnson doesn’t sound too convinced that his team will be able to turn it around on the second night of back-to-backs on the road against an elite level foe.  Shooting guard Joe Johnson: “I don't know what it is, but you know, it just seems when a team makes a run on us, man, it just takes the air out of us. It shouldn't be that way. We should be able to respond, but it hasn't Read more

NBA Betting Notes: Boston's lack of team defense leads to 2-9 ATS skid

Indiana at Boston -2.5 O/U 180.5

Boston's defense has been mediocre for much of the year but of late, it's been atrocious. Seven of their last 11 opponents have topped 100 points and to no surprise the Celtics covered only two of those contests.

“We’re not playing it (defense),” the point guard said following the Celtics loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday. “I don’t know (why). We’ve just got to try to take it one step at a time. It starts with me so I’ve just got to hold myself more accountable….

“Just our trust, our trust isn’t there,” he said. “When we do make a mistake, we don’t make up for one another. In the past, a guy may be off the dribble or a guy might have an open shot, a guy might run from no matter where and cover up Read more

NBA Handicapping: Miami looks to close out series against Indiana

Miami -3 at Indiana O/U 182

Miami is a 3-point road favorite as it tries to close out its series with Indiana tonight. Heat forwards Udonis Haslem and Dexter Pittman are both suspended for Game 6. Add in the Chris Bosh injury and there may be a Eddy Curry sighting. Meanwhile, Pacers president Larry Bird wasn't shy about calling is team "soft" following Tuesday's 115-83 blowout loss.

"I agree with his assessment. We did play soft," Indiana's Danny Granger said Wednesday. "We got smacked around. We got beat up, we got bullied, and we really didn't respond well.

"I've been with Larry since I've been in Indiana for seven years," Granger Read more

Miami Heat remain series betting favorite despite 2-1 deficit

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
This quote pretty much sums up the current state of the Miami Heat after getting destroyed by Indiana last night, 94-74... “Get out of my [expletive] face!” Wade snapped.

The Pacers now hold a 2-1 series lead. Miami, who opened the series as a -900 favorite, remains the chalk albeit at the much shorter price of -135.

Miami results off of two straight losses (5-1 SU/ATS) this season
100-67 Win (-9) vs. New York
105-82 Win (-15.5) vs. Charlotte
106-85 Win (-8) vs. Dallas
84-78 Win (-4) at Philadelphia
108-78 Win (-13.5) vs. New Jersey
104-117 Loss (-3.5) at Denver

NBA Playoff Gambling Notes: Miami-Indiana Game 3 critical for series outcome

05.17.2012     12:55 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Some historical NBA Playoff best-of-seven results to consider.

Best-of-seven series in which the first two games were split have been won by the Game 3 winner 77 percent of the time (143 out of 187). It would seem to be even more critical for the Pacers than the Heat. If the visiting team wins Game 3 in a 1-1 series, that team has gone on to win the series 83 percent of the time. When the home team wins Game 3 in this scenario, it wins the series 71 percent of the time (74 of 104).

Miami opened a -900 series favorite over Indiana. After the Pacers won Game 2, oddsmakers adjusted the line to Miami -300. The Heat opened -1 and were bet up to -2 for tonight’s Game 3.

NBA Playoff Betting Notes: Miami now -6.5 vs. Indiana for Game 2

Indiana at Miami -6.5 O/U 186

Some news and notes on tonight's Game 2 matchup between Indiana and Miami.

Indiana head coach Frank Vogel didn't blame the refs for Game 1's loss but he willingly took a fine to let them know the Heat do a lot of flopping.

‘(The Heat) are the biggest flopping team in the NBA,’ Vogel said to the media Thursday. ‘It’ll be very interesting to see how the referees officiate the series and how much flopping they reward. Every drive to the basket, they have guys not making a play on the ball,’ Vogel continued, ‘but sliding in front of drivers. Oftentimes they’re falling down even before contact is even being made.’”

NBA Gambling Notes: Chicago Bulls clinch top seed in the East

Chicago at Indiana

Miami's loss to Boston last night helped the Chicago Bulls clinch the top seed in the Eastern Conference. The Bulls are tied with San Antonio (and own the tiebreaker) for the best record in the league with two games to play.

"We’d like to have home court all the way throughout," Carlos Boozer said. "If we have a Game 7, we’d like to have it in our building. We believe in ourselves. We’re confident what we can do."

"We don’t want to jump to the playoffs now," Thibodeau said. "We want to get ready for Indiana, have a good walkthrough, go step-by-step. That’s been our approach all year and we don’t want to change that. Home court doesn’t guarantee anything. You still have to play well."

NBA Handicapping: Loss to Washington puts Milwaukee on the brink

Milwaukee at Indiana -5.5 O/U 205.5

Last night's loss to Washington may have been the final nail in the coffin for the Milwaukee Bucks who now trail Philadelphia by 2.5 games for the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference. The Bucks have five games remaining including next Wednesday vs. the 76ers (whoever wins will own the tiebreaker). Tonight's opponent, Indiana, has won and covered both meetings this season.

"It's tough to lose games against teams that are not in the fight or in the race for the playoffs. Then again, we can't say this is the most disappointing loss of the season," he said. "It shouldn't have come down to this game or the next game."

"It's an absolute must-win for us. We have to find a way to get that game," Skiles said.
