NBA Playoff Betting Recap: Chicago Bulls stun Miami Heat in Game 1

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Submitted by Stat Intelligence

Today was the day for my annual eye check. Which, apparently, I only do once every five years because I had fallen out of their records at the doctor’s office. Given the goop they drop in, and the stuff they do to confirm that you’re getting older, things were still a little bit blurred and streaky tonight. And, THEN the Chicago/Miami game Monday night turned into something where you couldn’t believe your eyes…

Chicago 93, Miami 86

2-Point Percentage: Chicago 45%, Miami 44%

3-Point Shooting: Chicago 7/18, Miami 7/24

Free Throws: Chicago 24/29, Miami 17/25

1’s and 2’s: Chicago 72, Miami 65

Rebounds: Chicago 46, Miami 32

Turnovers: Chicago 15, Miami 8

Great to see Chicago’s passion and intensity continue. It’s very easy to lose a step after climbing a mountain. Chicago climbed a bigger mountain! At least for one night.

You know…we’ve seen Miami Read more

You regulars are familiar with the KRIB Index that we invented here in the Blog. That’s an acronym for Knicks Re-Invent Basketball, and was based on their amazing ability this year to make treys while avoiding giveaways. I won’t rehash all that because its old news by now. I bring the theme up again because those two categories are looming very large in New York’s current series with Boston.

*New York is much better than Boston from behind the arc, and already enjoys a 16-10 edge in made treys through the first two games of their series. That’s +18 points out of their +23 overall edge on the scoreboard.

*As Steve Kerr was pointing out tonight on the TNT broadcast, Boston has little chance to cash in cheap points off New York turnovers because the Knicks don’t make many. If Boston’s going to lose three’s most every game, they obviously have to make up for that with one’s and two’s if they have any hope of competing in Read more

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wise Guy Report: Miami Heat fit the profile of a champion

04.15.2013     07:50 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Every year, prior to the end of the regular season, I write a column I call ‘Who Has What it Takes to Win the Big Dance”.  After Louisville’s NCAA Tournament Championship this year, we’ve seen future champions fit a specific statistical profile in 15 of the last 16 tournaments.  As a result of that specific statistical profile, I can simply go through all the contending teams, one by one, to see which squad has the best chance (or one of the best chances) to cut down the nets following six consecutive victories over a three week span.

I do not go through a specific statistical profile that predicts NBA playoff success the same way I do for college.  And while the NCAA Tournament is a relative sprint, the NBA Playoffs are an extended, two month long marathon; a war of attrition as much as anything else.  A race towards a four series, 16 victory championship requires talent and health.

We don’t see longshots winning NBA titles very often.  The biggest surprise teams to win a title in the last two decades – the 2004 Pistons and the 2011 Mavericks – were both deep, veteran, defensive minded Read more

NBA Gambling News: Miami's James, Wade, and Bosh expected to play vs. Boston

Boston at Miami -12.5 O/U 196

Oddsmakers and bettors have had a heck of a time trying to get a read on the Miami Heat and their motivation if any the last two weeks of the regular season. The Big Three have been in and out of the lineup of late but according to reports they are all expected to play in tonight's matchup against Boston – how much they play should remain a concern for those interested in laying the big price. It’s reasonable to think that their playing time will be abbreviated especially if the Heat creates a comfortable lead in the second half. The Celtics won't have the services of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. It looks like Boston is locked into the No. 7 seed in the Eastern Conference.

NBA Gambling Notes: Miami Heat continue to win and cover despite rest, injuries

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Milwaukee at Miami -6 O/U 196.5

Looks like Miami's LeBron James will play tonight vs. Milwaukee but Dwyane Wade (ankle) and Chris Bosh (knee) will sit. Since having their historic winning streak snapped in Chicago the Heat are 4-1 SU/ATS. They opened -7 vs. the Bucks but were bet down to -6.

"I don't know how their coaches or players are preparing for the last [few] games," James said. "For us, these last six games, we want to try to use them to ... most of all get healthy. That's our No. 1 thing. If we're healthy going into the playoffs, we match up with anybody. So we're not worried about them. We're worried about our health, more than anything, going into the postseason."

UPDATE

New York at Miami -2 O/U

Looks like Miami will rest LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Mario Chalmers tonight against the New York Knicks. The trio missed Sunday's game at San Antonio – the Heat won 88-86. On yesterday's overnight lines the Heat opened -8 and were bet down to -7 before sportsbooks took the game off the board. They reopened Miami -1.5, it was bet down to pick 'em, and then up to as high as -2.5 before settling in at -1.5/-2.

NBA Betting Recap: Heat rest James and Wade, take down Spurs

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Last night in the NBA, the Miami Heat essentially pulled a San Antonio Spurs and decided to rest LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Mario Chalmers. The announcement came about two hours prior to tip-off. The Spurs opened as a -1.5 point favorite and were bet up to -3 before the books took the game off the board. They reopened in Spurs -9 and it was bet up to -10 before closing -9. Despite all that, the Heat won 88-86. Sportsmemo's Erin Rynning noted that Joey Crawford was an official. Of course Crawford and the Spurs go way back. Line history courtesy of CRIS.
