Indiana at Miami -7 O/U 182.5

According to Sports Options, Indiana's Paul George has been upgraded to probable for Saturday's Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals in Miami. George suffered a concussion in Game 2 and has yet to officially be cleared to play but indications are the he will practice today.

"Most all if not all head injuries and concussions resolve back to normal, but the important thing is we treat them appropriately and that process is actually going on right now with Paul George," Kersey said. "The injury has been addressed, it is being assessed and treated and following protocols which are in place."

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: Previewing the Western and Eastern Conference Finals

Only four teams remain standing in the NBA Playoffs; one of whom will bring home the title less than a month from now.  For all the drama of the first two rounds, it’s an all-chalk Final Four, with the top two seeds from each conference battling for supremacy.

With both Conference Finals getting underway on Sunday and Monday, I’ll take a closer look at the two series.  The goal, as always, is to unearth hidden nuggets pointing towards future pointspread success while assessing pace and totals as well.

Predicting series success generally correlates strongly with predicting pointspread success when it comes to the NBA Playoffs.  But not as much as last year!  In 2013, the Final Four teams combined to go 31-11 (74%) against the spread in the first two rounds of postseason; each of the four teams cashing at a 67% clip or better.  The ‘surprise’ team of the four, Memphis, went 10-1 ATS through the first two rounds before covering only once while getting swept by San Antonio.

The ATS success of the Final Four teams in 2014 pales in comparison to 2013.  Between them, the NBA’s Final Four have turned a Read more

NBA Gambling Consensus: Betting public likes both of Monday's games OVER the total

05.12.2014     01:23 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Three of this past weekend's four NBA Playoff games went OVER the total upping the postseason mark to a ridiculous 40-23-1 O/U. But the betting markets – those responsible for moving the lines – bet both of Monday's games UNDER total total. Miami-Brooklyn opened 189.5 (CRIS) and was bet down to as low as 187. San Antonio-Portland opened 212 with most sportsbooks now offering 210 or 210.5. As for the betting public, they of course like the two favorites and the over with better than 60% of action. Below are the betting consensus numbers for tonight...

Miami -2 (72%) at Brooklyn
San Antonio -4.5 (60%) at Portland

Miami at Brooklyn OVER 187.5 (65%)
San Antonio at Portland OVER 210.5 (64%)

NBA Handicapping: Nets seek better defense vs. Heat in Game 2

05.08.2014     10:42 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Brooklyn at Miami -7.5 O/U 192

The Brooklyn Nets are wisely addressing their porous Game 1 defense, particularly in the paint where the Miami Heat hung 52 points.

"We know a lot of the things we did wrong defensively," Deron Williams said before practice at AmericanAirlines Arena Wednesday. "We made a lot of mistakes in our defensive game plan, we gave up 52 points in the paint, so of course that's going to be the focus going forward, keeping them out of the lane and keeping them from getting so many layups, so many easy baskets. Because when they do that, they get a lot of confidence, and then they start hitting shots from everywhere."

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wise Guy Report: Recapping NBA Playoff Game 1's

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
There were eight opening round NBA Playoff Series that started this past weekend.  The lower seeded road teams – all underdogs in Game 1 – went 6-2 ATS, including five outright upset winners.  There were four games that flew Over the total, three that stayed Under and one (Miami-Charlotte) that finished right in between the opening and closing total.

This is just the start of a two month NBA Playoff marathon, and those Game 1’s may not be indicative of how these opening round series are likely to play out.  Here are some key note and quotes for each series following those Game 1’s.

Miami looked sluggish and lethargic for extended stretches of their opener against Charlotte, but took over the game with an 18-4 run in the fourth quarter when LeBron James was sitting on the bench.  Head coach Erik Spoelstra:  “We were flat to start. I think our guys were just anxious."  LeBron: “That group that was in once I took that break at the 10-minute mark in the fourth quarter, they just bumped the lead. Obviously, to have three Hall of Famers in the game when I'm out of the game, CB, D-Wade and Ray Read more

NBA Betting News: Miami Heat focused on health rather than top seed

04.11.2014     07:15 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
While the Indiana Pacers are all-in for tonight's critical game at Miami according to LeBron James, the team's focus remains on staying healthy. James however later noted that tonight's contest will have a Game 7-like feel. Make up your mind, Bron.

"It's not about controlling our destiny with the No. 1 seed," James insists. "We want to get healthy. That's all we care about, man, going into the postseason healthy. We've got more problems as far as health issues than the No. 1 seed. And if it happens, it happens. We're going to be excited to get the postseason started. But that's the least of our worries right now."

"It doesn't matter how a team is struggling; once they play us we

NBA Handicapping: Indiana Pacers will play starters vs. Miami Heat

04.11.2014     06:52 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Rested and ready the Indiana Pacers head to Miami looking to secure the top seed in the Eastern Conference. According to reports, Indiana will play all of its starters. The Pacers have a half game lead over the Heat with three games remaining. Miami has four games left. No line as of this morning as oddsmakers wait to confirm who will play for both sides.

"There was a lot of energy at practice, they definitely had their legs," Vogel said. "The decision [to rest the starters] was every bit as much about the bench guys as the starters. Hopefully that took care of the bench, and the fresher legs will help the starters."

NBA Handicapping: Indiana Pacers somehow back in lead of Eastern Conference

04.10.2014     08:08 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Just when looked like Indiana was waving the white flag (i.e. sitting starters) in its quest for the Eastern Conference's top seed, they went ahead and beat Milwaukee 104-102 and regained the East lead by a half game over the Miami Heat who have lost three of four. The two teams meet in South Beach on Friday.

We have to point out that while the results (-1 closing number) say the Pacers covered vs. the Bucks, keep in mind that game opened -3.5, went to -5, dropped to -2 and only an hour before game time did the line drop to -1.5/-1. In their last 23 games, the Pacers really have only one legitimate pointspread cover (91-79 as 6.5-point favorites vs. Chicago). The other two were last night’s miraculous victory and an OT win as 5-point chalk vs. Detroit.

“We accomplished the purpose,” said George, who spent the game in warm-ups after getting in some conditioning and shooting. “We felt very comfortable with the group we had, that they were going to go out there and get us a win. It wasn’t like we were sacrificing the game.

NBA Handicapping: All of sudden, Pacers not concerned about top seed

04.03.2014     07:48 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
For today's What a Crock of You-Know-What news we have the Indiana Pacers claiming the top seed in the Eastern Conference is no longer a top priority. This after last night's slump-busting, non-covering win over Detroit. The Miami Heat are ahead of the Pacers via win percentage and have eight games remaining whereas Indiana has only six. The two teams meet in Miami next Friday.

“We can’t focus on it,” West said of the top spot. “We worked ourselves [to the point where] we’ve gotten out of sorts trying to focus on that and we haven’t played good enough basketball over the last month or so to claim it. So now it’s up for grabs and we’re behind the eight-ball in terms of that. We just have to play ball, man. Either way we’re going to have to win some tough playoff series. We’ll have to win some games on the road whether it’s early in the series or late. That’s just what it is.”
