NBA Gambling: Indiana Pacers play host to Miami Heat

Miami at Indiana

The Indiana Pacers have seen their lead in the Eastern Conference playoff standings dwindle to just two games over the Miami Heat. They've lost seven of their last 12 (2-10 ATS) though eight of those 12 contests were on the highway.

"We look like sh—," West told The Star. "We're just not performing. We're just not playing well. We're not shooting the ball well. We're not sharing it and when we're not sharing it, we become stagnant."

"We just haven't been having fun," Pacers All-Star Paul George said after Tuesday's practice. "Somewhere along the line, we just forgot how much fun this game is and forgot how much fun we made it. More than that, how much fun we made this arena."

NBA Gambling: Miami Heat has high volume of games remaining

Interesting scheduling note for the Miami Heat moving forward. They play the most games of any team in the league the remainder of the regular season including six consecutive four-game weeks. We would imagine at some point that LeBron James and Dwyane Wade will see lesser minutes and even take a few games off.

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wise Guy Report: NBA Moneyburners!

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Last week, I took an in-depth look at five of the biggest moneymakers in the NBA through the first half of the season.  This week I’m going to focus on the teams at the other end of the spectrum – bottom feeders and disappointments.  I’ll break down the three biggest money-losers of the season thusfar.  And I’ll take a look at a ‘morpher’; a team playing significantly worse than current market projections.

I’ll start with the three teams that can be collectively called ‘the hopeless trio’.  It’s hard to make money betting on the very worst teams in any sport, and the NBA is certainly no exception.  And there’s no question who the very worst team in the NBA is this year, because they have both the worst SU record in the league (7-29) and the worst pointspread mark (12-24 ATS).  That team?  The Milwaukee Bucks!

Bucks head coach Larry Drew has never coached a bottom feeder before.  He walked into a good situation in Atlanta with the Hawks, who made the playoffs all three years that he was coaching the team.  Here in Milwaukee, the playoffs Read more

NBA Handicapper Free Play: Phoenix Suns at Miami Heat

Phoenix +12 at Miami O/U 201
Recommendation: Phoenix

Phoenix has been the single best pointspread team in the NBA this year; suffering only two ATS losses in their first 13 games. The Suns were widely expected to tank this season; priced as a true bottom feeder. But that simply hasn’t been the case – they’re tied for the #8 seed in the West with Memphis right now.

Suns forward Channing Frye summed it up: “We're just having fun out there….When you start losing everything you start to get real tight, so we can't be like that. We just have to get out there and have fun."

The Suns opened this road trip with a pair of SU wins on the highway.  They’ve also won SU at New Orleans, and lost at Portland by a single point; a team I have no hesitation supporting in this ‘road dog’ role.  Phoenix is happy, confident and still undervalued going into Miami tonight.

When the Heat bring their a-game, they can beat a team like Phoenix by margin.  But Miami isn’t playing to win games against second tier foes in November – they’re playing for a fourth Read more

NBA Betting News: LeBron not pleased with Heat's defense

Milwaukee at Miami -14.5 O/U 197.5

The Miami Heat have had no trouble putting the ball in the basket with 100 points or more is all seven games this season. But LeBron James isn't pleased with the team's defense, going so far as to say it has been "shit" thus far. Heading into tonight's game against Milwaukee, the Heat rank 25th in the NBA in defensive efficiency. Note that the total was bet down from 199.5 to its current number of 197.5.

NBA Gambling News: LeBron and the Heat +250 to win next year's title

06.21.2013     11:59 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Everyone's favorite stat nerd Nate Silver says LeBron James has two more NBA Championships left in him. And not even 24 hour removed from their second straight title, the Miami Heat are even money to win the Eastern Conference and +250 to three-peat according to The Greek.

What seems safe to say is that you wouldn’t want to bet on James at even money. There are just too many things that can go wrong with a player’s career as he ages: injury or illness, early retirement, bad teammates or bad luck.

Even a team as strong as this year’s Heat began the season with only about a 30 percent chance of winning the title, according to the Las Vegas odds. That percentage happens to roughly match the historical likelihood of an N.B.A. team repeating as champion, which is 33 percent.

NBA Finals Handicapping: History hasn't been kind to Game 7 road teams

San Antonio at Miami -6 O/U 189.5

A couple of database numbers to considering for Thursday's NBA Finals Game 7 between the San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat. Home teams are 23-8 SU and 20-11 ATS in postseason Game 7's. Totals in those games were 11-20 O/U. Since 2004, there have been two Game 7's in the finals: San Antonio won and covered vs. Detroit in 2004 and the LA Lakers won but failed to cover vs. Boston in 2009. Both games went under the total. The last road team to win a Game 7 in the NBA Finals straight up was the Washington Bullets in 1978.

NBA Finals Betting Recap: Spurs Can't Hold 5-Point Lead with Under 25 Seconds Left

It was there for the taking. San Antonio had a 13-point lead late in the third quarter…a 10-point lead to start the fourth quarter…and, after rallying from a late collapse, a 5-point lead with just under 25 seconds left. There was no trophy ceremony. Miami forced overtime, then won the extra period to force a Game Seven finale Thursday Night.

If you watched, you’re as spent as I am…and there’s really not much more to add to what everyone has been saying in the twitterverse. Let’s see what the final numbers looked like…

Miami 103, San Antonio 100 (in overtime)

2-Point Percentage: San Antonio 48%, Miami 44%

3-Point Shooting: San Antonio 5/18, Miami 11/19

Free Throws: San Antonio 21/28, Miami 16/21

1’s and 2’s: San Antonio 85, Miami 70

Rebounds: San Antonio 45, Miami 42

Turnovers: San Antonio 13, Miami 15

Tim Duncan had a HUGE first three Read more
