NBA Playoff Betting Recap: Pacers and Spurs win and cover, take 2-0 lead

Treys by the Keg, Tired Legs, and Goose Eggs...

Some very interesting games to talk about as we continue our coverage of the NBA Playoffs.. We’ll pick up with Tuesday’s late finisher, then run through all three of Wednesday’s matchups. I’ll try to find some things that aren’t being dwelled upon much in the mainstream media coverage I’ve been monitoring. See if you can figure out which games match which headline terms! ("bushel" didn’t fit the rhyme scheme)

Golden State 131, Denver 117

2-Point Percentage: Golden State 69%, Denver 57%

3-Point Shooting: Golden State 14/25, Denver 9/26

Free Throws: Golden State 15/20, Denver 28/37

1’s and 2’s: Golden State 89, Denver 90

Rebounds: Golden State 36, Denver 26

Turnovers: Golden State 17, Denver 15

As I’ve mentioned before, this series is being very well covered in the Read more

NBA Playoff Betting Notes: Boston Celtics try to climb 0-2 mountain

New York at Boston -3 O/U 183.5

Being down 2-0 in a playoff series isn't a death sentence but the odds certainly aren't stacked in your favor. Only 15 teams have ever rallied back after losing the first two games. One of those teams was the Dallas Mavericks who in 2005 dropped back-to-back contests at home to the Rockets but won rallied back to win the series in seven games.

“I guess they say the series hasn’t started -- and I’ve heard this corny line a million times -- until the road team wins,” said Rivers. “I am positive the series has started because we are down 2-0.”

“We lost those first two at home and went in their building and beat them pretty good twice and ended up winning in seven Read more

NBA Handicapping: Brooklyn's Johnson dealing with foot injury

Brooklyn at Chicago -3.5 O/U 181

Expected to play but far from 100 percent, Brooklyn's Joe Johnson is dealing with a painful bout of plantar fasciitis. In Games 1 and 2, Johnson combined for 13-of-31 from the floor, 33 points, eight assists, and eight rebounds.

"I think it was a little bit of plantar in February when it first started, but now it's deep into the plantar fasciitis," Johnson said. "It'll be something I just have to fight through."

NBA Handicapping: Knicks, Heat, and Clippers take 2-0 series leads

You regulars are familiar with the KRIB Index that we invented here in the Blog. That’s an acronym for Knicks Re-Invent Basketball, and was based on their amazing ability this year to make treys while avoiding giveaways. I won’t rehash all that because its old news by now. I bring the theme up again because those two categories are looming very large in New York’s current series with Boston.

*New York is much better than Boston from behind the arc, and already enjoys a 16-10 edge in made treys through the first two games of their series. That’s +18 points out of their +23 overall edge on the scoreboard.

*As Steve Kerr was pointing out tonight on the TNT broadcast, Boston has little chance to cash in cheap points off New York turnovers because the Knicks don’t make many. If Boston’s going to lose three’s most every game, they obviously have to make up for that with one’s and two’s if they have any hope of competing in Read more

NBA Handicapping: What Game 1 means to the rest of the series

Some interesting statistics regarding NBA home teams that post blowouts in Game 1.

The good news, though, is that a set of Game One blowouts doesn’t predict the same outcome in Game Two. The correlation between first-round home-team wins in Game Ones and Game Twos is negative: The more home teams win their openers, the fewer win their second games — though the relationship is very slight.

NBA Handicapping: Chicago Shocks Brooklyn...as Deron Williams Disappears

We have our first road victory of the 2013 NBA Playoffs…and what’s now shaping up as our first interesting series in the East...after Chicago (+5.5) shocked Brooklyn 90-82 Monday night in a game most of you probably watched on TNT.

This was quite a turnaround from Brooklyn’s 106-89 victory Saturday. And, the entirety of that turnaround came on the defensive end for Chicago. Look at how similar these offensive stats were for the Bulls in the first two games…

Bulls' Offense in Games 1 and 2

Scoring: 89 and 90

2-point Shooting: 50% and 52%

3-point Shooting: 25% and 25%

Free Throws: 15 of 22 and 13 of 23

1’s and 2’s: 83 and 81

It can be tempting to for a halo effect to cover everything a team does when they reverse a scoreboard result this dramatically. Be careful giving too much credit to the offense Tuesday. The Bulls still can’t make treys. They’re still not as Read more

NBA Handicapper Free Pick: Memphis Grizzlies at Los Angeles Clippers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Memphis +6 at LA Clippers O/U 180
Recommendation: Memphis

I expect a strong bounce back effort from the Memphis Grizzlies tonight in Game 2 of their Western Conference Quarterfinal series against the Los Angeles Clippers. Memphis was not happy as a team about their 112-91 Game 1 loss. Throughout the regular season the Grizzlies boasted one of the best defenses in the NBA but were torched for 112 points on 55.4% shooting.

Memphis was particularly disappointed with its performance on the glass; outrebounded 47-23. Marc Gasol voiced his displeasure about the Grizzlies effort on the boards in Game 1: “That’s not acceptable. Once we made a stop, they kept running in and getting offensive rebounds and second-chance points. We have to be better than that. The rebounds were the difference.” The 23 rebounds in Game 1 were the lowest the Grizzlies have ever had in a playoff game. Facing an 0-2 series hole, I expect a much better effort in the battle for loose balls Read more

NBA Betting Notes: Clippers manhandle Grizzlies on the glass

04.22.2013     07:44 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Memphis at LA Clippers -5.5 O/U 181

During the regular season, Memphis ranked second in the NBA in rebounding margin at +3.6 but were outdone to the tune of 47-23 in Saturday's 112-91 Game 1 loss to the Clippers. Of LA's 47 boards, 14 came on the offensive glass which resulted in 25 second chance points. Memphis' leading rebounder, Ed Davis (6), played only 13 minutes. Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph combined for only six rebounds.

"What's more surprising is our two big guys had six rebounds between them and no offensive rebounds," Hollins said.
