NBA Gambling Notes: Miami Heat continue to win and cover despite rest, injuries

04.09.2013     01:03 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Milwaukee at Miami -6 O/U 196.5

Looks like Miami's LeBron James will play tonight vs. Milwaukee but Dwyane Wade (ankle) and Chris Bosh (knee) will sit. Since having their historic winning streak snapped in Chicago the Heat are 4-1 SU/ATS. They opened -7 vs. the Bucks but were bet down to -6.

"I don't know how their coaches or players are preparing for the last [few] games," James said. "For us, these last six games, we want to try to use them to ... most of all get healthy. That's our No. 1 thing. If we're healthy going into the playoffs, we match up with anybody. So we're not worried about them. We're worried about our health, more than anything, going into the postseason."

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: Betting on or against NBA bottom feeders

04.08.2013     07:26 AM     Teddy Covers     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Teddy Covers

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
I’ve been writing about college basketball fairly consistently since the Super Bowl.  Now that the calendar has shifted to April, it’s time to shift focus and start writing about the NBA.  With less than ten days remaining in the regular season, most of the prevailing focus is on playoff teams.  That’s why I’m writing this week’s column about the bottom feeders that have already been eliminated from playoff contention.

Can we make money betting on or against these squads down the stretch?  Read on to find out my thoughts on a handful of lottery bound teams before I shift my focus towards playoff squads next week and beyond!  Teams are listed in alphabetical order.

In the 2012 season, the Charlotte Bobcats set a record for NBA futility, finishing the season 7-59 SU.  Their pointspread futility made headlines here in Las Vegas as well, as the Bobcats finished as the single biggest money loser in the league by a wide margin, a woeful 23-43 ATS.

In 2013, the Bobcats didn’t set any records for futility, but they’ve still got the single worst SU record in the Read more

NBA Handicapper Free Pick: Memphis Grizzlies at Sacramento Kings

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Memphis -5.5 at Sacramento O/U 196.5
Recommendation: Memphis

This matchup has been more than favorable to the Grizzlies who have gone 3-0 straight up and 2-1 against the spread versus Sacramento this season. Not only did Memphis win those contests by 22, 16, and 7 points, their lackluster offense and vice grip defense have been well above average at times. Offensively, the Grizzlies have had outings of 108 and 113 points with shooting percentages of 54.7% and 48.8% while defensively they’ve limited the potent Kings offense to 69 and 81 points in two of the meetings. Sacramento let go of any defensive pride long ago as they’ve allowed 101 points or more in 21 of their last 26 games and now internal problems have again overflowed. Kings head coach Keith Smart chose Friday night to send a disciplinary message to starting center and leading scorer DeMarcus Cousins by benching him for all but nine minutes vs. Dallas. Smart also kept high scoring guard Marcus Thornton on the Read more

NBA Handicapping: Denver loses Gallinari to knee injury

04.05.2013     01:08 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Denver's Danilo Gallinari will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. Corey Brewer will likely replace Gallinari in the starting lineup. The Nuggets are currently in the third spot of the Western Conference – two games ahead of the Los Angeles Clippers with six games remaining.

NBA Betting News: Portland Trail Blazers look to be packing it in

04.04.2013     01:18 PM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Excellent article on the current state of the Portland Trail Blazers courtesy of blazersegde.com. It looks like they've all but waved the white flag with six straight losses by margins of 18, 10, 27, 10, 18, and 20. And the remaining schedule won't be easy: vs. Houston, vs. Dallas, vs. LA Lakers, vs. Oklahoma City, at Denver, at LA Clippers, vs. Golden State.

NBA Gambling News: San Antonio close to full strength vs. Oklahoma City

04.04.2013     07:14 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Early reports indicate that the San Antonio Spurs will be close to full strength for tonight's game at Oklahoma City. In last night's win over Orlando, the Spurs rested Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard, and DeJuan Blair while Tim Duncan and Stephen Jackson played less than 20 minutes. Manu Ginobili (hamstring) however remains out and could miss the start of the playoffs

NBA Handicapping: Injury list grows for Chicago Bulls

04.04.2013     07:05 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The Chicago Bulls got somewhat good news when it was revealed that Taj Gibson did not tear his MCL. However, Gibson will be out for an unspecified amount of time; one of many Bulls currently on the shelf with injuries. Joakim Noah (plantar fasciitis) was downgraded to doubtful for tonight's game at Brooklyn.

"It's definitely another big blow," Bulls guard Kirk Hinrich said of Gibson's injury. "I don't know what else to say but we got to hang together, find some healthy bodies, and the guys that are out there are going to have to step up even more. We've been short-handed all year. It's nothing new to us, but we are trying to nurse him back to 100 percent. He wasn't 100 percent to begin with. We're going to have to find a way."
