NBA Gambling: Golden State heavy favorites to win 2017 title following acquisition of Durant

07.05.2016     08:21 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Kevin Durant is headed to Golden State which means you'll be seeing a lot of minuses when sifting through the Warriors' future odds. As of Tuesday morning, the Westgate has Golden State -150 and the field +130 to win the 2017 NBA Championship. Their season over/under wins is 67.5. One bettor reportedly got down a $20K wager on Golden State to win the title at +150 -- prior to Durant's decision. For more future odds on Golden State check out Westgate oddsmaker Jeff Sherman's Twitter timeline.

NBA Finals Handicapping: Cleveland Cavaliers likely to go off as Game 3 favorites

06.08.2016     09:42 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The line for tonight's NBA Finals Game 3 continues to bounce back and forth. Looking at CRIS's line history, the Cleveland Cavaliers opened -1 and were immediately bet up to -1.5. But then a flood of money came in on the Golden State Warriors as they became -1 chalk at most offshore sportsbooks. Earlier this morning, the markets were back on the Cavs who are now -1.5 at CRIS. Still some lingering opinion with a few shops settling in at a pick 'em. After Games 1 and 2 went under by a combined 40 points, oddsmakers dropped the total to 206 and it was bet under to 205.

NBA Finals Handicapping: Cleveland Cavaliers take early money

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Early money on both the series and Thursday's Game 1 of the NBA Finals has come in on the Cleveland Cavaliers. Golden State opened as a -6 home favorite with most offshore sportsbooks now -5.5. CRIS opened the Warriors as -235 series favorites. That was bet down to -210. The two teams met twice during the regular season. On Christmas, the Warriors won 89-83 in Oakland but failed to cover as -7 favorites. In the second meeting, Golden State rolled to a 132-98 victory in Cleveland.

NBA Handicapping: Cleveland Cavaliers now favored to win title

A lot of interesting scenario bets for the NBA title currently available at 5Dimes. Cleveland is one win away from reaching the finals and a +122 favorite (-142 field) to win the championship. Oklahoma City leads Golden State 3-1 and is +163 to win the title. The Warriors are +340. One interesting wager is the Oklahoma City/Golden State combo to win the title for -140. If you feel confident that the Thunder will advance, you can get Oklahoma City over Cleveland for +170 and Cleveland over Oklahoma City for +167 which would obviously ensure a profit.

Teddy Covers' Las Vegas Wiseguy Report: Bettors must be willing to change opinions on the fly

Successful sportsbettors are not politicians.   Politicians take heat every time they change their opinion – flip-floppers!  A politician who is pro-choice on abortion, for example, will take enormous criticism from both sides, and will probably lose his or her next election if he or she switches to a pro-life stance.

Sports bettors, like politicians, are inevitably going to have some wrong opinions – about teams, about players, about coaches.  Bill Belichick was not a great coach with the Cleveland Browns, and was not highly regarded after suffering a losing campaign in his first year.  Greg Popovich certainly wasn’t a high profile, top notch hire when the Spurs decided he should be their head coach.  The Carolina Panthers weren’t taken seriously by most NFL analysts last year until they reached the Super Bowl.  Steph Curry wasn’t a superstar...until he was.
Throughout the world of sports and sportsbetting, everybody – E-V-E-R-Y-B-O-D-Y! – is going to have some wrong opinions.  But the differences in how bettors deal with those wrong opinions is fairly dramatic; often the Read more

NBA Handicapper Free Betting Pick: Oklahoma City Thunder at Golden State Warriors

Oklahoma City at Golden State -7.5 O/U 223.5
Recommendation: Over

Tonight’s Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals will be the fourth meeting this season between these teams with Golden State going 3-0 straight up, 2-0-1 against the spread and the “under” cashing in two of the three. However, if tonight’s current total of 223.5 had been the number in all three regular season games, the “over” would’ve been 3-0. Regular season games totaled 224, 239 (only 206 before OT) and 227. The shaving of 6.5 points minimum off the regular season closing totals could be enough room to sneak in here with an “over." Neither team in this series is going to stray from what they do best which is play open floor basketball. For the Thunder, the offensive production that resulted from ball sharing in the latter games of the San Antonio series makes them even more dangerous scoring wise right now. Russell Westbrook who averaged 26.3 ppg against the Warriors this season could even boost that number since he’s certain to challenge counterpart Steph Curry and his less than 100% ankle. The matchup for Kevin Durant Read more

NBA Betting: Playoff series receive influx of intrigue following injuries to Curry and Paul

04.26.2016     09:02 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
What was originally on pace to be a snoozer first round has all of a sudden gotten really interesting. Golden State's Steph Curry (knee) is out for two weeks which would have made their second round matchup vs. the Los Angeles Clippers far more intriguing. Instead, the Warriors caught a break after Chris Paul broke his hand and will likely miss the rest of the postseason. And with the series tied 2-2, it's conceivable the Warriors could draw Portland. The Clippers are 3-5 SU, 3-4-1 ATS, and 7-1 O/U without Paul this season. Meanwhile, after sweeping Memphis is one of the easiest series in history, San Antonio has quietly moved to the slight favorite over Golden State to win the NBA Championship.

NBA Playoff Gambing Alert: Curry (knee) doubtful for Game 5

04.25.2016     07:42 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
It's almost certain that Golden State's Steph Curry (knee) won't play in Wednesday's Game 5. The Warriors opened -9 with a total of 213.5 Curry is slated for an MRI later today. Golden State has outscored Houston +33 without Curry on the floor.

"His conditioning was better than I expected," Golden State coach Steve Kerr said. "And then he slips on the wet spot, unfortunately, and back to square one. We'll see what happens with the MRI tomorrow."
