Take a look at Pinnacle's in-game pointspread during San Antonio's 119-68 blowout over Philadelphia. Not only did the Spurs cover every line that was posted but did so without the services of Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard. The 76ers travel to Brooklyn on Thursday.

NBA Handicapper Free Play: Portland Trail Blazers at Milwaukee Bucks

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Portland pk at Milwaukee O/U 198.5
Recommendation: Portland

Jason Kidd’s recent determined effort to get better defensive efforts out of his Milwaukee Bucks squad is paying dividends. Over their last five games, Milwaukee has held opponents to 95 points or less four times and to an overall average of 89.8 points per game. In Saturday night’s game versus New York, the Knicks shot 42.1% from the field which is the highest allowed by Milwaukee during the five-game span. The Bucks were on a three game under the total streak with game results averaging 167 ppg but their last couple have hit 197 and gone over. Bookmakers adjustments obviously had something to do with that but a freakish 71-point fourth quarter Friday night against the Pistons followed by near 50% FG shooting by Milwaukee on Saturday certainly helped. Tonight’s total sits at 198-198.5 which considering Portland’s style seems pretty tight without a lot of margin for error. Where there is some wiggle room however is in line where the current price is a pick ‘em.

Fundamentals should come into play in this contest and figure they’ll help the Trail Read more

NBA Handicapping: Philadelphia 76ers in back-to-back spot following rare win

12.02.2015     10:03 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
This is a question most NBA bettors are probably asking themselves today: How will the Philadelphia 76ers respond following a win? Considering they haven't tasted victory since late March of last season, it's a fair inquiry. Out of curiosity we looked back over the last two-plus seasons to see exactly how Philly fared off a victory. From a straight up perspective, they're 10-26. Against the spread, a semi-impressive 17-19. Philly is  +8.5 underdog at New York this evening.

"They truly stayed together," said Sixers coach Brett Brown, who improved his career coaching record (all in Philly) to 38-145. "I'm pleased for the city. We didn't want this streak continuing. I'm pleased for our fans. They deserve it. Obviously, this is a relief on many levels, but we're gonna get greedy. We want a little bit more, and that's how we'll approach [Wednesday] night [in New York against the Knicks]."

NBA Handicapper Free Play: Denver Nuggets at Milwaukee Bucks

Denver at Milwaukee -4 O/U 200
Recommendation: Milwaukee

Neither team playing well right now as they each sit at 6-11 and in last place of their respective divisions. Denver has lost six straight and have had numerous injuries to deal with thus far especially to their big men. The Bucks have had some early season injuries as well but currently head coach Jason Kidd is trying to correct their leaky defense. In that regard, Kidd went to a different starting lineup yesterday in Charlotte and the switches did help as Milwaukee allowed just 87 points in the five-point loss. Beyond just replacing starting PG Michael Carter-Williams and PF Jabari Parker in the lineup, the larger picture is the message Kidd is sending to his team about the need to defend better. Off of a season where defense became the Bucks calling card, it has likely been more lack of effort rather than lock down ability and have to believe this group will build off Sunday’s result and step it up on that end. Kidd is still pondering what his best starting lineup will be but his message appears to have been received by the team.

NBA Handicapping: Chicago's Butler asks team for better effort

11.24.2015     09:55 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Chicago's Jimmy Butler recently called out his team for not playing hard on a nightly basis. The Bulls (8-4 SU, 4-8 ATS) have been an interesting study with Fred Hoiberg taking over for Tom Thibodeau. The Bulls are clearly playing faster (99.9 pace, 9th) but have declined offensively (98.9 efficiency, 23rd) compared to last year's rate (104.7) under Thibs. They have played better defensively this season, but the numbers are somewhat skewed as offensive efficiency league-wide is way down compared to 2014-15 season-long numbers. The Bulls play at Portland tonight. Derrick Rose (ankle) was upgraded to probable.

"I don't think we bring that fight every single night," Butler told reporters after Monday's practice. "I think we're starting to get back to that, but early on we weren't the hardest-playing team every night. We always need to and have to be the hardest-playing team."

SportsMemo.com blog entry.
The Houston Rockets have been trolling bettors hard the first three weeks of the season. They opened 0-3 SU and ATS, failing to top 93 points in the process. Followed that up with four straight wins (3-1 ATS) on the strength of 113.5 ppg. And then proceeded to drop four straight (0-4), including three at home, against Boston, Dallas, Denver, and Brooklyn - not exactly a who's who of power rating elite. Those four losses came by an average of 11.3 ppg despite the Rockets laying -4.5, -7.5, -6.5, and -11.5. So now of course it's time to hold a players-only meeting. Houston has tonight off before playing host to Portland on Wednesday.

"What happens in the room, stays in the room," center Dwight Howard said following practice. "It was good for us to sit down and talk but it's a long season and you can't get caught up in losing a couple of games and getting upset and so frustrated and feel like it's the end of the world. It is embarrassing. We hate to lose but at the same time we have a long season

NBA Handicapping: Thunder still adjusting to Donovan

11.09.2015     08:26 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
It's been a sluggish start to the season for the Oklahoma City Thunder who last night snapped a three-game losing streak to improve to 4-3 (3-4 ATS). Kevin Durant talked about the team's struggles in adjusting to first-year head coach Billy Donovan's new defensive system. The Thunder obviously play at a fast clip but they've still allowed 103 or more points in every game but one thus far. Efficiency-wise, the Thunder rank 19th in the league at 101.7. That's actually an improvement from last year's group that allowed 103.1. That may however have to do with the NBA’s early season offensive struggles. Eighteen teams are currently below 100.0 in offensive efficiency whereas only five squads finished below that mark all of last season.

“It’s a different defense for us,” Kevin Durant said. “The schemes are great, it’s perfect for us. We just have to continue to figure out what we want to give up and what we want to take away and just keep working at it.”
