NBA Gambling Trends: Historical numbers point towards Detroit Pistons

02.19.2014     07:44 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Detroit at Charlotte -2.5 O/U 201

Found this interesting and profitable NBA betting profile for tonight's Detroit-Charlotte game. The two teams hooked up last night in Detroit, with the Bobcats prevailing, 108-96. In these unique same opponent, back-to-back situations, when the home teams loses the first game they are an impressive 31-13 ATS in the road in the rematch. Note that the average line of the profile was +6.5. The trend suggests that teams who pick up the road win tend to suffer a letdown the following night.

NBA Handicapping: San Antonio's injuries keeping bettors on their toes

San Antonio at LA Clippers -6 O/U 210

Old age and injuries catching up to the San Antonio Spurs? Probably not wise to count those dudes out but injuries are becoming a real problem. Gregg Popovich said Tony Parker will be out "for the foreseeable future" including tonight's showdown against the Clippers. Manu Ginobili however was upgraded to probable while Kawhi Leonard and Tiago Splitter remain doubtful.

"The main thing with Pop, he doesn't want me to play 50 percent, 60 percent," Parker said. "That's the main thing. He wants me to get all of my little stuff healed. So however much time it takes, next time I come back on the court he wants me to be 100 percent.

"Against Charlotte, against Detroit, I was not myself. He just doesn't want me to play like that."

Cleveland -3.5 Philadelphia O/U 209.5

Arguably no team needed the All-Star break more than the Philadelphia 76ers. Over their last eight games, the Sixers allowed 115.4 ppg. According to head coach Brett Brown, team morale is high. Philly's schedule over the next few weeks is rather favorable with five straight at home and eight of their next 10 vs. sub-.500 teams.

"I think they're great," Brown said. "They had a heck of a practice today. They have surprised me in that regard throughout the course of the year. They bring, most times, 'A' effort to our practices. Most times they handle it just like pros should handle it. Their spirits are good, despite our record."

"When you see them like this, you realize just how unrested they were when I left them," Brown said. "When we had lost some games as we did, and you Read more

Charlotte at Detroit -4.5 O/U 204

Over the All-Star break Detroit Pistons interim head coach John Loyer hired a new assistant. Loyer also scrambled to "install some new things" as the team prepares for four games in five nights starting this evening vs. Charlotte.

"I told the guys we need it, there's a lot of things we've got to cover, a lot of things we've got to clean up, a lot of things we've got to put in," Loyer said.  "We kind of looked at both sides of the ball -- ways that we can get better shots offensively, and combinations, and ways we can play better defensively, kind of the whole package."

NBA Handicapping: Denver Nuggets running out of options at point guard

02.12.2014     11:52 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Denver at Minnesota -6.5 O/U 208

Add the Denver Nuggets to the list of teams eager for the All-Star Break. This team has been hammered by injuries and may be down to its fifth-string point guard tonight. Ty Lawson, Andre Miller, Nate Robinson, Danilo Gallinari, and JaVale McGee are all out. And Randy Foye, the team's makeshift floor general, hurt his ankle during shootaround. He's expected to play but the Nuggets may start Evan Fournier.

“Well he started out shootaround and went in for the majority of shootaround to work on his ankle, so it’s up in the air,” Shaw said. “That’s all I can give you at this point. I think he’ll be able to go…”

Utah at LA Lakers -1.5 O/U 202
Recommendation: Over

These two teams have met twice this season with both games going OVER the total.  The two games featured 209 and 208 points, and with both teams at the bottom tier of the standings defense should continue to be an afterthought.  The Jazz have trended UNDER the total of late, with their last five games all landing that way.  They seemed at peace slowing these games down against playoff competition, but I expect their style to reflect more openness tonight.  Meanwhile, the Lakers continue to lose players but have found ways to compete and play largely the same style.  With head coach Mike D’Antoni, the Lakers push the pace and try to outscore the opposition.  The last game the Lakers played with a total lined this low – outside of facing the Chicago Bulls – was their January 3 match-up against the Jazz.  During that stretch, Laker games have trended 13-6 to the OVER.  Look for these Read more

NBA Gambling Update: Philadelphia 76ers crushed again

02.11.2014     06:57 AM     Printer Friendly
UPDATE

It didn't hit -55 but for the second straight game, bettors witnessed some crazy in-game lines involving the Philadelphia 76ers. Last night they were waxed once again by the Golden State Warriors 123-80. The peak in-game price at Pinnacle was Golden State -44.5. And despite allowing 123 in back-to-back games, both went way under the total due to Philly's offensive shortcomings. The 76ers close out their West Coast trip on Wednesday in Utah before the All-Star break. We did check to see if there were and recent in-game lines of this magnitude and found Oklahoma City -48.5 during their 114-69 rout of Charlotte last season.

NBA Betting News: Phoenix Suns continue to play faster

02.11.2014     06:33 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Article on the Phoenix Suns picking up the tempo over the course of the first half of the season. They've managed to increase the pacing of their games in every month. Trend-wise, Phoenix is 28-21-1 O/U on the season, 11-5 O/U its last 16 games, and 3-0 O/U its last three. Tonight's total against Miami is currently 208.5.

“I think we’re running more,” Dragic said. “Even when they score, we get the ball quick out of bounds and we just push the ball. We put a lot more pressure on their defense….usually, let’s say third or fourth quarter, they get really tired. That’s our biggest advantage.”

“We get out of the basket quicker,” Hornacek said. “Defense, obviously. If you’re getting stops you can run more. I think some of these games that we’re really running, we’re even running on made baskets. Some games we don’t’ take it out quick enough.”
