College Basketball Betting Free Play: Arizona Wildcats at Oregon Ducks

Arizona at Oregon +3 O/U 139.5
Recommendation: Oregon

This season ending matchup looks like an interesting one, and has completely different levels of importance to its competitors. For Arizona the result here means very little. At 28-2 the Wildcats are a likely #1 seed in the NCAA tournament and long ago wrapped up the regular season PAC-12 title. There is very little for them to gain or lose today. For Oregon, however, this could be a huge win for the revitalized Ducks. After opening the conference slate with a win over Utah back in January, Oregon dropped 8 of its next 10 games and looked like they were going to miss the Big Dance. However, they have turned it around and won their past six games, putting them at 9-8 in conference play and 21-8 overall. They could very easily be 13-4 in conference play as four losses were by exactly two points, including a 67-65 loss at Arizona on February 6th. A win here would solidify their position in the NCAA tourney and move them in contention for a 6th seed or better depending on how they fare in the PAC-12 Tournament. Three points here could be huge given Oregon's history of close losses, but I wouldn't be Read more

Kansas pk at Oklahoma State O/U 149.5
Recommendation: Kansas

Kansas clinched a share of the Big XII title in its last game at home against Oklahoma and go for the outright title this evening in Stillwater. The Jayhawks should be able to do so against an Oklahoma State team that has won two straight since the return of Marcus Smart, but is still not the team that everyone expected them to be at the beginning of the season. OSU snapped a seven-game losing skid in Smart's return against Texas Tech and followed that win up with a blowout win vs. TCU (combined 5-25 record in league play). The Cowboys are still a flawed team and had lost four straight games before Smart's suspension. They have very little depth and their defense has suffered without Michael Cobbins in the middle. Kansas will take advantage of the Cowboys in the paint and on the glass with Perry Ellis and Joel Embiid. Oklahoma State definitely has one of the strongest home courts in college basketball and should have an enthusiastic crowd but even a spirited effort won't be enough. Kansas has won in its last two visits to Stillwater and has beaten the Cowboys in six of the last seven Read more

Missouri +1 at Alabama O/U 136
Recommendation: Missouri

Missouri comes in to Tuscaloosa on a three-game win streak while the host Crimson Tide has lost six of seven. Alabama is basically down to six players after forward Nick Jacobs took an indefinite leave of absence. Bama dropped its first game without Jacobs to Texas A&M, 63-48, on Wednesday night and played six players 25 minutes or more and two others for a combined four minutes. Only two of the six players are taller than 6-7 and both are freshmen. Bama may have the least amount of talent in the conference with only guard Trevor Releford playing at a high level. The Tide somehow has been installed as a favorite over a 19-7 Missouri team. The Tigers’ win streak has come at home with close wins over Arkansas, Tennessee, and Vandy, but they have some decent road wins this year. Missouri won at Arkansas and Auburn as well as at NC State in non-league play. The Tigers are definitely on the bubble for an NCAA tourney berth, and shouldn’t overlook the struggling Tide in this one. Mizzou had no trouble in the first matchup between these teams, crushing Alabama 68-47 at home a month ago. Read more

Ohio State -4.5 at Illinois O/U 124
Recommendation: Ohio State

Both of these Big Ten schools have had their share of problems this season. Ohio State was ranked in the top 10 before dropping five of six games in conference play. The Buckeyes managed to turns things around some by winning four of five before losing at home to Michigan last time out. Overall, OSU (6-6 Big Ten) does have nice road wins at Wisconsin and Iowa as well as home wins over Illinois and Purdue and are currently 6-6 in conference play.  Ohio State is +0.06 PPP in conference play; one of only five Big Ten teams with a positive efficiency rate. On the other hand, Illinois is just 3-9 in conference play and is -0.09 PPP. They have a home win over Indiana and two wins over Penn State but suffered an eight game losing streak in between wins over the Nittany Lions. They Illini are coming off another loss, 67-58, at Nebraska and have been plagued by an inability to generate offense. Read more

Georgetown at Creighton -11.5 O/U 144.5
Recommendation: Creighton

Georgetown has dropped three straight and four of their last five games, and now heads to the lion’s den to face Creighton on one of the top home courts in college basketball. This will be the Hoyas’ first trip to Omaha, and they come in with a short-handed team. Center Josh Smith and guard Jabril Trawick remain out of the lineup, leaving coach John Thompson with two solid guards and little else. D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera and Markel Starks scored 52 of Georgetown’s 72 points in its home loss to Marquette while everyone else combined to go 6-of-26. Thompson tried to limit their minutes against Marquette, inserting seldom-used guard Stephen Domingo into the game early in the first half and guard John Caprio, a former walk-on, recorded a career-high 22 minutes. Smith-Rivera and Starks still wound up playing 40 minutes each. This could definitely come into play tonight in a Read more

Missouri -2.5 at Auburn O/U 141
Recommendation: Missouri

Missouri got off to an 11-0 start this year but has gone 2-2 in their last four games. Their last two games were maybe their worst efforts of the season, beating Long Beach State and losing to Georgia at home. The Georgia loss occurred as a 14-point favorite, and snapped their 26-game home winning streak. This should serve as a wakeup call for the Tigers, who were good enough to beat UCLA and win at NC State and are certainly good enough to win at Auburn.

Auburn is coming off a tough loss at Ole Miss, who played without leading scorer Marshall Henderson. The Tigers have made some improvements since losing badly to Iowa State and Illinois, especially on the defensive end. They had won four straight games since those two lopsided losses, but the best two wins came against Boston College and Clemson, neither of which possesses the kind of firepower that Missouri does.

Auburn does not have much of a home court edge in their new gym, and they are lacking in the talent department. Two players, KT Harrell and Chris Denson make up the majority of their offense. They combined to take Read more

Drake -4.5 at Bradley
Recommendation: Drake

Bradley comes into this contest as one of the worst money burners in college hoops thus far with a 1-9-1 ATS mark. They have dropped seven straight games SU and ATS as they continue to struggle to put the ball in the basket (36.5% from the field in those seven losses). Head coach Geno Ford went so far as to cancel on court practice yesterday because he was “tired of looking at guys make shots in practice that miss them in games.”

Bradley may have hit rock bottom in their last game, a conference opening 80-46 loss at Northern Iowa. They now face a Drake team that has gotten off to a nice 10-3 start and has covered in 8 of its 11 lined games. Drake lost guard Gary Ricks Jr., (12.3 ppg) to a broken foot on December 7 but has rallied to go 4-1 SU without him. They are coming off their best game of the year; a 94-66 trouncing of Evansville at home. The Bulldogs have been able to make shots, as they hit 40.5% from the three-point line and 45.5% overall. Drake has also shown that it can win on the road with three true road wins and two more on neutral courts. They are 6-1 ATS in games away Read more

NCAA Tournament Handicapping: Florida Gulf Coast meets Florida in Sweet Sixteen

Florida Gulf Coast vs. Florida -13 O/U 133.5

By now everyone is aware of the Cinderella story of the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles who reached the Sweet Sixteen in just their second year of DI basketball. They were very impressive in their first two wins against Georgetown and San Diego State and now have a chance to reach the Elite Eight with a win over Florida.

On paper, it would not appear to be a good matchup for the Eagles as Florida is a solid defensive team that allows just 37.8% from the field and dominates the boards with a +5.3 rebound margin. However, the running and gunning Eagles just faced two teams that had strong defensive pedigrees and destroyed them both.

The interesting thing about FGCU is that they did not hit tons of threes to advance. They really didn’t even take many, which is a common factor in many NCAA tourney upsets. Against Georgetown, FGCU was 6-of-15 from deep and they were 8-of-19 against San Diego State. The vast majority of FGCU’s field goals were on dunks and layups, many of them created by the passing ability and court vision of point guard Brett Comer. He has been the most impressive ball Read more
