College Basketball ATS Notes: Bettors jump on Arkansas and OVER vs. Alabama

02.23.2012     07:34 AM     Printer Friendly
Alabama at Arkansas -2 O/U 135

Arkansas and the OVER appear to be the hot bets for tonight's SEC action. The Razorbacks opened +1 vs. the Crimson Tide but were bet up as high as -2.5. The total has also crept up to 135 after an opener of 132.5. Arkansas was 17-0 at Bud Walton Arena before losing to Florida 98-68 last Saturday. Alabama will still be without the services of Tony Mitchell and JaMychal Green.

NCAA Basketball Betting Trend Update: Murray State -2 first half vs. Tennessee State

02.23.2012     07:07 AM     Andrew Lange     Printer Friendly
Submitted by Andrew Lange

UPDATE

Murray State at Tennessee State

Our Tennessee State 1st half/2nd half trend should be in play tonight as the Tigers play host to Murray State. Since we last spoke, TSU lost two more first halves but stormed back to win outright and cash back-to-back second half tickets. TSU is on a 3-13 ATS 1st half/14-2 ATS 2nd half run. There is really no explanation for these results but clearly Tennessee State is aware of its come-from-behind ways. Tonight, Murray State is downplaying the revenge angle as TSU handed the Racers their lone loss of the season. Both teams have the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds in the OVC Tournament locked up. You should be able to find Murray State -2 for the first half.

NCAA Basketball Gambling: Duke takes early money in revenge spot vs. Florida State

02.23.2012     06:41 AM     Printer Friendly
SportsMemo.com blog entry.
Duke -2 at Florida State O/U 140

The early money has come in on Duke as the Blue Devils travel to Tallahassee in search of revenge over Florida State. The game opened a pick 'em with Duke now a 2-point favorite. Duke and FSU are both 10-2 in ACC play and trail North Carolina (11-2) by a half game.

"They might have a little big of an edge from the standpoint that they've been here in these types of games over and over again," Hamilton said. "Because of the success that they've had over the last 50, 60, 70 years and … the tradition they've been able to build, they've been kind of earned the right to be everybody's homecoming. They generate that kind of enthusiasm and hype regardless where they go."

As because it is Duke, we feel obligated to show this...

WCC Betting Notes: BYU's Rose says Cougs need win vs. Zags to secure at-large

BYU at Gonzaga -6 O/U 146.5

BYU (23-6) saying that it needs a win at Gonzaga to secure an NCAA Tournament berth. The Cougars won the first meeting, 83-73.

“We gotta win the game on Thursday,” BYU coach Dave Rose said flatly this week, when asked if the Cougars have to win the conference tournament to get in the NCAA field.

A couple injuries of note as BYU's Noah Hartsock (knee, 17.3 ppg, 1.7 bpg) is questionable while Matt Carlino (knee, 12.9 ppg, 4.6 apg) was upgraded to probable.

West Virginia at Notre Dame -2.5 O/U 125.5

Article on what's at stake for West Virginia (17-10, 7-7 Big East) as it travels to Notre Dame (19-8, 11-3) tonight. The Mountaineers have lost five of seven (2-5 ATS) but are off a 66-48 road win at Pittsburgh.

“I’m not sure if we’re 9-9 that we’re not OK,” Huggins said. “I’d feel a whole lot better with 10.”

Nebraska at Purdue – The dismissal of guard Kelsey Barlow from the team puts Purdue in a “by committee” situation at the two-guard spot. Previously suspended junior D.J. Byrd will return to the lineup tonight and likely start in Barlow’s absence. Byrd has been better than Barlow almost across the board in offensive categories and with his minutes bumped, should be able to fill that void. The problem will be on the defensive end where, as star F Robbie Hummel said “he was our lock down guy, when the other team had a hot hand we looked to Kelsey to shut him down.” Against Nebraska’s backcourt tonight, having a defensive stopper may not hurt the Boilermakers but with Michigan and Indiana on the horizon, Purdue will need their “committee” to provide an answer.

West Virginia at Notre Dame – The first time around in Morgantown, ND walked out with a slim 55-51 upset as a +6.5 point underdog. The number one reason for the loss from West Virginia’s standpoint was its 2-of-16 12.5% three-point shooting and 0, yes ZERO points scored from their second leading scorer (16.7 ppg) Darrell Read more

College Basketball ATS Free Pick: TCU Horned Frogs at Air Force Falcons

TCU at Air Force -2 O/U 128.5
Recommendation: Air Force

Air Force came out in its first game following the surprising mid-season coaching change and laid a complete egg; blasted at home by Boise State.  But now that they've had some time to settle into a fresh routine, we've seen the Falcons pull off outright upset wins over Wyoming and San Diego State.  Air Force has legitimate under-the-radar pointspread value at this late stage of the season.

Air Force's recent run of success is somewhat tempo based.  The Falcons have been able to slow the game down, playing intense in-your-face defense, masking some of their offensive deficiencies.  A slow pace is TCU's worst nightmare – when the Horned Frogs don't run, they don't win very often.  TCU shot 58% from two-point range in the first meeting between these two teams, and hit six three pointers, compared to only three made three pointers for Air Force.  Despite that stellar Read more

College Basketball Betting: San Diego State limps into Wyoming game

Wyoming at San Diego State -6 O/U 117.5

Despite the names on their jerseys, there is currently little to no difference between San Diego State and Wyoming statistically. Ken Pom has SDSU ranked No. 62 while Wyoming is No. 65. The Aztecs efficiency margin is a modest +0.2 in conference play while the Cowboys are -0.1. Both teams have also lost three straight. SDSU is still in the hunt for a tournament berth with wins over Cal, Long Beach, UNLV and New Mexico but things may change if they fail to close out the season strong.

"I think we have to make sure that we remain determined and believing in ourselves," coach Steve Fisher said. "I think when you lose a game and then lose another game, you start to wonder. And then you lose a third game that Read more

NCAA Basketball Gambling: Wichita in potentially dangerous spot at Illinois State

Wichita State -5.5 at Illinois State O/U 137

Illinois State has made is clear that it doesn't want Wichita State celebrating a Missouri Valley regular season title on its home court. The Redbirds trailed by as much as 19 against the Shocker earlier this season but rallied back and eventually lost by three.

"It gives us a lot of confidence," said ISU sophomore Jon Ekey of the first meeting. "They're playing really well right now, but we know we can play with them. We know what we need to do to be successful and what we can't do."

As for Wichita, they are about as close to being "fat and happy" as a team can get. They beat Creighton by 21 in Omaha and crushed a solid Davidson squad on the road during Read more

NCAA Basketball Betting: Illinois' Weber on borrow time, team appears dead

02.21.2012     12:40 PM     Printer Friendly
Based on this article (and don't forget the crappy play), if a sportsbook were to put odds on whether or not Illinois head coach Bruce Weber will be around in Champaign next season, 500-1 on “yes” would be too generous. Very interested to see what occurs against Ohio State in Columbus tonight.
