I’ve been reading a lot on the explosion of points and offensive production in the NFL this season. Most the media reacts to the information and points out the obvious after it has happened. Week 5 NFL favorites went 8-5 straight-up and 7-6 against the spread. For the season, betting favorites are 36-39-2 ATS. Last season betting favorites went 123-128-7 ATS (48%). A few close wins or losses could have the overall records slightly different based on closing lines and sportsbook. Four division games in Week 5 and division underdogs went 1-3 ATS. Home underdogs went 1-3 SU and 2-2 ATS. For the season, home underdogs are 9-16 SU and 13-11-1 ATS. Scoring continued to soar with a 9-4 O/U week. For the season, totals are now 47-28-2 O/U. Bettor grabbed 500-1 odds on the Kansas City Chiefs to win the Super Bowl

We missed this one from a few weeks ago. One Las Vegas bettor decided to plunk down $400 (500-to-1 odds) on the Kansas City Chiefs to win the Super Bowl. The unidentified gambler made the wager after KC's 0-3 start. Since then, the Chiefs have won two straight though we doubt the boys at Lucky's sportsbook will be sweating this one out come January.

 

None of this dissuaded one brave bettor at a Lucky’s sports book from wagering $400 on Kansas City to win the Super Bowl, according to a company official. The payout? $200,000.

For the math-challenged, that means the gambler received 500-to-1 odds on the future wager. That’s the highest in the league by far — only one other team is more than 250-to-1 — and 10 times what the Chiefs opened at this season.

Dallas' bye week couldn't have come at a better time as the team was able to improve the health of a number of key players. The secondary practiced together for the first time since early training camp and wide receivers Miles Austin and Dez Bryant are near full strength. NFL Handicapping: Injuries to Houston prompt betting interest on Baltimore

Reacting to the injuries of Mario Williams and Andre Johnson, bettors have steamed Baltimore up to as high as an 8-point favorite for Sunday's home tilt against Houston. Williams tore his pectoral muscle and will miss the rest of the season while Johnson is listed as "out" with a hamstring injury.

NFL Handicapping: Practice time now different during bye weeks

Because of the new collective bargaining agreement, practice time during the bye week is much shorter than in years past. Players are still allowed to work out, study film and rehab injuries but according to reports out of Tennessee camp, after Monday's practice, the team is technically off until Oct. 17.


“We’re very limited with what we can do,” Coach Mike Munchak said. “The bye week, when I played, was a long week. You practiced three or four days in pads and got after it pretty good. You didn’t look forward to the bye week. Now, it is different; guys look forward to the bye week.”
